Scene as Occupancy

Human driver can easily describe the complex traffic scene by visual system. Such an ability of precise perception is essential for driver's planning. To achieve this, a geometry-aware representation that quantizes the physical 3D scene into structured grid map with semantic labels per cell, termed as 3D Occupancy, would be desirable. Compared to the form of bounding box, a key insight behind occupancy is that it could capture the fine-grained details of critical obstacles in the scene, and thereby facilitate subsequent tasks. Prior or concurrent literature mainly concentrate on a single scene completion task, where we might argue that the potential of this occupancy representation might obsess broader impact. In this paper, we propose OccNet, a multi-view vision-centric pipeline with a cascade and temporal voxel decoder to reconstruct 3D occupancy. At the core of OccNet is a general occupancy embedding to represent 3D physical world. Such a descriptor could be applied towards a wide span of driving tasks, including detection, segmentation and planning. To validate the effectiveness of this new representation and our proposed algorithm, we propose OpenOcc, the first dense high-quality 3D occupancy benchmark built on top of nuScenes. Empirical experiments show that there are evident performance gain across multiple tasks, e.g., motion planning could witness a collision rate reduction by 15%-58%, demonstrating the superiority of our method.

Finding Fallen Objects Via Asynchronous Audio-Visual Integration

The way an object looks and sounds provide complementary reflections of its physical properties. In many settings cues from vision and audition arrive asynchronously but must be integrated, as when we hear an object dropped on the floor and then must find it. In this paper, we introduce a setting in which to study multi-modal object localization in 3D virtual environments. An object is dropped somewhere in a room. An embodied robot agent, equipped with a camera and microphone, must determine what object has been dropped -- and where -- by combining audio and visual signals with knowledge of the underlying physics. To study this problem, we have generated a large-scale dataset -- the Fallen Objects dataset -- that includes 8000 instances of 30 physical object categories in 64 rooms. The dataset uses the ThreeDWorld platform which can simulate physics-based impact sounds and complex physical interactions between objects in a photorealistic setting. As a first step toward addressing this challenge, we develop a set of embodied agent baselines, based on imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and modular planning, and perform an in-depth analysis of the challenge of this new task.

Revisiting Deep Ensemble Uncertainty for Enhanced Medical Anomaly Detection

Medical anomaly detection (AD) is crucial in pathological identification and localization. Current methods typically rely on uncertainty estimation in deep ensembles to detect anomalies, assuming that ensemble learners should agree on normal samples while exhibiting disagreement on unseen anomalies in the output space. However, these methods may suffer from inadequate disagreement on anomalies or diminished agreement on normal samples. To tackle these issues, we propose D2UE, a Diversified Dual-space Uncertainty Estimation framework for medical anomaly detection. To effectively balance agreement and disagreement for anomaly detection, we propose Redundancy-Aware Repulsion (RAR), which uses a similarity kernel that remains invariant to both isotropic scaling and orthogonal transformations, explicitly promoting diversity in learners' feature space. Moreover, to accentuate anomalous regions, we develop Dual-Space Uncertainty (DSU), which utilizes the ensemble's uncertainty in input and output spaces. In input space, we first calculate gradients of reconstruction error with respect to input images. The gradients are then integrated with reconstruction outputs to estimate uncertainty for inputs, enabling effective anomaly discrimination even when output space disagreement is minimal. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation of five medical benchmarks with different backbones. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our method to state-of-the-art methods and the effectiveness of each component in our framework. SMH-Bench: Benchmarking LLM Agents for Environment-Grounded Reasoning and Action in Smart Homes

Smart homes are evolving toward complex state-dependent living environments, requiring Large Language Models (LLMs) to reason over user intent, preferences, and multi-device interactions. However, existing smart-home benchmarks often focus on static instruction-to-API mapping or limited simulations, failing to evaluate whether LLMs can reason, interact, and act reliably in realistic household scenarios. To address these limitations, we introduce SMH-Bench, a comprehensive benchmark for evaluating LLMs in smart-home environments. Built upon HomeEnv, an executable and verifiable smart-home simulator, SMH-Bench contains 1,100 high-quality tasks spanning 7 categories and 22 fine-grained subcategories. It further stratifies tasks across simple, medium and complex homes, ranging from small apartments to dense multi-room environments with 135 devices. Experiments show that although frontier LLMs achieve strong performance on explicit control and query tasks, they still exhibit significant weaknesses in automation task scheduling, ambiguity handling and personalized reasoning, especially as home complexity increases. We hope SMH-Bench will facilitate the development of more reliable, context-aware, and practically deployable smart-home agents.

Revisiting the Roles of "Text" in Text Games

Text games present opportunities for natural language understanding (NLU) methods to tackle reinforcement learning (RL) challenges. However, recent work has questioned the necessity of NLU by showing random text hashes could perform decently. In this paper, we pursue a fine-grained investigation into the roles of text in the face of different RL challenges, and reconcile that semantic and non-semantic language representations could be complementary rather than contrasting. Concretely, we propose a simple scheme to extract relevant contextual information into an approximate state hash as extra input for an RNN-based text agent. Such a lightweight plug-in achieves competitive performance with state-of-the-art text agents using advanced NLU techniques such as knowledge graph and passage retrieval, suggesting non-NLU methods might suffice to tackle the challenge of partial observability. However, if we remove RNN encoders and use approximate or even ground-truth state hash alone, the model performs miserably, which confirms the importance of semantic function approximation to tackle the challenge of combinatorially large observation and action spaces. Our findings and analysis provide new insights for designing better text game task setups and agents.

Bone mineral density estimation from a plain X-ray image by learning decomposition into projections of bone-segmented computed tomography

Osteoporosis is a prevalent bone disease that causes fractures in fragile bones, leading to a decline in daily living activities. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) are highly accurate for diagnosing osteoporosis; however, these modalities require special equipment and scan protocols. To frequently monitor bone health, low-cost, low-dose, and ubiquitously available diagnostic methods are highly anticipated. In this study, we aim to perform bone mineral density (BMD) estimation from a plain X-ray image for opportunistic screening, which is potentially useful for early diagnosis. Existing methods have used multi-stage approaches consisting of extraction of the region of interest and simple regression to estimate BMD, which require a large amount of training data. Therefore, we propose an efficient method that learns decomposition into projections of bone-segmented QCT for BMD estimation under limited datasets. The proposed method achieved high accuracy in BMD estimation, where Pearson correlation coefficients of 0.880 and 0.920 were observed for DXA-measured BMD and QCT-measured BMD estimation tasks, respectively, and the root mean square of the coefficient of variation values were 3.27 to 3.79% for four measurements with different poses. Furthermore, we conducted extensive validation experiments, including multi-pose, uncalibrated-CT, and compression experiments toward actual application in routine clinical practice.

