MemTrace: Tracing and Attributing Errors in Large Language Model Memory SystemsXinle Deng, Ruobin Zhong, Hujin Peng et al.
Memory is essential for enabling large language models to support long-horizon reasoning, yet existing memory systems remain unreliable and difficult to debug. Tracing memory's dynamic evolution is crucial to understand how information is synthesized, propagated, or corrupted over time. In this work, we study the new problem of error tracing and attribution in LLM memory systems. We propose a novel framework that transforms memory pipelines into executable memory evolution graphs, enabling fine-grained tracing of operational information flow. We then construct MemTraceBench, a benchmark collected from representative memory systems such as Long-Context, RAG, Mem0, and EverMemOS, to systematically study memory failure modes. We further introduce an automatic attribution method that iteratively traces operation subgraphs to pinpoint the root cause of any failed case. Our analysis reveals that memory failures are systematic, stemming from operation-level issues like information loss and retrieval misalignment. Crucially, we leverage these fine-grained attribution signals to guide downstream prompt optimization, establishing a closed-loop system that automatically corrects faults and boosts end-task performance by up to 7.62%. Generative Dataset Distillation Based on Diffusion ModelDuo Su, Junjie Hou, Guang Li et al.
This paper presents our method for the generative track of The First Dataset Distillation Challenge at ECCV 2024. Since the diffusion model has become the mainstay of generative models because of its high-quality generative effects, we focus on distillation methods based on the diffusion model. Considering that the track can only generate a fixed number of images in 10 minutes using a generative model for CIFAR-100 and Tiny-ImageNet datasets, we need to use a generative model that can generate images at high speed. In this study, we proposed a novel generative dataset distillation method based on Stable Diffusion. Specifically, we use the SDXL-Turbo model which can generate images at high speed and quality. Compared to other diffusion models that can only generate images per class (IPC) = 1, our method can achieve an IPC = 10 for Tiny-ImageNet and an IPC = 20 for CIFAR-100, respectively. Additionally, to generate high-quality distilled datasets for CIFAR-100 and Tiny-ImageNet, we use the class information as text prompts and post data augmentation for the SDXL-Turbo model. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method, and we achieved third place in the generative track of the ECCV 2024 DD Challenge. The STOIC2021 COVID-19 AI challenge: applying reusable training methodologies to private dataLuuk H. Boulogne, Julian Lorenz, Daniel Kienzle et al.
Challenges drive the state-of-the-art of automated medical image analysis. The quantity of public training data that they provide can limit the performance of their solutions. Public access to the training methodology for these solutions remains absent. This study implements the Type Three (T3) challenge format, which allows for training solutions on private data and guarantees reusable training methodologies. With T3, challenge organizers train a codebase provided by the participants on sequestered training data. T3 was implemented in the STOIC2021 challenge, with the goal of predicting from a computed tomography (CT) scan whether subjects had a severe COVID-19 infection, defined as intubation or death within one month. STOIC2021 consisted of a Qualification phase, where participants developed challenge solutions using 2000 publicly available CT scans, and a Final phase, where participants submitted their training methodologies with which solutions were trained on CT scans of 9724 subjects. The organizers successfully trained six of the eight Final phase submissions. The submitted codebases for training and running inference were released publicly. The winning solution obtained an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for discerning between severe and non-severe COVID-19 of 0.815. Compressed Gastric Image Generation Based on Soft-Label Dataset Distillation for Medical Data SharingGuang Li, Ren Togo, Takahiro Ogawa et al.
Background and objective: Sharing of medical data is required to enable the cross-agency flow of healthcare information and construct high-accuracy computer-aided diagnosis systems. However, the large sizes of medical datasets, the massive amount of memory of saved deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) models, and patients' privacy protection are problems that can lead to inefficient medical data sharing. Therefore, this study proposes a novel soft-label dataset distillation method for medical data sharing. Methods: The proposed method distills valid information of medical image data and generates several compressed images with different data distributions for anonymous medical data sharing. Furthermore, our method can extract essential weights of DCNN models to reduce the memory required to save trained models for efficient medical data sharing. Results: The proposed method can compress tens of thousands of images into several soft-label images and reduce the size of a trained model to a few hundredths of its original size. The compressed images obtained after distillation have been visually anonymized; therefore, they do not contain the private information of the patients. Furthermore, we can realize high-detection performance with a small number of compressed images. Conclusions: The experimental results show that the proposed method can improve the efficiency and security of medical data sharing.

Sharing medical datasets between hospitals is challenging because of the privacy-protection problem and the massive cost of transmitting and storing many high-resolution medical images. However, dataset distillation can synthesize a small dataset such that models trained on it achieve comparable performance with the original large dataset, which shows potential for solving the existing medical sharing problems. Hence, this paper proposes a novel dataset distillation-based method for medical dataset sharing. Experimental results on a COVID-19 chest X-ray image dataset show that our method can achieve high detection performance even using scarce anonymized chest X-ray images.

OneVL: One-Step Latent Reasoning and Planning with Vision-Language ExplanationJinghui Lu, Jiayi Guan, Zhijian Huang et al.
Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning has become a powerful driver of trajectory prediction in VLA-based autonomous driving, yet its autoregressive nature imposes a latency cost that is prohibitive for real-time deployment. Latent CoT methods attempt to close this gap by compressing reasoning into continuous hidden states, but consistently fall short of their explicit counterparts. We suggest that this is due to purely linguistic latent representations compressing a symbolic abstraction of the world, rather than the causal dynamics that actually govern driving. Thus, we present OneVL (One-step latent reasoning and planning with Vision-Language explanations), a unified VLA and World Model framework that routes reasoning through compact latent tokens supervised by dual auxiliary decoders. Alongside a language decoder that reconstructs text CoT, we introduce a visual world model decoder that predicts future-frame tokens, forcing the latent space to internalize the causal dynamics of road geometry, agent motion, and environmental change. A three-stage training pipeline progressively aligns these latents with trajectory, language, and visual objectives, ensuring stable joint optimization. At inference, the auxiliary decoders are discarded and all latent tokens are prefilled in a single parallel pass, matching the speed of answer-only prediction. Across four benchmarks, OneVL becomes the first latent CoT method to surpass explicit CoT, delivering state-of-the-art accuracy at answer-only latency, and providing direct evidence that tighter compression, when guided in both language and world-model supervision, produces more generalizable representations than verbose token-by-token reasoning. Self-Knowledge Distillation based Self-Supervised Learning for Covid-19 Detection from Chest X-Ray ImagesGuang Li, Ren Togo, Takahiro Ogawa et al.
The global outbreak of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) has overloaded worldwide healthcare systems. Computer-aided diagnosis for COVID-19 fast detection and patient triage is becoming critical. This paper proposes a novel self-knowledge distillation based self-supervised learning method for COVID-19 detection from chest X-ray images. Our method can use self-knowledge of images based on similarities of their visual features for self-supervised learning. Experimental results show that our method achieved an HM score of 0.988, an AUC of 0.999, and an accuracy of 0.957 on the largest open COVID-19 chest X-ray dataset.

