Toward best research practices in AI Psychology
This work addresses methodological challenges for researchers in AI Psychology, but it is incremental as it builds on existing practices without introducing new methods.
The paper tackles the problem of methodological weaknesses in AI Psychology studies by proposing 14 considerations to improve the design and interpretation of research on language models' cognitive abilities, aiming for more robust and generalizable results.
Language models have become an essential part of the burgeoning field of AI Psychology. I discuss 14 methodological considerations that can help design more robust, generalizable studies evaluating the cognitive abilities of language-based AI systems, as well as to accurately interpret the results of these studies.