HomeFlow: A Data Flywheel for Smart Home Agent Training with Verifiable Simulation

Large language model agents are moving beyond text-only interaction toward physical-world control, with smart homes as a representative domain. Real domestic interaction requires understanding ambiguous intents, operating in dynamic environments, and performing multi-turn reasoning. However, existing methods struggle to generate high-quality training data for smart home agents. We propose HomeFlow, a verifiable data flywheel for this domain. HomeFlow uses HomeEnv as a unified simulation environment and HomeMaker to procedurally generate diverse home settings. Subsequently, Blueprint compiles open-ended user intents into executable state-based success conditions, while MCTS-Flow synthesizes diverse, verifiable multi-turn trajectories through environment-guided tree search. We then optimize the agents via supervised fine-tuning and step-wise RLVE, which facilitates iterative improvement through authentic physical feedback. We further construct SmartHome-Bench to evaluate the agent across various smart home tasks. On this benchmark, HomeFlow-RL-4B and HomeFlow-RL-8B achieve task success rates of 84.60% and 87.03%. It is worth noting that HomeFlow-RL-8B even surpasses the leading GPT-5.5 by 1.23 percentage points.

BMD-GAN: Bone mineral density estimation using x-ray image decomposition into projections of bone-segmented quantitative computed tomography using hierarchical learning

We propose a method for estimating the bone mineral density (BMD) from a plain x-ray image. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) provide high accuracy in diagnosing osteoporosis; however, these modalities require special equipment and scan protocols. Measuring BMD from an x-ray image provides an opportunistic screening, which is potentially useful for early diagnosis. The previous methods that directly learn the relationship between x-ray images and BMD require a large training dataset to achieve high accuracy because of large intensity variations in the x-ray images. Therefore, we propose an approach using the QCT for training a generative adversarial network (GAN) and decomposing an x-ray image into a projection of bone-segmented QCT. The proposed hierarchical learning improved the robustness and accuracy of quantitatively decomposing a small-area target. The evaluation of 200 patients with osteoarthritis using the proposed method, which we named BMD-GAN, demonstrated a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.888 between the predicted and ground truth DXA-measured BMD. Besides not requiring a large-scale training database, another advantage of our method is its extensibility to other anatomical areas, such as the vertebrae and rib bones.

Learning Moving-Object Tracking with FMCW LiDAR

In this paper, we propose a learning-based moving-object tracking method utilizing our newly developed LiDAR sensor, Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) LiDAR. Compared with most existing commercial LiDAR sensors, our FMCW LiDAR can provide additional Doppler velocity information to each 3D point of the point clouds. Benefiting from this, we can generate instance labels as ground truth in a semi-automatic manner. Given the labels, we propose a contrastive learning framework, which pulls together the features from the same instance in embedding space and pushes apart the features from different instances, to improve the tracking quality. Extensive experiments are conducted on our recorded driving data, and the results show that our method outperforms the baseline methods by a large margin.

Load Forecasting Based Distribution System Network Reconfiguration-A Distributed Data-Driven Approach

In this paper, a short-term load forecasting approach based network reconfiguration is proposed in a parallel manner. Specifically, a support vector regression (SVR) based short-term load forecasting approach is designed to provide an accurate load prediction and benefit the network reconfiguration. Because of the nonconvexity of the three-phase balanced optimal power flow, a second-order cone program (SOCP) based approach is used to relax the optimal power flow problem. Then, the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is used to compute the optimal power flow in distributed manner. Considering the limited number of the switches and the increasing computation capability, the proposed network reconfiguration is solved in a parallel way. The numerical results demonstrate the feasible and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Chance-Constrained Day-Ahead Hourly Scheduling in Distribution System Operation

This paper aims to propose a two-step approach for day-ahead hourly scheduling in a distribution system operation, which contains two operation costs, the operation cost at substation level and feeder level. In the first step, the objective is to minimize the electric power purchase from the day-ahead market with the stochastic optimization. The historical data of day-ahead hourly electric power consumption is used to provide the forecast results with the forecasting error, which is presented by a chance constraint and formulated into a deterministic form by Gaussian mixture model (GMM). In the second step, the objective is to minimize the system loss. Considering the nonconvexity of the three-phase balanced AC optimal power flow problem in distribution systems, the second-order cone program (SOCP) is used to relax the problem. Then, a distributed optimization approach is built based on the alternating direction method of multiplier (ADMM). The results shows that the validity and effectiveness method.

Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Battery Conditioning Hierarchical V2G Coordination for Multi-Stakeholder Benefits

With the growing prevalence of electric vehicles (EVs) and advancements in EV electronics, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) techniques and large-scale scheduling strategies have emerged to promote renewable energy utilization and power grid stability. This study proposes a multi-stakeholder hierarchical V2G coordination based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and the Proof of Stake algorithm. Furthermore, the multi-stakeholders include the power grid, EV aggregators (EVAs), and users, and the proposed strategy can achieve multi-stakeholder benefits. On the grid side, load fluctuations and renewable energy consumption are considered, while on the EVA side, energy constraints and charging costs are considered. The three critical battery conditioning parameters of battery SOX are considered on the user side, including state of charge, state of power, and state of health. Compared with four typical baselines, the multi-stakeholder hierarchical coordination strategy can enhance renewable energy consumption, mitigate load fluctuations, meet the energy demands of EVA, and reduce charging costs and battery degradation under realistic operating conditions.

3DDX: Bone Surface Reconstruction from a Single Standard-Geometry Radiograph via Dual-Face Depth Estimation

Radiography is widely used in orthopedics for its affordability and low radiation exposure. 3D reconstruction from a single radiograph, so-called 2D-3D reconstruction, offers the possibility of various clinical applications, but achieving clinically viable accuracy and computational efficiency is still an unsolved challenge. Unlike other areas in computer vision, X-ray imaging's unique properties, such as ray penetration and fixed geometry, have not been fully exploited. We propose a novel approach that simultaneously learns multiple depth maps (front- and back-surface of multiple bones) derived from the X-ray image to computed tomography registration. The proposed method not only leverages the fixed geometry characteristic of X-ray imaging but also enhances the precision of the reconstruction of the whole surface. Our study involved 600 CT and 2651 X-ray images (4 to 5 posed X-ray images per patient), demonstrating our method's superiority over traditional approaches with a surface reconstruction error reduction from 4.78 mm to 1.96 mm. This significant accuracy improvement and enhanced computational efficiency suggest our approach's potential for clinical application.