COVID-19 Detection Based on Self-Supervised Transfer Learning Using Chest X-Ray ImagesGuang Li, Ren Togo, Takahiro Ogawa et al.
Purpose: Considering several patients screened due to COVID-19 pandemic, computer-aided detection has strong potential in assisting clinical workflow efficiency and reducing the incidence of infections among radiologists and healthcare providers. Since many confirmed COVID-19 cases present radiological findings of pneumonia, radiologic examinations can be useful for fast detection. Therefore, chest radiography can be used to fast screen COVID-19 during the patient triage, thereby determining the priority of patient's care to help saturated medical facilities in a pandemic situation. Methods: In this paper, we propose a new learning scheme called self-supervised transfer learning for detecting COVID-19 from chest X-ray (CXR) images. We compared six self-supervised learning (SSL) methods (Cross, BYOL, SimSiam, SimCLR, PIRL-jigsaw, and PIRL-rotation) with the proposed method. Additionally, we compared six pretrained DCNNs (ResNet18, ResNet50, ResNet101, CheXNet, DenseNet201, and InceptionV3) with the proposed method. We provide quantitative evaluation on the largest open COVID-19 CXR dataset and qualitative results for visual inspection. Results: Our method achieved a harmonic mean (HM) score of 0.985, AUC of 0.999, and four-class accuracy of 0.953. We also used the visualization technique Grad-CAM++ to generate visual explanations of different classes of CXR images with the proposed method to increase the interpretability. Conclusions: Our method shows that the knowledge learned from natural images using transfer learning is beneficial for SSL of the CXR images and boosts the performance of representation learning for COVID-19 detection. Our method promises to reduce the incidence of infections among radiologists and healthcare providers.

The proposed method can synthesize more robust distilled datasets and improve distillation performance by pruning difficult-to-match parameters during the distillation process. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets show the superiority of the proposed method.

MeanFuser: Fast One-Step Multi-Modal Trajectory Generation and Adaptive Reconstruction via MeanFlow for End-to-End Autonomous DrivingJunli Wang, Xueyi Liu, Yinan Zheng et al.
Generative models have shown great potential in trajectory planning. Recent studies demonstrate that anchor-guided generative models are effective in modeling the uncertainty of driving behaviors and improving overall performance. However, these methods rely on discrete anchor vocabularies that must sufficiently cover the trajectory distribution during testing to ensure robustness, inducing an inherent trade-off between vocabulary size and model performance. To overcome this limitation, we propose MeanFuser, an end-to-end autonomous driving method that enhances both efficiency and robustness through three key designs. (1) We introduce Gaussian Mixture Noise (GMN) to guide generative sampling, enabling a continuous representation of the trajectory space and eliminating the dependency on discrete anchor vocabularies. (2) We adapt ``MeanFlow Identity" to end-to-end planning, which models the mean velocity field between GMN and trajectory distribution instead of the instantaneous velocity field used in vanilla flow matching methods, effectively eliminating numerical errors from ODE solvers and significantly accelerating inference. (3) We design a lightweight Adaptive Reconstruction Module (ARM) that enables the model to implicitly select from all sampled proposals or reconstruct a new trajectory when none is satisfactory via attention weights. Experiments on the NAVSIM closed-loop benchmark demonstrate that MeanFuser achieves outstanding performance without the supervision of the PDM Score. and exceptional inference efficiency, offering a robust and efficient solution for end-to-end autonomous driving. TriBYOL: Triplet BYOL for Self-Supervised Representation LearningGuang Li, Ren Togo, Takahiro Ogawa et al.
This paper proposes a novel self-supervised learning method for learning better representations with small batch sizes. Many self-supervised learning methods based on certain forms of the siamese network have emerged and received significant attention. However, these methods need to use large batch sizes to learn good representations and require heavy computational resources. We present a new triplet network combined with a triple-view loss to improve the performance of self-supervised representation learning with small batch sizes. Experimental results show that our method can drastically outperform state-of-the-art self-supervised learning methods on several datasets in small-batch cases. Our method provides a feasible solution for self-supervised learning with real-world high-resolution images that uses small batch sizes.

Boosting Automatic COVID-19 Detection Performance with Self-Supervised Learning and Batch Knowledge EnsemblingGuang Li, Ren Togo, Takahiro Ogawa et al.
Problem: Detecting COVID-19 from chest X-Ray (CXR) images has become one of the fastest and easiest methods for detecting COVID-19. However, the existing methods usually use supervised transfer learning from natural images as a pretraining process. These methods do not consider the unique features of COVID-19 and the similar features between COVID-19 and other pneumonia. Aim: In this paper, we want to design a novel high-accuracy COVID-19 detection method that uses CXR images, which can consider the unique features of COVID-19 and the similar features between COVID-19 and other pneumonia. Methods: Our method consists of two phases. One is self-supervised learning-based pertaining; the other is batch knowledge ensembling-based fine-tuning. Self-supervised learning-based pretraining can learn distinguished representations from CXR images without manually annotated labels. On the other hand, batch knowledge ensembling-based fine-tuning can utilize category knowledge of images in a batch according to their visual feature similarities to improve detection performance. Unlike our previous implementation, we introduce batch knowledge ensembling into the fine-tuning phase, reducing the memory used in self-supervised learning and improving COVID-19 detection accuracy. Results: On two public COVID-19 CXR datasets, namely, a large dataset and an unbalanced dataset, our method exhibited promising COVID-19 detection performance. Our method maintains high detection accuracy even when annotated CXR training images are reduced significantly (e.g., using only 10% of the original dataset). In addition, our method is insensitive to changes in hyperparameters.

