Head360: Learning a Parametric 3D Full-Head for Free-View Synthesis in 360°Yuxiao He, Yiyu Zhuang, Yanwen Wang et al.
Creating a 360° parametric model of a human head is a very challenging task. While recent advancements have demonstrated the efficacy of leveraging synthetic data for building such parametric head models, their performance remains inadequate in crucial areas such as expression-driven animation, hairstyle editing, and text-based modifications. In this paper, we build a dataset of artist-designed high-fidelity human heads and propose to create a novel parametric 360° renderable parametric head model from it. Our scheme decouples the facial motion/shape and facial appearance, which are represented by a classic parametric 3D mesh model and an attached neural texture, respectively. We further propose a training method for decompositing hairstyle and facial appearance, allowing free-swapping of the hairstyle. A novel inversion fitting method is presented based on single image input with high generalization and fidelity. To the best of our knowledge, our model is the first parametric 3D full-head that achieves 360° free-view synthesis, image-based fitting, appearance editing, and animation within a single model. Experiments show that facial motions and appearances are well disentangled in the parametric space, leading to SOTA performance in rendering and animating quality. GaussianPro: 3D Gaussian Splatting with Progressive PropagationKai Cheng, Xiaoxiao Long, Kaizhi Yang et al.
The advent of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has recently brought about a revolution in the field of neural rendering, facilitating high-quality renderings at real-time speed. However, 3DGS heavily depends on the initialized point cloud produced by Structure-from-Motion (SfM) techniques. When tackling with large-scale scenes that unavoidably contain texture-less surfaces, the SfM techniques always fail to produce enough points in these surfaces and cannot provide good initialization for 3DGS. As a result, 3DGS suffers from difficult optimization and low-quality renderings. In this paper, inspired by classical multi-view stereo (MVS) techniques, we propose GaussianPro, a novel method that applies a progressive propagation strategy to guide the densification of the 3D Gaussians. Compared to the simple split and clone strategies used in 3DGS, our method leverages the priors of the existing reconstructed geometries of the scene and patch matching techniques to produce new Gaussians with accurate positions and orientations. Experiments on both large-scale and small-scale scenes validate the effectiveness of our method, where our method significantly surpasses 3DGS on the Waymo dataset, exhibiting an improvement of 1.15dB in terms of PSNR.

CDR-Adapter: Learning Adapters to Dig Out More Transferring Ability for Cross-Domain Recommendation ModelsYanyu Chen, Yao Yao, Wai Kin Victor Chan et al.
Data sparsity and cold-start problems are persistent challenges in recommendation systems. Cross-domain recommendation (CDR) is a promising solution that utilizes knowledge from the source domain to improve the recommendation performance in the target domain. Previous CDR approaches have mainly followed the Embedding and Mapping (EMCDR) framework, which involves learning a mapping function to facilitate knowledge transfer. However, these approaches necessitate re-engineering and re-training the network structure to incorporate transferrable knowledge, which can be computationally expensive and may result in catastrophic forgetting of the original knowledge. In this paper, we present a scalable and efficient paradigm to address data sparsity and cold-start issues in CDR, named CDR-Adapter, by decoupling the original recommendation model from the mapping function, without requiring re-engineering the network structure. Specifically, CDR-Adapter is a novel plug-and-play module that employs adapter modules to align feature representations, allowing for flexible knowledge transfer across different domains and efficient fine-tuning with minimal training costs. We conducted extensive experiments on the benchmark dataset, which demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach over several state-of-the-art CDR approaches.

Direct3D-S2: Gigascale 3D Generation Made Easy with Spatial Sparse AttentionShuang Wu, Youtian Lin, Feihu Zhang et al.
Generating high-resolution 3D shapes using volumetric representations such as Signed Distance Functions (SDFs) presents substantial computational and memory challenges. We introduce Direct3D-S2, a scalable 3D generation framework based on sparse volumes that achieves superior output quality with dramatically reduced training costs. Our key innovation is the Spatial Sparse Attention (SSA) mechanism, which greatly enhances the efficiency of Diffusion Transformer (DiT) computations on sparse volumetric data. SSA allows the model to effectively process large token sets within sparse volumes, substantially reducing computational overhead and achieving a 3.9x speedup in the forward pass and a 9.6x speedup in the backward pass. Our framework also includes a variational autoencoder (VAE) that maintains a consistent sparse volumetric format across input, latent, and output stages. Compared to previous methods with heterogeneous representations in 3D VAE, this unified design significantly improves training efficiency and stability. Our model is trained on public available datasets, and experiments demonstrate that Direct3D-S2 not only surpasses state-of-the-art methods in generation quality and efficiency, but also enables training at 1024 resolution using only 8 GPUs, a task typically requiring at least 32 GPUs for volumetric representations at 256 resolution, thus making gigascale 3D generation both practical and accessible.