World Reasoning Arena

World models (WMs) are intended to serve as internal simulators of the real world that enable agents to understand, anticipate, and act upon complex environments. Existing WM benchmarks remain narrowly focused on next-state prediction and visual fidelity, overlooking the richer simulation capabilities required for intelligent behavior. To address this gap, we introduce WR-Arena, a comprehensive benchmark for evaluating WMs along three fundamental dimensions of next world simulation: (i) Action Simulation Fidelity, the ability to interpret and follow semantically meaningful, multi-step instructions and generate diverse counterfactual rollouts; (ii) Long-horizon Forecast, the ability to sustain accurate, coherent, and physically plausible simulations across extended interactions; and (iii) Simulative Reasoning and Planning, the ability to support goal-directed reasoning by simulating, comparing, and selecting among alternative futures in both structured and open-ended environments. We build a task taxonomy and curate diverse datasets designed to probe these capabilities, moving beyond single-turn and perceptual evaluations. Through extensive experiments with state-of-the-art WMs, our results expose a substantial gap between current models and human-level hypothetical reasoning, and establish WR-Arena as both a diagnostic tool and a guideline for advancing next-generation world models capable of robust understanding, forecasting, and purposeful action. Renewable Energy Integration in Distribution System -- Synchrophasor Sensor based Big Data Analysis, Visualization, and System Operation

Due to the large volume of heterogeneous data provided by both the customer and the grid side, a big data visualization platform is built to discover the hidden useful knowledge for smart grid (SG) operation, control and situation awareness. An open source cluster computing framework based on Apache Spark is considering to discover the hidden knowledge of the bag-data. And the data is transmitted with a Open System Interconnection (OSI) model to the data visualization platform in a high-speed communication architecture. Google Earth and global geographic information system (GIS) are used to design the visualization platform and realize the result with the test bench. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is used to compute the optimal power flow in distributed manner. The proposed network reconfiguration is solved in parallel manner with the limited switches and the strong computing capability. Further more, a multi-timescale operation approach is modeled with a three-phase distributed system, which consists the hourly scheduling at substation level and the minutes power flow operation at feeder level. The system cost with renewable generation is minimized at the substation level. The given error distribution model of renewable generation is simulated with a chance constraint, and the derived deterministic form is modeled with Gaussian mixture model (GMM) with genetic algorithm-based expectationmaximization (GAEM). The system cost is further reduced with the OPF in real-time (RT) scheduling. The semidefinite programming (SDP) is used to relax the nonconvexity of the three-phase unbalanced distribution system into a convex problem, which make sure to achieve the global optimal result. In the parallel manner, the ADMM is realizing getting the results in a short time.

Large region targets observation scheduling by multiple satellites using resampling particle swarm optimization

The last decades have witnessed a rapid increase of Earth observation satellites (EOSs), leading to the increasing complexity of EOSs scheduling. On account of the widespread applications of large region observation, this paper aims to address the EOSs observation scheduling problem for large region targets. A rapid coverage calculation method employing a projection reference plane and a polygon clipping technique is first developed. We then formulate a nonlinear integer programming model for the scheduling problem, where the objective function is calculated based on the developed coverage calculation method. A greedy initialization-based resampling particle swarm optimization (GI-RPSO) algorithm is proposed to solve the model. The adopted greedy initialization strategy and particle resampling method contribute to generating efficient and effective solutions during the evolution process. In the end, extensive experiments are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method. Compared to the traditional particle swarm optimization and the widely used greedy algorithm, the proposed GI-RPSO can improve the scheduling result by 5.42% and 15.86%, respectively.

Enhancing Quantitative Image Synthesis through Pretraining and Resolution Scaling for Bone Mineral Density Estimation from a Plain X-ray Image

While most vision tasks are essentially visual in nature (for recognition), some important tasks, especially in the medical field, also require quantitative analysis (for quantification) using quantitative images. Unlike in visual analysis, pixel values in quantitative images correspond to physical metrics measured by specific devices (e.g., a depth image). However, recent work has shown that it is sometimes possible to synthesize accurate quantitative values from visual ones (e.g., depth from visual cues or defocus). This research aims to improve quantitative image synthesis (QIS) by exploring pretraining and image resolution scaling. We propose a benchmark for evaluating pretraining performance using the task of QIS-based bone mineral density (BMD) estimation from plain X-ray images, where the synthesized quantitative image is used to derive BMD. Our results show that appropriate pretraining can improve QIS performance, significantly raising the correlation of BMD estimation from 0.820 to 0.898, while others do not help or even hinder it. Scaling-up the resolution can further boost the correlation up to 0.923, a significant enhancement over conventional methods. Future work will include exploring more pretraining strategies and validating them on other image synthesis tasks.

Learning Markov Random Fields for Combinatorial Structures via Sampling through Lovász Local Lemma

Learning to generate complex combinatorial structures satisfying constraints will have transformative impacts in many application domains. However, it is beyond the capabilities of existing approaches due to the highly intractable nature of the embedded probabilistic inference. Prior works spend most of the training time learning to separate valid from invalid structures but do not learn the inductive biases of valid structures. We develop NEural Lovász Sampler (Nelson), which embeds the sampler through Lovász Local Lemma (LLL) as a fully differentiable neural network layer. Our Nelson-CD embeds this sampler into the contrastive divergence learning process of Markov random fields. Nelson allows us to obtain valid samples from the current model distribution. Contrastive divergence is then applied to separate these samples from those in the training set. Nelson is implemented as a fully differentiable neural net, taking advantage of the parallelism of GPUs. Experimental results on several real-world domains reveal that Nelson learns to generate 100\% valid structures, while baselines either time out or cannot ensure validity. Nelson also outperforms other approaches in running time, log-likelihood, and MAP scores.

JECC: Commonsense Reasoning Tasks Derived from Interactive Fictions

Commonsense reasoning simulates the human ability to make presumptions about our physical world, and it is an essential cornerstone in building general AI systems. We propose a new commonsense reasoning dataset based on human's Interactive Fiction (IF) gameplay walkthroughs as human players demonstrate plentiful and diverse commonsense reasoning. The new dataset provides a natural mixture of various reasoning types and requires multi-hop reasoning. Moreover, the IF game-based construction procedure requires much less human interventions than previous ones. Different from existing benchmarks, our dataset focuses on the assessment of functional commonsense knowledge rules rather than factual knowledge. Hence, in order to achieve higher performance on our tasks, models need to effectively utilize such functional knowledge to infer the outcomes of actions, rather than relying solely on memorizing facts. Experiments show that the introduced dataset is challenging to previous machine reading models as well as the new large language models with a significant 20% performance gap compared to human experts.

Speech Recognition Rescoring with Large Speech-Text Foundation Models

Large language models (LLM) have demonstrated the ability to understand human language by leveraging large amount of text data. Automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems are often limited by available transcribed speech data and benefit from a second pass rescoring using LLM. Recently multi-modal large language models, particularly speech and text foundational models have demonstrated strong spoken language understanding. Speech-Text foundational models leverage large amounts of unlabelled and labelled data both in speech and text modalities to model human language. In this work, we propose novel techniques to use multi-modal LLM for ASR rescoring. We also explore discriminative training to further improve the foundational model rescoring performance. We demonstrate cross-modal knowledge transfer in speech-text LLM can benefit rescoring. Our experiments demonstrate up-to 20% relative improvements over Whisper large ASR and up-to 15% relative improvements over text-only LLM.