Cross-domain Few-shot In-context Learning for Enhancing Traffic Sign RecognitionYaozong Gan, Guang Li, Ren Togo et al.
Recent multimodal large language models (MLLM) such as GPT-4o and GPT-4v have shown great potential in autonomous driving. In this paper, we propose a cross-domain few-shot in-context learning method based on the MLLM for enhancing traffic sign recognition (TSR). We first construct a traffic sign detection network based on Vision Transformer Adapter and an extraction module to extract traffic signs from the original road images. To reduce the dependence on training data and improve the performance stability of cross-country TSR, we introduce a cross-domain few-shot in-context learning method based on the MLLM. To enhance MLLM's fine-grained recognition ability of traffic signs, the proposed method generates corresponding description texts using template traffic signs. These description texts contain key information about the shape, color, and composition of traffic signs, which can stimulate the ability of MLLM to perceive fine-grained traffic sign categories. By using the description texts, our method reduces the cross-domain differences between template and real traffic signs. Our approach requires only simple and uniform textual indications, without the need for large-scale traffic sign images and labels. We perform comprehensive evaluations on the German traffic sign recognition benchmark dataset, the Belgium traffic sign dataset, and two real-world datasets taken from Japan. The experimental results show that our method significantly enhances the TSR performance.

Dataset complexity assessment aims to predict classification performance on a dataset with complexity calculation before training a classifier, which can also be used for classifier selection and dataset reduction. The training process of deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) is iterative and time-consuming because of hyperparameter uncertainty and the domain shift introduced by different datasets. Hence, it is meaningful to predict classification performance by assessing the complexity of datasets effectively before training DCNN models. This paper proposes a novel method called cumulative maximum scaled Area Under Laplacian Spectrum (cmsAULS), which can achieve state-of-the-art complexity assessment performance on six datasets.

Predictive but Not Plannable: RC-aux for Latent World ModelsWenyuan Li, Guang Li, Keisuke Maeda et al.
A latent world model may achieve accurate short-horizon prediction while still inducing a latent space that is poorly aligned with planning. A key issue is spatiotemporal mismatch: these models are often trained with local predictive supervision, but deployed for long-horizon goal-directed search in latent spaces where Euclidean distance may not reflect what is reachable within a finite action budget. We present the Reachability-Correction auxiliary objective (RC-aux), a lightweight correction for this mismatch in reconstruction-free latent world models. RC-aux keeps the world-model backbone unchanged and adds planning-aligned supervision along two axes. Along the time axis, multi-horizon open-loop prediction trains the model beyond one-step consistency. Along the space axis, budget-conditioned reachability supervision, together with temporal hard negatives, encourages the latent space to distinguish states that are eventually reachable from those reachable within the current planning horizon. At test time, the learned reachability signal can also be used by a reachability-aware planner to favor trajectories that are both goal-directed and attainable under the available budget. We instantiate RC-aux on LeWorldModel and evaluate it under both continuation-training and matched-from-scratch settings. Across goal-conditioned pixel-control tasks and a LIBERO-Goal extension, RC-aux improves LeWM-style planning with modest additional cost. These results suggest that planning with latent world models depends not only on predictive accuracy, but also on whether the learned representation encodes the temporal and geometric structure required by downstream search. FD$^2$: A Dedicated Framework for Fine-Grained Dataset DistillationHongxu Ma, Guang Li, Shijie Wang et al.
Dataset distillation (DD) compresses a large training set into a small synthetic set, reducing storage and training cost, and has shown strong results on general benchmarks. Decoupled DD further improves efficiency by splitting the pipeline into pretraining, sample distillation, and soft-label generation. However, existing decoupled methods largely rely on coarse class-label supervision and optimize samples within each class in a nearly identical manner. On fine-grained datasets, this often yields distilled samples that (i) retain large intra-class variation with subtle inter-class differences and (ii) become overly similar within the same class, limiting localized discriminative cues and hurting recognition. To solve the above-mentioned problems, we propose FD$^{2}$, a dedicated framework for Fine-grained Dataset Distillation. FD$^{2}$ localizes discriminative regions and constructs fine-grained representations for distillation. During pretraining, counterfactual attention learning aggregates discriminative representations to update class prototypes. During distillation, a fine-grained characteristic constraint aligns each sample with its class prototype while repelling others, and a similarity constraint diversifies attention across same-class samples. Experiments on multiple fine-grained and general datasets show that FD$^{2}$ integrates seamlessly with decoupled DD and improves performance in most settings, indicating strong transferability.

PerlAD: Towards Enhanced Closed-loop End-to-end Autonomous Driving with Pseudo-simulation-based Reinforcement LearningYinfeng Gao, Qichao Zhang, Deqing Liu et al.
End-to-end autonomous driving policies based on Imitation Learning (IL) often struggle in closed-loop execution due to the misalignment between inadequate open-loop training objectives and real driving requirements. While Reinforcement Learning (RL) offers a solution by directly optimizing driving goals via reward signals, the rendering-based training environments introduce the rendering gap and are inefficient due to high computational costs. To overcome these challenges, we present a novel Pseudo-simulation-based RL method for closed-loop end-to-end autonomous driving, PerlAD. Based on offline datasets, PerlAD constructs a pseudo-simulation that operates in vector space, enabling efficient, rendering-free trial-and-error training. To bridge the gap between static datasets and dynamic closed-loop environments, PerlAD introduces a prediction world model that generates reactive agent trajectories conditioned on the ego vehicle's plan. Furthermore, to facilitate efficient planning, PerlAD utilizes a hierarchical decoupled planner that combines IL for lateral path generation and RL for longitudinal speed optimization. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that PerlAD achieves state-of-the-art performance on the Bench2Drive benchmark, surpassing the previous E2E RL method by 10.29% in Driving Score without requiring expensive online interactions. Additional evaluations on the DOS benchmark further confirm its reliability in handling safety-critical occlusion scenarios.

Learning from Mistakes: Post-Training for Driving VLA with Takeover DataYinfeng Gao, Deqing Liu, Qichao Zhang et al.
Current Vision-Language-Action (VLA) paradigms in end-to-end autonomous driving rely on offline training from static datasets, leaving them vulnerable to distribution shift. Recent post-training methods use takeover data to mitigate this by augmenting the dataset with high-quality expert takeover samples, yet they suffer from two key limitations: supervision restricted to the period after the takeover moments leads to policies with limited safety margins, and passive preference optimization lacks active exploration for optimal performance. In this paper, we propose TakeVLA, a novel VLA post-training framework that overcomes these shortcomings through two complementary innovations. First, we introduce pre-takeover language supervision, which allows the VLA to learn from mistakes proactively. By explicitly teaching the model about what to do in error-prone situations, we cultivate a precautionary mindset that anticipates hazards early and substantially enlarges safety margins. Second, we propose Scenario Dreaming, a reinforcement fine-tuning paradigm that operates in reconstruceted takeover scenarios, encouraging active exploration beyond mere preference fitting. Experiments on the Bench2Drive benchmark demonstrate that TakeVLA achieves state-of-the-art closed-loop performance, surpassing the strong VLA baseline SimLingo by 4.93 in driving score, with an enhanced safety margin as evidenced by an 11.76% increase in average TTC.

Cross-domain Multi-step Thinking: Zero-shot Fine-grained Traffic Sign Recognition in the WildYaozong Gan, Guang Li, Ren Togo et al.
In this study, we propose Cross-domain Multi-step Thinking (CdMT) to improve zero-shot fine-grained traffic sign recognition (TSR) performance in the wild. Zero-shot fine-grained TSR in the wild is challenging due to the cross-domain problem between clean template traffic signs and real-world counterparts, and existing approaches particularly struggle with cross-country TSR scenarios, where traffic signs typically differ between countries. The proposed CdMT framework tackles these challenges by leveraging the multi-step reasoning capabilities of large multimodal models (LMMs). We introduce context, characteristic, and differential descriptions to design multiple thinking processes for LMMs. Context descriptions, which are enhanced by center coordinate prompt optimization, enable the precise localization of target traffic signs in complex road images and filter irrelevant responses via novel prior traffic sign hypotheses. Characteristic descriptions, which are derived from in-context learning with template traffic signs, bridge cross-domain gaps and enhance fine-grained TSR. Differential descriptions refine the multimodal reasoning ability of LMMs by distinguishing subtle differences among similar signs. CdMT is independent of training data and requires only simple and uniform instructions, enabling it to achieve cross-country TSR. We conducted extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets and two real-world datasets from different countries. The proposed CdMT framework achieved superior performance compared with other state-of-the-art methods on all five datasets, with recognition accuracies of 0.93, 0.89, 0.97, 0.89, and 0.85 on the GTSRB, BTSD, TT-100K, Sapporo, and Yokohama datasets, respectively.

RGMIM: Region-Guided Masked Image Modeling for Learning Meaningful Representations from X-Ray ImagesGuang Li, Ren Togo, Takahiro Ogawa et al.
In this study, we propose a novel method called region-guided masked image modeling (RGMIM) for learning meaningful representations from X-ray images. Our method adopts a new masking strategy that utilizes organ mask information to identify valid regions for learning more meaningful representations. We conduct quantitative evaluations on an open lung X-ray image dataset as well as masking ratio hyperparameter studies. When using the entire training set, RGMIM outperformed other comparable methods, achieving a 0.962 lung disease detection accuracy. Specifically, RGMIM significantly improved performance in small data volumes, such as 5% and 10% of the training set compared to other methods. RGMIM can mask more valid regions, facilitating the learning of discriminative representations and the subsequent high-accuracy lung disease detection. RGMIM outperforms other state-of-the-art self-supervised learning methods in experiments, particularly when limited training data is used.

Difficulty-guided Sampling: Bridging the Target Gap between Dataset Distillation and Downstream TasksMingzhuo Li, Guang Li, Linfeng Ye et al.
In this paper, we propose difficulty-guided sampling (DGS) to bridge the target gap between the distillation objective and the downstream task, therefore improving the performance of dataset distillation. Deep neural networks achieve remarkable performance but have time and storage-consuming training processes. Dataset distillation is proposed to generate compact, high-quality distilled datasets, enabling effective model training while maintaining downstream performance. Existing approaches typically focus on features extracted from the original dataset, overlooking task-specific information, which leads to a target gap between the distillation objective and the downstream task. We propose leveraging characteristics that benefit the downstream training into data distillation to bridge this gap. Focusing on the downstream task of image classification, we introduce the concept of difficulty and propose DGS as a plug-in post-stage sampling module. Following the specific target difficulty distribution, the final distilled dataset is sampled from image pools generated by existing methods. We also propose difficulty-aware guidance (DAG) to explore the effect of difficulty in the generation process. Extensive experiments across multiple settings demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods. It also highlights the broader potential of difficulty for diverse downstream tasks.

Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models scale neural networks by conditionally activating a small subset of experts, where the router plays a central role in determining expert specialization and overall model performance. However, many modern MoE systems still adopt linear routers in raw high-dimensional representation spaces, where representation mismatch, angular concentration, and scale-sensitive scoring can jointly undermine routing discriminability and stable expert specialization. In this work, we propose Low-rank \& Lipschitz-controlled Routing (L2R), a unified routing framework that reshapes both the routing space and scoring geometry. L2R performs expert assignment in a shared low-rank latent routing space and introduces Saturated Inner-Product Scoring (SIPS) to explicitly control the Lipschitz behavior of routing functions, yielding smoother and more stable routing geometry. In addition, L2R incorporates a parameter-efficient multi-anchor routing mechanism to enhance expert expressiveness. Extensive experiments on a large-scale language MoE model and a vision MoE setting on ImageNet demonstrate that L2R consistently improves routing stability, expert specialization, and overall model performance.

Otter: Mitigating Background Distractions of Wide-Angle Few-Shot Action Recognition with Enhanced RWKVWenbo Huang, Jinghui Zhang, Zhenghao Chen et al.
Wide-angle videos in few-shot action recognition (FSAR) effectively express actions within specific scenarios. However, without a global understanding of both subjects and background, recognizing actions in such samples remains challenging because of the background distractions. Receptance Weighted Key Value (RWKV), which learns interaction between various dimensions, shows promise for global modeling. While directly applying RWKV to wide-angle FSAR may fail to highlight subjects due to excessive background information. Additionally, temporal relation degraded by frames with similar backgrounds is difficult to reconstruct, further impacting performance. Therefore, we design the CompOund SegmenTation and Temporal REconstructing RWKV (Otter). Specifically, the Compound Segmentation Module~(CSM) is devised to segment and emphasize key patches in each frame, effectively highlighting subjects against background information. The Temporal Reconstruction Module (TRM) is incorporated into the temporal-enhanced prototype construction to enable bidirectional scanning, allowing better reconstruct temporal relation. Furthermore, a regular prototype is combined with the temporal-enhanced prototype to simultaneously enhance subject emphasis and temporal modeling, improving wide-angle FSAR performance. Extensive experiments on benchmarks such as SSv2, Kinetics, UCF101, and HMDB51 demonstrate that Otter achieves state-of-the-art performance. Extra evaluation on the VideoBadminton dataset further validates the superiority of Otter in wide-angle FSAR.