LLM360: Towards Fully Transparent Open-Source LLMs

The recent surge in open-source Large Language Models (LLMs), such as LLaMA, Falcon, and Mistral, provides diverse options for AI practitioners and researchers. However, most LLMs have only released partial artifacts, such as the final model weights or inference code, and technical reports increasingly limit their scope to high-level design choices and surface statistics. These choices hinder progress in the field by degrading transparency into the training of LLMs and forcing teams to rediscover many details in the training process. We present LLM360, an initiative to fully open-source LLMs, which advocates for all training code and data, model checkpoints, and intermediate results to be made available to the community. The goal of LLM360 is to support open and collaborative AI research by making the end-to-end LLM training process transparent and reproducible by everyone. As a first step of LLM360, we release two 7B parameter LLMs pre-trained from scratch, Amber and CrystalCoder, including their training code, data, intermediate checkpoints, and analyses (at https://www.llm360.ai). We are committed to continually pushing the boundaries of LLMs through this open-source effort. More large-scale and stronger models are underway and will be released in the future.

MaskRange: A Mask-classification Model for Range-view based LiDAR Segmentation

Range-view based LiDAR segmentation methods are attractive for practical applications due to their direct inheritance from efficient 2D CNN architectures. In literature, most range-view based methods follow the per-pixel classification paradigm. Recently, in the image segmentation domain, another paradigm formulates segmentation as a mask-classification problem and has achieved remarkable performance. This raises an interesting question: can the mask-classification paradigm benefit the range-view based LiDAR segmentation and achieve better performance than the counterpart per-pixel paradigm? To answer this question, we propose a unified mask-classification model, MaskRange, for the range-view based LiDAR semantic and panoptic segmentation. Along with the new paradigm, we also propose a novel data augmentation method to deal with overfitting, context-reliance, and class-imbalance problems. Extensive experiments are conducted on the SemanticKITTI benchmark. Among all published range-view based methods, our MaskRange achieves state-of-the-art performance with $66.10$ mIoU on semantic segmentation and promising results with $53.10$ PQ on panoptic segmentation with high efficiency. Revisiting Reinforcement Learning for LLM Reasoning from A Cross-Domain Perspective

Reinforcement learning (RL) has emerged as a promising approach to improve large language model (LLM) reasoning, yet most open efforts focus narrowly on math and code, limiting our understanding of its broader applicability to general reasoning. A key challenge lies in the lack of reliable, scalable RL reward signals across diverse reasoning domains. We introduce Guru, a curated RL reasoning corpus of 92K verifiable examples spanning six reasoning domains--Math, Code, Science, Logic, Simulation, and Tabular--each built through domain-specific reward design, deduplication, and filtering to ensure reliability and effectiveness for RL training. Based on Guru, we systematically revisit established findings in RL for LLM reasoning and observe significant variation across domains. For example, while prior work suggests that RL primarily elicits existing knowledge from pretrained models, our results reveal a more nuanced pattern: domains frequently seen during pretraining (Math, Code, Science) easily benefit from cross-domain RL training, while domains with limited pretraining exposure (Logic, Simulation, and Tabular) require in-domain training to achieve meaningful performance gains, suggesting that RL is likely to facilitate genuine skill acquisition. Finally, we present Guru-7B and Guru-32B, two models that achieve state-of-the-art performance among open models RL-trained with publicly available data, outperforming best baselines by 7.9% and 6.7% on our 17-task evaluation suite across six reasoning domains. We also show that our models effectively improve the Pass@k performance of their base models, particularly on complex tasks less likely to appear in pretraining data. Adversarial Score identity Distillation: Rapidly Surpassing the Teacher in One Step

Score identity Distillation (SiD) is a data-free method that has achieved SOTA performance in image generation by leveraging only a pretrained diffusion model, without requiring any training data. However, its ultimate performance is constrained by how accurate the pretrained model captures the true data scores at different stages of the diffusion process. In this paper, we introduce SiDA (SiD with Adversarial Loss), which not only enhances generation quality but also improves distillation efficiency by incorporating real images and adversarial loss. SiDA utilizes the encoder from the generator's score network as a discriminator, allowing it to distinguish between real images and those generated by SiD. The adversarial loss is batch-normalized within each GPU and then combined with the original SiD loss. This integration effectively incorporates the average "fakeness" per GPU batch into the pixel-based SiD loss, enabling SiDA to distill a single-step generator. SiDA converges significantly faster than its predecessor when distilled from scratch, and swiftly improves upon the original model's performance during fine-tuning from a pre-distilled SiD generator. This one-step adversarial distillation method establishes new benchmarks in generation performance when distilling EDM diffusion models, achieving FID scores of 1.110 on ImageNet 64x64. When distilling EDM2 models trained on ImageNet 512x512, our SiDA method surpasses even the largest teacher model, EDM2-XXL, which achieved an FID of 1.81 using classifier-free guidance (CFG) and 63 generation steps. In contrast, SiDA achieves FID scores of 2.156 for size XS, 1.669 for S, 1.488 for M, 1.413 for L, 1.379 for XL, and 1.366 for XXL, all without CFG and in a single generation step. Relative Preference Optimization: Enhancing LLM Alignment through Contrasting Responses across Identical and Diverse Prompts

In the field of large language models (LLMs), aligning models with the diverse preferences of users is a critical challenge. Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) has played a key role in this area. It works by using pairs of preferences derived from the same prompts, and it functions without needing an additional reward model. However, DPO does not fully reflect the complex nature of human learning, which often involves understanding contrasting responses to not only identical but also similar questions. To overcome this shortfall, we propose Relative Preference Optimization (RPO). RPO is designed to discern between more and less preferred responses derived from both identical and related prompts. It introduces a contrastive weighting mechanism, enabling the tuning of LLMs using a broader range of preference data, including both paired and unpaired sets. This approach expands the learning capabilities of the model, allowing it to leverage insights from a more varied set of prompts. Through empirical tests, including dialogue and summarization tasks, and evaluations using the AlpacaEval2.0 leaderboard, RPO has demonstrated a superior ability to align LLMs with user preferences and to improve their adaptability during the training process. MoSA: Motion-constrained Stress Adaptation for Mitigating Real-to-Sim Gap in Continuum Dynamics via Learning Residual Anisotropy

Learning real-world dynamics from visual observations is crucial for various domains. A common strategy is to calibrate simulators by estimating physical parameters, yet accuracy is ultimately bounded by the underlying physical models, which often assume materials are homogeneous and isotropic. Even if reasonable, real-world objects typically exhibit mild anisotropy and heterogeneity. After the near-isotropic backbone is well calibrated, these residual effects become the key bottleneck for further closing the real-to-sim gap. Although neural networks can fit dynamics end-to-end, such black-box modeling discards strong physical priors, leading to poor data efficiency and overfitting. Therefore, we propose MoSA, a motion-constrained stress adaptation framework that targets these residual effects to further improve real-to-sim dynamics learning. MoSA uses an isotropic model as a physics prior and learns residual stress operators to capture mild anisotropy and heterogeneity. It progressively adapts stresses via microplane-constrained redistribution in a physics-informed cascaded network. We further impose motion constraints by supervising temporal and spatial derivatives of the deformation field. Experimentally, our learned dynamics achieves superior accuracy, generalization, and robustness, while learning physically meaningful residual anisotropy. Finally, we validate MoSA in a robot manipulation setting, showing that better real-to-sim dynamics modeling translates into more reliable sim-to-real transfer. SIGMA: Scalable Spectral Insights for LLM Model Collapse

The rapid adoption of synthetic data for training Large Language Models (LLMs) has introduced the technical challenge of "model collapse"-a degenerative process where recursive training on model-generated content leads to a contraction of distributional variance and representational quality. While the phenomenology of collapse is increasingly evident, rigorous methods to quantify and predict its onset in high-dimensional spaces remain elusive. In this paper, we introduce SIGMA (Spectral Inequalities for Gram Matrix Analysis), a unified framework that benchmarks model collapse through the spectral lens of the embedding Gram matrix. By deriving and utilizing deterministic and stochastic bounds on the matrix's spectrum, SIGMA provides a mathematically grounded metric to track the contraction of the representation space. Crucially, our stochastic formulation enables scalable estimation of these bounds, making the framework applicable to large-scale foundation models where full eigendecomposition is intractable. We demonstrate that SIGMA effectively captures the transition towards degenerate states, offering both theoretical insights into the mechanics of collapse and a practical, scalable tool for monitoring the health of recursive training pipelines.

EOS-Bench: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Earth Observation Satellite Scheduling

Earth observation satellite imaging scheduling is a challenging NP-hard combinatorial optimisation problem central to space mission operations. While next-generation agile Earth observation satellites (EOS) increase operational flexibility, they also significantly raise scheduling complexity. The lack of a unified, open-source benchmark makes it difficult to compare algorithms across studies. This paper introduces EOS-Bench, a comprehensive framework for systematic and reproducible evaluation of scheduling methods. By integrating high-fidelity orbital dynamics and platform constraints, EOS-Bench generates 1,390 scenarios and 13,900 benchmark instances, spanning from small-scale validation cases to large coordination problems with up to 1,000 satellites and 10,000 requests. We further propose a scenario characterisation scheme to quantify structural difficulty based on factors such as opportunity density, task flexibility, conflict intensity, and satellite congestion. A multidimensional evaluation protocol is introduced, assessing performance across five metrics: task profit, completion rate, workload balance, timeliness, and runtime. The framework is evaluated using mixed-integer programming, heuristics, meta-heuristics, and deep reinforcement learning across both agile and non-agile settings. Results show that EOS-Bench effectively distinguishes solver performance across scales and conditions, revealing trade-offs between solution quality and computational efficiency, and providing deeper insight into scenario complexity. PAN: A World Model for General, Interactable, and Long-Horizon World Simulation

A world model enables an intelligent agent to imagine, predict, and reason about how the world evolves in response to its actions, and accordingly to plan and strategize. While recent video generation models produce realistic visual sequences, they typically operate in the prompt-to-full-video manner without causal control, interactivity, or long-horizon consistency required for purposeful reasoning. Existing world modeling efforts, on the other hand, often focus on restricted domains (e.g., physical, game, or 3D-scene dynamics) with limited depth and controllability, and struggle to generalize across diverse environments and interaction formats. In this work, we introduce PAN, a general, interactable, and long-horizon world model that predicts future world states through high-quality video simulation conditioned on history and natural language actions. PAN employs the Generative Latent Prediction (GLP) architecture that combines an autoregressive latent dynamics backbone based on a large language model (LLM), which grounds simulation in extensive text-based knowledge and enables conditioning on language-specified actions, with a video diffusion decoder that reconstructs perceptually detailed and temporally coherent visual observations, to achieve a unification between latent space reasoning (imagination) and realizable world dynamics (reality). Trained on large-scale video-action pairs spanning diverse domains, PAN supports open-domain, action-conditioned simulation with coherent, long-term dynamics. Extensive experiments show that PAN achieves strong performance in action-conditioned world simulation, long-horizon forecasting, and simulative reasoning compared to other video generators and world models, taking a step towards general world models that enable predictive simulation of future world states for reasoning and acting.

AniMer: Animal Pose and Shape Estimation Using Family Aware Transformer

Quantitative analysis of animal behavior and biomechanics requires accurate animal pose and shape estimation across species, and is important for animal welfare and biological research. However, the small network capacity of previous methods and limited multi-species dataset leave this problem underexplored. To this end, this paper presents AniMer to estimate animal pose and shape using family aware Transformer, enhancing the reconstruction accuracy of diverse quadrupedal families. A key insight of AniMer is its integration of a high-capacity Transformer-based backbone and an animal family supervised contrastive learning scheme, unifying the discriminative understanding of various quadrupedal shapes within a single framework. For effective training, we aggregate most available open-sourced quadrupedal datasets, either with 3D or 2D labels. To improve the diversity of 3D labeled data, we introduce CtrlAni3D, a novel large-scale synthetic dataset created through a new diffusion-based conditional image generation pipeline. CtrlAni3D consists of about 10k images with pixel-aligned SMAL labels. In total, we obtain 41.3k annotated images for training and validation. Consequently, the combination of a family aware Transformer network and an expansive dataset enables AniMer to outperform existing methods not only on 3D datasets like Animal3D and CtrlAni3D, but also on out-of-distribution Animal Kingdom dataset. Ablation studies further demonstrate the effectiveness of our network design and CtrlAni3D in enhancing the performance of AniMer for in-the-wild applications. Few-Step Diffusion via Score identity Distillation

Diffusion distillation has emerged as a promising strategy for accelerating text-to-image (T2I) diffusion models by distilling a pretrained score network into a one- or few-step generator. While existing methods have made notable progress, they often rely on real or teacher-synthesized images to perform well when distilling high-resolution T2I diffusion models such as Stable Diffusion XL (SDXL), and their use of classifier-free guidance (CFG) introduces a persistent trade-off between text-image alignment and generation diversity. We address these challenges by optimizing Score identity Distillation (SiD) -- a data-free, one-step distillation framework -- for few-step generation. Backed by theoretical analysis that justifies matching a uniform mixture of outputs from all generation steps to the data distribution, our few-step distillation algorithm avoids step-specific networks and integrates seamlessly into existing pipelines, achieving state-of-the-art performance on SDXL at 1024x1024 resolution. To mitigate the alignment-diversity trade-off when real text-image pairs are available, we introduce a Diffusion GAN-based adversarial loss applied to the uniform mixture and propose two new guidance strategies: Zero-CFG, which disables CFG in the teacher and removes text conditioning in the fake score network, and Anti-CFG, which applies negative CFG in the fake score network. This flexible setup improves diversity without sacrificing alignment. Comprehensive experiments on SD1.5 and SDXL demonstrate state-of-the-art performance in both one-step and few-step generation settings, along with robustness to the absence of real images. LLM360 K2: Building a 65B 360-Open-Source Large Language Model from Scratch