Privacy-Aware Continual Self-Supervised Learning on Multi-Window Chest Computed Tomography for Domain-Shift RobustnessRen Tasai, Guang Li, Ren Togo et al.
We propose a novel continual self-supervised learning (CSSL) framework for simultaneously learning diverse features from multi-window-obtained chest computed tomography (CT) images and ensuring data privacy. Achieving a robust and highly generalizable model in medical image diagnosis is challenging, mainly because of issues, such as the scarcity of large-scale, accurately annotated datasets and domain shifts inherent to dynamic healthcare environments. Specifically, in chest CT, these domain shifts often arise from differences in window settings, which are optimized for distinct clinical purposes. Previous CSSL frameworks often mitigated domain shift by reusing past data, a typically impractical approach owing to privacy constraints. Our approach addresses these challenges by effectively capturing the relationship between previously learned knowledge and new information across different training stages through continual pretraining on unlabeled images. Specifically, by incorporating a latent replay-based mechanism into CSSL, our method mitigates catastrophic forgetting due to domain shifts during continual pretraining while ensuring data privacy. Additionally, we introduce a feature distillation technique that integrates Wasserstein distance-based knowledge distillation (WKD) and batch-knowledge ensemble (BKE), enhancing the ability of the model to learn meaningful, domain-shift-robust representations. Finally, we validate our approach using chest CT images obtained across two different window settings, demonstrating superior performance compared with other approaches.

DriveFine: Refining-Augmented Masked Diffusion VLA for Precise and Robust DrivingChenxu Dang, Sining Ang, Yongkang Li et al.
Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models for autonomous driving increasingly adopt generative planners trained with imitation learning followed by reinforcement learning. Diffusion-based planners suffer from modality alignment difficulties, low training efficiency, and limited generalization. Token-based planners are plagued by cumulative causal errors and irreversible decoding. In summary, the two dominant paradigms exhibit complementary strengths and weaknesses. In this paper, we propose DriveFine, a masked diffusion VLA model that combines flexible decoding with self-correction capabilities. In particular, we design a novel plug-and-play block-MoE, which seamlessly injects a refinement expert on top of the generation expert. By enabling explicit expert selection during inference and gradient blocking during training, the two experts are fully decoupled, preserving the foundational capabilities and generic patterns of the pretrained weights, which highlights the flexibility and extensibility of the block-MoE design. Furthermore, we design a hybrid reinforcement learning strategy that encourages effective exploration of refinement expert while maintaining training stability. Extensive experiments on NAVSIM v1, v2, and Navhard benchmarks demonstrate that DriveFine exhibits strong efficacy and robustness. The code will be released at https://github.com/MSunDYY/DriveFine.

PainSeeker: An Automated Method for Assessing Pain in Rats Through Facial ExpressionsLiu Liu, Guang Li, Dingfan Deng et al.
In this letter, we aim to investigate whether laboratory rats' pain can be automatically assessed through their facial expressions. To this end, we began by presenting a publicly available dataset called RatsPain, consisting of 1,138 facial images captured from six rats that underwent an orthodontic treatment operation. Each rat' facial images in RatsPain were carefully selected from videos recorded either before or after the operation and well labeled by eight annotators according to the Rat Grimace Scale (RGS). We then proposed a novel deep learning method called PainSeeker for automatically assessing pain in rats via facial expressions. PainSeeker aims to seek pain-related facial local regions that facilitate learning both pain discriminative and head pose robust features from facial expression images. To evaluate the PainSeeker, we conducted extensive experiments on the RatsPain dataset. The results demonstrate the feasibility of assessing rats' pain from their facial expressions and also verify the effectiveness of the proposed PainSeeker in addressing this emerging but intriguing problem. AgentThink: A Unified Framework for Tool-Augmented Chain-of-Thought Reasoning in Vision-Language Models for Autonomous DrivingKangan Qian, Sicong Jiang, Yang Zhong et al. · tsinghua
Vision-Language Models (VLMs) show promise for autonomous driving, yet their struggle with hallucinations, inefficient reasoning, and limited real-world validation hinders accurate perception and robust step-by-step reasoning. To overcome this, we introduce \textbf{AgentThink}, a pioneering unified framework that integrates Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning with dynamic, agent-style tool invocation for autonomous driving tasks. AgentThink's core innovations include: \textbf{(i) Structured Data Generation}, which establishes an autonomous driving tool library to automatically construct structured, self-verified reasoning data explicitly incorporating tool usage for diverse driving scenarios; \textbf{(ii) A Two-stage Training Pipeline}, employing Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) with Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) to equip VLMs with the capability for autonomous tool invocation; and \textbf{(iii) Agent-style Tool-Usage Evaluation}, introducing a novel multi-tool assessment protocol to rigorously evaluate the model's tool invocation and utilization. Experiments on the DriveLMM-o1 benchmark demonstrate that AgentThink significantly boosts overall reasoning scores by \textbf{53.91%} and enhances answer accuracy by \textbf{33.54%}, while markedly improving reasoning quality and consistency. Furthermore, ablation studies and robust zero-shot/few-shot generalization experiments across various benchmarks underscore its powerful capabilities. SAS: Semantic-aware Sampling for Generative Dataset DistillationMingzhuo Li, Guang Li, Linfeng Ye et al.
Deep neural networks have achieved impressive performance across a wide range of tasks, but this success often comes with substantial computational and storage costs due to large-scale training data. Dataset distillation addresses this challenge by constructing compact yet informative datasets that enable efficient model training while maintaining downstream performance. However, most existing approaches primarily emphasize matching data distributions or downstream training statistics, with limited attention to preserving high-level semantic information in the distilled data. In this work, we introduce a semantic-aware perspective for dataset distillation by leveraging Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) as a semantic prior for post-sampling. Our goal is to obtain distilled datasets that are not only compact but also semantically class-discriminative and diverse. To this end, we design three semantic scoring functions that quantify class relevance, inter-class separability, and intra-set diversity in a pretrained semantic space. Based on image pools generated by existing distillation methods, we further develop a two-stage strategy for effective sampling: the first stage filters semantically discriminative samples to form a reliable candidate set, and the second stage performs a dynamic diversity-aware selection to reduce redundancy while preserving semantic coverage. Extensive experiments across multiple datasets, image pools, and downstream models demonstrate consistent performance gains, highlighting the effectiveness of incorporating semantic information into dataset distillation.