We detail the training of the LLM360 K2-65B model, scaling up our 360-degree OPEN SOURCE approach to the largest and most powerful models under project LLM360. While open-source LLMs continue to advance, the answer to "How are the largest LLMs trained?" remains unclear within the community. The implementation details for such high-capacity models are often protected due to business considerations associated with their high cost. This lack of transparency prevents LLM researchers from leveraging valuable insights from prior experience, e.g., "What are the best practices for addressing loss spikes?" The LLM360 K2 project addresses this gap by providing full transparency and access to resources accumulated during the training of LLMs at the largest scale. This report highlights key elements of the K2 project, including our first model, K2 DIAMOND, a 65 billion-parameter LLM that surpasses LLaMA-65B and rivals LLaMA2-70B, while requiring fewer FLOPs and tokens. We detail the implementation steps and present a longitudinal analysis of K2 DIAMOND's capabilities throughout its training process. We also outline ongoing projects such as TXT360, setting the stage for future models in the series. By offering previously unavailable resources, the K2 project also resonates with the 360-degree OPEN SOURCE principles of transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility, which we believe are vital in the era of resource-intensive AI research.

INSIDE: LLMs' Internal States Retain the Power of Hallucination Detection

Knowledge hallucination have raised widespread concerns for the security and reliability of deployed LLMs. Previous efforts in detecting hallucinations have been employed at logit-level uncertainty estimation or language-level self-consistency evaluation, where the semantic information is inevitably lost during the token-decoding procedure. Thus, we propose to explore the dense semantic information retained within LLMs' \textbf{IN}ternal \textbf{S}tates for halluc\textbf{I}nation \textbf{DE}tection (\textbf{INSIDE}). In particular, a simple yet effective \textbf{EigenScore} metric is proposed to better evaluate responses' self-consistency, which exploits the eigenvalues of responses' covariance matrix to measure the semantic consistency/diversity in the dense embedding space. Furthermore, from the perspective of self-consistent hallucination detection, a test time feature clipping approach is explored to truncate extreme activations in the internal states, which reduces overconfident generations and potentially benefits the detection of overconfident hallucinations. Extensive experiments and ablation studies are performed on several popular LLMs and question-answering (QA) benchmarks, showing the effectiveness of our proposal.

UAVLight: A Benchmark for Illumination-Robust 3D Reconstruction in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Scenes

Illumination inconsistency is a fundamental challenge in multi-view 3D reconstruction. Variations in sunlight direction, cloud cover, and shadows break the constant-lighting assumption underlying both classical multi-view stereo (MVS) and structure from motion (SfM) pipelines and recent neural rendering methods, leading to geometry drift, color inconsistency, and shadow imprinting. This issue is especially critical in UAV-based reconstruction, where long flight durations and outdoor environments make lighting changes unavoidable. However, existing datasets either restrict capture to short time windows, thus lacking meaningful illumination diversity, or span months and seasons, where geometric and semantic changes confound the isolated study of lighting robustness. We introduce UAVLight, a controlled-yet-real benchmark for illumination-robust 3D reconstruction. Each scene is captured along repeatable, geo-referenced flight paths at multiple fixed times of day, producing natural lighting variation under consistent geometry, calibration, and viewpoints. With standardized evaluation protocols across lighting conditions, UAVLight provides a reliable foundation for developing and benchmarking reconstruction methods that are consistent, faithful, and relightable in real outdoor environments.

FixingGS: Enhancing 3D Gaussian Splatting via Training-Free Score Distillation

Recently, 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has demonstrated remarkable success in 3D reconstruction and novel view synthesis. However, reconstructing 3D scenes from sparse viewpoints remains highly challenging due to insufficient visual information, which results in noticeable artifacts persisting across the 3D representation. To address this limitation, recent methods have resorted to generative priors to remove artifacts and complete missing content in under-constrained areas. Despite their effectiveness, these approaches struggle to ensure multi-view consistency, resulting in blurred structures and implausible details. In this work, we propose FixingGS, a training-free method that fully exploits the capabilities of the existing diffusion model for sparse-view 3DGS reconstruction enhancement. At the core of FixingGS is our distillation approach, which delivers more accurate and cross-view coherent diffusion priors, thereby enabling effective artifact removal and inpainting. In addition, we propose an adaptive progressive enhancement scheme that further refines reconstructions in under-constrained regions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that FixingGS surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods with superior visual quality and reconstruction performance. Our code will be released publicly.

Learning Contrastive Multimodal Fusion with Improved Modality Dropout for Disease Detection and Prediction

As medical diagnoses increasingly leverage multimodal data, machine learning models are expected to effectively fuse heterogeneous information while remaining robust to missing modalities. In this work, we propose a novel multimodal learning framework that integrates enhanced modalities dropout and contrastive learning to address real-world limitations such as modality imbalance and missingness. Our approach introduces learnable modality tokens for improving missingness-aware fusion of modalities and augments conventional unimodal contrastive objectives with fused multimodal representations. We validate our framework on large-scale clinical datasets for disease detection and prediction tasks, encompassing both visual and tabular modalities. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance, particularly in challenging and practical scenarios where only a single modality is available. Furthermore, we show its adaptability through successful integration with a recent CT foundation model. Our findings highlight the effectiveness, efficiency, and generalizability of our approach for multimodal learning, offering a scalable, low-cost solution with significant potential for real-world clinical applications. Decentralized Arena: Towards Democratic and Scalable Automatic Evaluation of Language Models

The recent explosion of large language models (LLMs), each with its own general or specialized strengths, makes scalable, reliable benchmarking more urgent than ever. Standard practices nowadays face fundamental trade-offs: closed-ended question-based benchmarks (eg MMLU) struggle with saturation as newer models emerge, while crowd-sourced leaderboards (eg Chatbot Arena) rely on costly and slow human judges. Recently, automated methods (eg LLM-as-a-judge) shed light on the scalability, but risk bias by relying on one or a few "authority" models. To tackle these issues, we propose Decentralized Arena (dearena), a fully automated framework leveraging collective intelligence from all LLMs to evaluate each other. It mitigates single-model judge bias by democratic, pairwise evaluation, and remains efficient at scale through two key components: (1) a coarse-to-fine ranking algorithm for fast incremental insertion of new models with sub-quadratic complexity, and (2) an automatic question selection strategy for the construction of new evaluation dimensions. Across extensive experiments across 66 LLMs, dearena attains up to 97% correlation with human judgements, while significantly reducing the cost. Diffusion-RPO: Aligning Diffusion Models through Relative Preference Optimization

Aligning large language models with human preferences has emerged as a critical focus in language modeling research. Yet, integrating preference learning into Text-to-Image (T2I) generative models is still relatively uncharted territory. The Diffusion-DPO technique made initial strides by employing pairwise preference learning in diffusion models tailored for specific text prompts. We introduce Diffusion-RPO, a new method designed to align diffusion-based T2I models with human preferences more effectively. This approach leverages both prompt-image pairs with identical prompts and those with semantically related content across various modalities. Furthermore, we have developed a new evaluation metric, style alignment, aimed at overcoming the challenges of high costs, low reproducibility, and limited interpretability prevalent in current evaluations of human preference alignment. Our findings demonstrate that Diffusion-RPO outperforms established methods such as Supervised Fine-Tuning and Diffusion-DPO in tuning Stable Diffusion versions 1.5 and XL-1.0, achieving superior results in both automated evaluations of human preferences and style alignment. Morphology-Consistent Humanoid Interaction through Robot-Centric Video Synthesis

Equipping humanoid robots with versatile interaction skills typically requires either extensive policy training or explicit human-to-robot motion retargeting. However, learning-based policies face prohibitive data collection costs. Meanwhile, retargeting relies on human-centric pose estimation (e.g., SMPL), introducing a morphology gap. Skeletal scale mismatches result in severe spatial misalignments when mapped to robots, compromising interaction success. In this work, we propose Dream2Act, a robot-centric framework enabling zero-shot interaction through generative video synthesis. Given a third-person image of the robot and target object, our framework leverages video generation models to envision the robot completing the task with morphology-consistent motion. We employ a high-fidelity pose extraction system to recover physically feasible, robot-native joint trajectories from these synthesized dreams, subsequently executed via a general-purpose whole-body controller. Operating strictly within the robot-native coordinate space, Dream2Act avoids retargeting errors and eliminates task-specific policy training. We evaluate Dream2Act on the Unitree G1 across four whole-body mobile interaction tasks: ball kicking, sofa sitting, bag punching, and box hugging. Dream2Act achieves a 37.5% overall success rate, compared to 0% for conventional retargeting. While retargeting fails to establish correct physical contacts due to the morphology gap (with errors compounded during locomotion), Dream2Act maintains robot-consistent spatial alignment, enabling reliable contact formation and substantially higher task completion.

LLM Reasoners: New Evaluation, Library, and Analysis of Step-by-Step Reasoning with Large Language Models

Generating accurate step-by-step reasoning is essential for Large Language Models (LLMs) to address complex problems and enhance robustness and interpretability. Despite the flux of research on developing advanced reasoning approaches, systematically analyzing the diverse LLMs and reasoning strategies in generating reasoning chains remains a significant challenge. The difficulties stem from the lack of two key elements: (1) an automatic method for evaluating the generated reasoning chains on different tasks, and (2) a unified formalism and implementation of the diverse reasoning approaches for systematic comparison. This paper aims to close the gap: (1) We introduce AutoRace for fully automated reasoning chain evaluation. Existing metrics rely on expensive human annotations or pre-defined LLM prompts not adaptable to different tasks. In contrast, AutoRace automatically creates detailed evaluation criteria tailored for each task, and uses GPT-4 for accurate evaluation following the criteria. (2) We develop LLM Reasoners, a library for standardized modular implementation of existing and new reasoning algorithms, under a unified formulation of the search, reward, and world model components. With the new evaluation and library, (3) we conduct extensive study of different reasoning approaches (e.g., CoT, ToT, RAP). PDF-HR: Pose Distance Fields for Humanoid Robots

Pose and motion priors play a crucial role in humanoid robotics. Although such priors have been widely studied in human motion recovery (HMR) domain with a range of models, their adoption for humanoid robots remains limited, largely due to the scarcity of high-quality humanoid motion data. In this work, we introduce Pose Distance Fields for Humanoid Robots (PDF-HR), a lightweight prior that represents the robot pose distribution as a continuous and differentiable manifold. Given an arbitrary pose, PDF-HR predicts its distance to a large corpus of retargeted robot poses, yielding a smooth measure of pose plausibility that is well suited for optimization and control. PDF-HR can be integrated as a reward shaping term, a regularizer, or a standalone plausibility scorer across diverse pipelines. We evaluate PDF-HR on various humanoid tasks, including single-trajectory motion tracking, general motion tracking, style-based motion mimicry, and general motion retargeting. Experiments show that this plug-and-play prior consistently and substantially strengthens strong baselines. Code and models will be released.

Automatic hip osteoarthritis grading with uncertainty estimation from computed tomography using digitally-reconstructed radiographs

Progression of hip osteoarthritis (hip OA) leads to pain and disability, likely leading to surgical treatment such as hip arthroplasty at the terminal stage. The severity of hip OA is often classified using the Crowe and Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) classifications. However, as the classification is subjective, we aimed to develop an automated approach to classify the disease severity based on the two grades using digitally-reconstructed radiographs (DRRs) from CT images. Automatic grading of the hip OA severity was performed using deep learning-based models. The models were trained to predict the disease grade using two grading schemes, i.e., predicting the Crowe and KL grades separately, and predicting a new ordinal label combining both grades and representing the disease progression of hip OA. The models were trained in classification and regression settings. In addition, the model uncertainty was estimated and validated as a predictor of classification accuracy. The models were trained and validated on a database of 197 hip OA patients, and externally validated on 52 patients. The model accuracy was evaluated using exact class accuracy (ECA), one-neighbor class accuracy (ONCA), and balanced accuracy.The deep learning models produced a comparable accuracy of approximately 0.65 (ECA) and 0.95 (ONCA) in the classification and regression settings. The model uncertainty was significantly larger in cases with large classification errors (P<6e-3). In this study, an automatic approach for grading hip OA severity from CT images was developed. The models have shown comparable performance with high ONCA, which facilitates automated grading in large-scale CT databases and indicates the potential for further disease progression analysis. Classification accuracy was correlated with the model uncertainty, which would allow for the prediction of classification errors.

Sparse View Distractor-Free Gaussian Splatting

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables efficient training and fast novel view synthesis in static environments. To address challenges posed by transient objects, distractor-free 3DGS methods have emerged and shown promising results when dense image captures are available. However, their performance degrades significantly under sparse input conditions. This limitation primarily stems from the reliance on the color residual heuristics to guide the training, which becomes unreliable with limited observations. In this work, we propose a framework to enhance distractor-free 3DGS under sparse-view conditions by incorporating rich prior information. Specifically, we first adopt the geometry foundation model VGGT to estimate camera parameters and generate a dense set of initial 3D points. Then, we harness the attention maps from VGGT for efficient and accurate semantic entity matching. Additionally, we utilize Vision-Language Models (VLMs) to further identify and preserve the large static regions in the scene. We also demonstrate how these priors can be seamlessly integrated into existing distractor-free 3DGS methods. Extensive experiments confirm the effectiveness and robustness of our approach in mitigating transient distractors for sparse-view 3DGS training.

Discover physical concepts and equations with machine learning

Machine learning can uncover physical concepts or physical equations when prior knowledge from the other is available. However, these two aspects are often intertwined and cannot be discovered independently. We extend SciNet, which is a neural network architecture that simulates the human physical reasoning process for physics discovery, by proposing a model that combines Variational Autoencoders (VAE) with Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (Neural ODEs). This allows us to simultaneously discover physical concepts and governing equations from simulated experimental data across various physical systems. We apply the model to several examples inspired by the history of physics, including Copernicus' heliocentrism, Newton's law of gravity, Schrödinger's wave mechanics, and Pauli's spin-magnetic formulation. The results demonstrate that the correct physical theories can emerge in the neural network.