SIMPLER: H&E-Informed Representation Learning for Structured Illumination MicroscopyAbu Zahid Bin Aziz, Syed Fahim Ahmed, Gnanesh Rasineni et al.
Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM) enables rapid, high-contrast optical sectioning of fresh tissue without staining or physical sectioning, making it promising for intraoperative and point-of-care diagnostics. Recent foundation and large-scale self-supervised models in digital pathology have demonstrated strong performance on section-based modalities such as Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) and immunohistochemistry (IHC). However, these approaches are predominantly trained on thin tissue sections and do not explicitly address thick-tissue fluorescence modalities such as SIM. When transferred directly to SIM, performance is constrained by substantial modality shift, and naive fine-tuning often overfits to modality-specific appearance rather than underlying histological structure. We introduce SIMPLER (Structured Illumination Microscopy-Powered Learning for Embedding Representations), a cross-modality self-supervised pretraining framework that leverages H&E as a semantic anchor to learn reusable SIM representations. H&E encodes rich cellular and glandular structure aligned with established clinical annotations, while SIM provides rapid, nondestructive imaging of fresh tissue. During pretraining, SIM and H&E are progressively aligned through adversarial, contrastive, and reconstruction-based objectives, encouraging SIM embeddings to internalize histological structure from H&E without collapsing modality-specific characteristics. A single pretrained SIMPLER encoder transfers across multiple downstream tasks, including multiple instance learning and morphological clustering, consistently outperforming SIM models trained from scratch or H&E-only pretraining. TrajMoE: Scene-Adaptive Trajectory Planning with Mixture of Experts and Reinforcement LearningZebin Xing, Pengxuan Yang, Linbo Wang et al.
Current autonomous driving systems often favor end-to-end frameworks, which take sensor inputs like images and learn to map them into trajectory space via neural networks. Previous work has demonstrated that models can achieve better planning performance when provided with a prior distribution of possible trajectories. However, these approaches often overlook two critical aspects: 1) The appropriate trajectory prior can vary significantly across different driving scenarios. 2) Their trajectory evaluation mechanism lacks policy-driven refinement, remaining constrained by the limitations of one-stage supervised training. To address these issues, we explore improvements in two key areas. For problem 1, we employ MoE to apply different trajectory priors tailored to different scenarios. For problem 2, we utilize Reinforcement Learning to fine-tune the trajectory scoring mechanism. Additionally, we integrate models with different perception backbones to enhance perceptual features. Our integrated model achieved a score of 51.08 on the navsim ICCV benchmark, securing third place.

VGGDrive: Empowering Vision-Language Models with Cross-View Geometric Grounding for Autonomous DrivingJie Wang, Guang Li, Zhijian Huang et al.
The significance of cross-view 3D geometric modeling capabilities for autonomous driving is self-evident, yet existing Vision-Language Models (VLMs) inherently lack this capability, resulting in their mediocre performance. While some promising approaches attempt to mitigate this by constructing Q&A data for auxiliary training, they still fail to fundamentally equip VLMs with the ability to comprehensively handle diverse evaluation protocols. We thus chart a new course, advocating for the infusion of VLMs with the cross-view geometric grounding of mature 3D foundation models, closing this critical capability gap in autonomous driving. In this spirit, we propose a novel architecture, VGGDrive, which empowers Vision-language models with cross-view Geometric Grounding for autonomous Driving. Concretely, to bridge the cross-view 3D geometric features from the frozen visual 3D model with the VLM's 2D visual features, we introduce a plug-and-play Cross-View 3D Geometric Enabler (CVGE). The CVGE decouples the base VLM architecture and effectively empowers the VLM with 3D features through a hierarchical adaptive injection mechanism. Extensive experiments show that VGGDrive enhances base VLM performance across five autonomous driving benchmarks, including tasks like cross-view risk perception, motion prediction, and trajectory planning. It's our belief that mature 3D foundation models can empower autonomous driving tasks through effective integration, and we hope our initial exploration demonstrates the potential of this paradigm to the autonomous driving community.

Hyperbolic Dataset DistillationWenyuan Li, Guang Li, Keisuke Maeda et al.
To address the computational and storage challenges posed by large-scale datasets in deep learning, dataset distillation has been proposed to synthesize a compact dataset that replaces the original while maintaining comparable model performance. Unlike optimization-based approaches that require costly bi-level optimization, distribution matching (DM) methods improve efficiency by aligning the distributions of synthetic and original data, thereby eliminating nested optimization. DM achieves high computational efficiency and has emerged as a promising solution. However, existing DM methods, constrained to Euclidean space, treat data as independent and identically distributed points, overlooking complex geometric and hierarchical relationships. To overcome this limitation, we propose a novel hyperbolic dataset distillation method, termed HDD. Hyperbolic space, characterized by negative curvature and exponential volume growth with distance, naturally models hierarchical and tree-like structures. HDD embeds features extracted by a shallow network into the Lorentz hyperbolic space, where the discrepancy between synthetic and original data is measured by the hyperbolic (geodesic) distance between their centroids. By optimizing this distance, the hierarchical structure is explicitly integrated into the distillation process, guiding synthetic samples to gravitate towards the root-centric regions of the original data distribution while preserving their underlying geometric characteristics. Furthermore, we find that pruning in hyperbolic space requires only 20% of the distilled core set to retain model performance, while significantly improving training stability. Beyond What to Select: A Plug-and-play Oscillatory Data-Volume Scheduling for Efficient Model TrainingSuorong Yang, Hanqi Zhu, Hai Gan et al.
Data selection accelerates training by identifying representative training data while preserving model performance. However, existing methods mainly focus on designing sample-importance criteria, i.e., deciding what to select, while typically fixing the selected data volume as the target ratio throughout training. Thus, they are often dynamic in sample identity but static in data volume. In this work, we revisit data selection from an optimization perspective and show that selected-data training induces an implicit regularization effect modulated by the instantaneous selection ratio. This reveals a key trade-off: lower ratios amplify selection-induced regularization, whereas higher ratios preserve data coverage and optimization fidelity. Motivated by this insight, we propose PODS, a Plug-and-play Oscillatory Data-volume Scheduling framework. Rather than introducing another sample-scoring metric, PODS serves as a lightweight module that dynamically schedules how much data to select over training. Under the target selection ratio, PODS alternates between low-ratio regularization phases and high-ratio recovery phases to exploit selection-induced regularization without sacrificing optimization stability. With its lightweight, ratio-level, and task-agnostic design, PODS is compatible with existing static and dynamic selection methods and broadly applicable across training paradigms. Experiments across various datasets, architectures, and tasks show that PODS consistently improves the efficiency-generalization trade-off, e.g., reducing ImageNet-1k training cost by 50% with improved accuracy and accelerating LLM instruction tuning by over 2x without performance degradation.