ChatHouseDiffusion: Prompt-Guided Generation and Editing of Floor Plans

The generation and editing of floor plans are critical in architectural planning, requiring a high degree of flexibility and efficiency. Existing methods demand extensive input information and lack the capability for interactive adaptation to user modifications. This paper introduces ChatHouseDiffusion, which leverages large language models (LLMs) to interpret natural language input, employs graphormer to encode topological relationships, and uses diffusion models to flexibly generate and edit floor plans. This approach allows iterative design adjustments based on user ideas, significantly enhancing design efficiency. Compared to existing models, ChatHouseDiffusion achieves higher Intersection over Union (IoU) scores, permitting precise, localized adjustments without the need for complete redesigns, thus offering greater practicality. Experiments demonstrate that our model not only strictly adheres to user specifications but also facilitates a more intuitive design process through its interactive capabilities.

Sharpening Your Density Fields: Spiking Neuron Aided Fast Geometry Learning

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) have achieved remarkable progress in neural rendering. Extracting geometry from NeRF typically relies on the Marching Cubes algorithm, which uses a hand-crafted threshold to define the level set. However, this threshold-based approach requires laborious and scenario-specific tuning, limiting its practicality for real-world applications. In this work, we seek to enhance the efficiency of this method during the training time. To this end, we introduce a spiking neuron mechanism that dynamically adjusts the threshold, eliminating the need for manual selection. Despite its promise, directly training with the spiking neuron often results in model collapse and noisy outputs. To overcome these challenges, we propose a round-robin strategy that stabilizes the training process and enables the geometry network to achieve a sharper and more precise density distribution with minimal computational overhead. We validate our approach through extensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets. The results show that our method significantly improves the performance of threshold-based techniques, offering a more robust and efficient solution for NeRF geometry extraction.

Federated Heterogeneous Language Model Optimization for Hybrid Automatic Speech Recognition

Training automatic speech recognition (ASR) models increasingly relies on decentralized federated learning to ensure data privacy and accessibility, producing multiple local models that require effective merging. In hybrid ASR systems, while acoustic models can be merged using established methods, the language model (LM) for rescoring the N-best speech recognition list faces challenges due to the heterogeneity of non-neural n-gram models and neural network models. This paper proposes a heterogeneous LM optimization task and introduces a match-and-merge paradigm with two algorithms: the Genetic Match-and-Merge Algorithm (GMMA), using genetic operations to evolve and pair LMs, and the Reinforced Match-and-Merge Algorithm (RMMA), leveraging reinforcement learning for efficient convergence. Experiments on seven OpenSLR datasets show RMMA achieves the lowest average Character Error Rate and better generalization than baselines, converging up to seven times faster than GMMA, highlighting the paradigm's potential for scalable, privacy-preserving ASR systems.

Learning and Simulating Building Evacuation Patterns for Enhanced Safety Design Using Generative Models

Evacuation simulation is essential for building safety design, ensuring properly planned evacuation routes. However, traditional evacuation simulation relies heavily on refined modeling with extensive parameters, making it challenging to adopt such methods in a rapid iteration process in early design stages. Thus, this study proposes DiffEvac, a novel method to learn building evacuation patterns based on Generative Models (GMs), for efficient evacuation simulation and enhanced safety design. Initially, a dataset of 399 diverse functional layouts and corresponding evacuation heatmaps of buildings was established. Then, a decoupled feature representation is proposed to embed physical features like layouts and occupant density for GMs. Finally, a diffusion model based on image prompts is proposed to learn evacuation patterns from simulated evacuation heatmaps. Compared to existing research using Conditional GANs with RGB representation, DiffEvac achieves up to a 37.6% improvement in SSIM, 142% in PSNR, and delivers results 16 times faster, thereby cutting simulation time to 2 minutes. Case studies further demonstrate that the proposed method not only significantly enhances the rapid design iteration and adjustment process with efficient evacuation simulation but also offers new insights and technical pathways for future safety optimization in intelligent building design. The research implication is that the approach lowers the modeling burden, enables large-scale what-if exploration, and facilitates coupling with multi-objective design tools.

Efficient Long-context Language Model Training by Core Attention Disaggregation

We present core attention disaggregation (CAD), a technique that improves long-context large language model training by decoupling the core attention computation, softmax(QK^T)V, from the rest of the model and executing it on a separate pool of devices. In existing systems, core attention is colocated with other layers; at long context lengths, its quadratic compute growth compared to the near-linear growth of other components causes load imbalance and stragglers across data and pipeline parallel groups. CAD is enabled by two observations. First, core attention is stateless: it has no trainable parameters and only minimal transient data, so balancing reduces to scheduling compute-bound tasks. Second, it is composable: modern attention kernels retain high efficiency when processing fused batches of token-level shards with arbitrary lengths. CAD partitions core attention into token-level tasks and dispatches them to dedicated attention servers, which dynamically rebatch tasks to equalize compute without sacrificing kernel efficiency. We implement CAD in a system called DistCA, which uses a ping-pong execution scheme to fully overlap communication with computation and in-place execution on attention servers to reduce memory use. On 512 H200 GPUs and context lengths up to 512k tokens, DistCA improves end-to-end training throughput by up to 1.35x, eliminates data and pipeline parallel stragglers, and achieves near-perfect compute and memory balance.

DEGS: Deformable Event-based 3D Gaussian Splatting from RGB and Event Stream

Reconstructing Dynamic 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) from low-framerate RGB videos is challenging. This is because large inter-frame motions will increase the uncertainty of the solution space. For example, one pixel in the first frame might have more choices to reach the corresponding pixel in the second frame. Event cameras can asynchronously capture rapid visual changes and are robust to motion blur, but they do not provide color information. Intuitively, the event stream can provide deterministic constraints for the inter-frame large motion by the event trajectories. Hence, combining low-temporal-resolution images with high-framerate event streams can address this challenge. However, it is challenging to jointly optimize Dynamic 3DGS using both RGB and event modalities due to the significant discrepancy between these two data modalities. This paper introduces a novel framework that jointly optimizes dynamic 3DGS from the two modalities. The key idea is to adopt event motion priors to guide the optimization of the deformation fields. First, we extract the motion priors encoded in event streams by using the proposed LoCM unsupervised fine-tuning framework to adapt an event flow estimator to a certain unseen scene. Then, we present the geometry-aware data association method to build the event-Gaussian motion correspondence, which is the primary foundation of the pipeline, accompanied by two useful strategies, namely motion decomposition and inter-frame pseudo-label. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms existing image and event-based approaches across synthetic and real scenes and prove that our method can effectively optimize dynamic 3DGS with the help of event data.