Dataset Distillation via Vision-Language Category PrototypeYawen Zou, Guang Li, Duo Su et al.
Dataset distillation (DD) condenses large datasets into compact yet informative substitutes, preserving performance comparable to the original dataset while reducing storage, transmission costs, and computational consumption. However, previous DD methods mainly focus on distilling information from images, often overlooking the semantic information inherent in the data. The disregard for context hinders the model's generalization ability, particularly in tasks involving complex datasets, which may result in illogical outputs or the omission of critical objects. In this study, we integrate vision-language methods into DD by introducing text prototypes to distill language information and collaboratively synthesize data with image prototypes, thereby enhancing dataset distillation performance. Notably, the text prototypes utilized in this study are derived from descriptive text information generated by an open-source large language model. This framework demonstrates broad applicability across datasets without pre-existing text descriptions, expanding the potential of dataset distillation beyond traditional image-based approaches. Compared to other methods, the proposed approach generates logically coherent images containing target objects, achieving state-of-the-art validation performance and demonstrating robust generalization. SALIENT: Frequency-Aware Paired Diffusion for Controllable Long-Tail CT DetectionYifan Li, Mehrdad Salimitari, Taiyu Zhang et al.
Detection of rare lesions in whole-body CT is fundamentally limited by extreme class imbalance and low target-to-volume ratios, producing precision collapse despite high AUROC. Synthetic augmentation with diffusion models offers promise, yet pixel-space diffusion is computationally expensive, and existing mask-conditioned approaches lack controllable attribute-level regulation and paired supervision for accountable training. We introduce SALIENT, a mask-conditioned wavelet-domain diffusion framework that synthesizes paired lesion-masking volumes for controllable CT augmentation under long-tail regimes. Instead of denoising in pixel space, SALIENT performs structured diffusion over discrete wavelet coefficients, explicitly separating low-frequency brightness from high-frequency structural detail. Learnable frequency-aware objectives disentangle target and background attributes (structure, contrast, edge fidelity), enabling interpretable and stable optimization. A 3D VAE generates diverse volumetric lesion masks, and a semi-supervised teacher produces paired slice-level pseudo-labels for downstream mask-guided detection. SALIENT improves generative realism, as reflected by higher MS-SSIM (0.63 to 0.83) and lower FID (118.4 to 46.5). In a separate downstream evaluation, SALIENT-augmented training improves long-tail detection performance, yielding disproportionate AUPRC gains across low prevalences and target-to-volume ratios. Optimal synthetic ratios shift from 2x to 4x as labeled seed size decreases, indicating a seed-dependent augmentation regime under low-label conditions. SALIENT demonstrates that frequency-aware diffusion enables controllable, computationally efficient precision rescue in long-tail CT detection.

Task-Specific Generative Dataset Distillation with Difficulty-Guided SamplingMingzhuo Li, Guang Li, Jiafeng Mao et al.
To alleviate the reliance of deep neural networks on large-scale datasets, dataset distillation aims to generate compact, high-quality synthetic datasets that can achieve comparable performance to the original dataset. The integration of generative models has significantly advanced this field. However, existing approaches primarily focus on aligning the distilled dataset with the original one, often overlooking task-specific information that can be critical for optimal downstream performance. In this paper, focusing on the downstream task of classification, we propose a task-specific sampling strategy for generative dataset distillation that incorporates the concept of difficulty to consider the requirements of the target task better. The final dataset is sampled from a larger image pool with a sampling distribution obtained by matching the difficulty distribution of the original dataset. A logarithmic transformation is applied as a pre-processing step to correct for distributional bias. The results of extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method and suggest its potential for enhancing performance on other downstream tasks. Reliable Multi-modal Medical Image-to-image Translation Independent of Pixel-wise Aligned DataLangrui Zhou, Guang Li
The current mainstream multi-modal medical image-to-image translation methods face a contradiction. Supervised methods with outstanding performance rely on pixel-wise aligned training data to constrain the model optimization. However, obtaining pixel-wise aligned multi-modal medical image datasets is challenging. Unsupervised methods can be trained without paired data, but their reliability cannot be guaranteed. At present, there is no ideal multi-modal medical image-to-image translation method that can generate reliable translation results without the need for pixel-wise aligned data. This work aims to develop a novel medical image-to-image translation model that is independent of pixel-wise aligned data (MITIA), enabling reliable multi-modal medical image-to-image translation under the condition of misaligned training data. The proposed MITIA model utilizes a prior extraction network composed of a multi-modal medical image registration module and a multi-modal misalignment error detection module to extract pixel-level prior information from training data with misalignment errors to the largest extent. The extracted prior information is then used to construct a regularization term to constrain the optimization of the unsupervised cycle-consistent GAN model, restricting its solution space and thereby improving the performance and reliability of the generator. We trained the MITIA model using six datasets containing different misalignment errors and two well-aligned datasets. Subsequently, we compared the proposed method with six other state-of-the-art image-to-image translation methods. The results of both quantitative analysis and qualitative visual inspection indicate that MITIA achieves superior performance compared to the competing state-of-the-art methods, both on misaligned data and aligned data.

EVLF: Early Vision-Language Fusion for Generative Dataset DistillationWenqi Cai, Yawen Zou, Guang Li et al.
Dataset distillation (DD) aims to synthesize compact training sets that enable models to achieve high accuracy with significantly fewer samples. Recent diffusion-based DD methods commonly introduce semantic guidance through late-stage cross-attention, where textual prompts tend to dominate the generative process. Although this strategy enforces label relevance, it diminishes the contribution of visual latents, resulting in over-corrected samples that mirror prompt patterns rather than reflecting intrinsic visual features. To solve this problem, we introduce an Early Vision-Language Fusion (EVLF) method that aligns textual and visual embeddings at the transition between the encoder and the generative backbone. By incorporating a lightweight cross-attention module at this transition, the early representations simultaneously encode local textures and global semantic directions across the denoising process. Importantly, EVLF is plug-and-play and can be easily integrated into any diffusion-based dataset distillation pipeline with an encoder. It works across different denoiser architectures and sampling schedules without any task-specific modifications. Extensive experiments demonstrate that EVLF generates semantically faithful and visually coherent synthetic data, yielding consistent improvements in downstream classification accuracy across varied settings. MiMo-Embodied: X-Embodied Foundation Model Technical ReportXiaoshuai Hao, Lei Zhou, Zhijian Huang et al.
We open-source MiMo-Embodied, the first cross-embodied foundation model to successfully integrate and achieve state-of-the-art performance in both Autonomous Driving and Embodied AI. MiMo-Embodied sets new records across 17 embodied AI benchmarks in Task Planning, Affordance Prediction and Spatial Understanding, while also excelling in 12 autonomous driving benchmarks across Environmental Perception, Status Prediction, and Driving Planning. Across these tasks, MiMo-Embodied significantly outperforms existing open-source, closed-source, and specialized baselines. Our results indicate that through multi-stage learning, curated data construction, and CoT/RL fine-tuning, these two domains exhibit strong positive transfer and mutually reinforce one another. Dataset Condensation with Color CompensationHuyu Wu, Duo Su, Junjie Hou et al.
Dataset condensation always faces a constitutive trade-off: balancing performance and fidelity under extreme compression. Existing methods struggle with two bottlenecks: image-level selection methods (Coreset Selection, Dataset Quantization) suffer from inefficiency condensation, while pixel-level optimization (Dataset Distillation) introduces semantic distortion due to over-parameterization. With empirical observations, we find that a critical problem in dataset condensation is the oversight of color's dual role as an information carrier and a basic semantic representation unit. We argue that improving the colorfulness of condensed images is beneficial for representation learning. Motivated by this, we propose DC3: a Dataset Condensation framework with Color Compensation. After a calibrated selection strategy, DC3 utilizes the latent diffusion model to enhance the color diversity of an image rather than creating a brand-new one. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance and generalization of DC3 that outperforms SOTA methods across multiple benchmarks. To the best of our knowledge, besides focusing on downstream tasks, DC3 is the first research to fine-tune pre-trained diffusion models with condensed datasets. The Frechet Inception Distance (FID) and Inception Score (IS) results prove that training networks with our high-quality datasets is feasible without model collapse or other degradation issues. Closed-Form Linear-Probe Dataset Distillation for Pre-trained Vision ModelsBincheng Peng, Guang Li, Ping Liu et al.
Dataset distillation compresses a large training set into a small synthetic set that preserves downstream training utility. While most existing methods target training networks from scratch, modern visual transfer learning often uses frozen pre-trained encoders followed by lightweight linear probing. Existing distillation methods for this setting either unroll iterative linear-probe updates with trajectory-based gradient matching, or rely on closed-form formulations originally designed for from-scratch training with neural-tangent-kernel (NTK) approximations. Neither route exploits the fact that frozen-feature linear probing admits a closed-form solution determined directly by the pre-trained features themselves, with no infinite-width approximation and no inner-loop trajectory. We propose Closed-Form Linear-Probe Dataset Distillation (CLP-DD), a bilevel formulation that computes the linear probe induced by the synthetic set with a sample-space kernel ridge solver. The synthetic images are then updated by evaluating this induced classifier on real features through a temperature-scaled softmax cross-entropy, where the classifier columns act as learned class anchors in feature space. We further show that the choice of outer objective is decisive: pairing the closed-form inner solver with a standard MSE outer loss substantially underperforms trajectory-based methods, while the discriminative outer loss closes most of the gap. On ImageNet-100 with four pre-trained backbones, CLP-DD substantially improves over LGM without DSA and approaches LGM with DSA at a fraction of the computational cost. On ImageNet-1K, CLP-DD matches or surpasses LGM with DSA on three of four backbones while running roughly $14\times$ faster and using less than one-eighth of the GPU memory.

Importance-Aware Adaptive Dataset DistillationGuang Li, Ren Togo, Takahiro Ogawa et al.
Herein, we propose a novel dataset distillation method for constructing small informative datasets that preserve the information of the large original datasets. The development of deep learning models is enabled by the availability of large-scale datasets. Despite unprecedented success, large-scale datasets considerably increase the storage and transmission costs, resulting in a cumbersome model training process. Moreover, using raw data for training raises privacy and copyright concerns. To address these issues, a new task named dataset distillation has been introduced, aiming to synthesize a compact dataset that retains the essential information from the large original dataset. State-of-the-art (SOTA) dataset distillation methods have been proposed by matching gradients or network parameters obtained during training on real and synthetic datasets. The contribution of different network parameters to the distillation process varies, and uniformly treating them leads to degraded distillation performance. Based on this observation, we propose an importance-aware adaptive dataset distillation (IADD) method that can improve distillation performance by automatically assigning importance weights to different network parameters during distillation, thereby synthesizing more robust distilled datasets. IADD demonstrates superior performance over other SOTA dataset distillation methods based on parameter matching on multiple benchmark datasets and outperforms them in terms of cross-architecture generalization. In addition, the analysis of self-adaptive weights demonstrates the effectiveness of IADD. Furthermore, the effectiveness of IADD is validated in a real-world medical application such as COVID-19 detection.

Generative Dataset Distillation: Balancing Global Structure and Local DetailsLongzhen Li, Guang Li, Ren Togo et al.
In this paper, we propose a new dataset distillation method that considers balancing global structure and local details when distilling the information from a large dataset into a generative model. Dataset distillation has been proposed to reduce the size of the required dataset when training models. The conventional dataset distillation methods face the problem of long redeployment time and poor cross-architecture performance. Moreover, previous methods focused too much on the high-level semantic attributes between the synthetic dataset and the original dataset while ignoring the local features such as texture and shape. Based on the above understanding, we propose a new method for distilling the original image dataset into a generative model. Our method involves using a conditional generative adversarial network to generate the distilled dataset. Subsequently, we ensure balancing global structure and local details in the distillation process, continuously optimizing the generator for more information-dense dataset generation.

DD-Ranking: Rethinking the Evaluation of Dataset DistillationZekai Li, Xinhao Zhong, Samir Khaki et al.
In recent years, dataset distillation has provided a reliable solution for data compression, where models trained on the resulting smaller synthetic datasets achieve performance comparable to those trained on the original datasets. To further improve the performance of synthetic datasets, various training pipelines and optimization objectives have been proposed, greatly advancing the field of dataset distillation. Recent decoupled dataset distillation methods introduce soft labels and stronger data augmentation during the post-evaluation phase and scale dataset distillation up to larger datasets (e.g., ImageNet-1K). However, this raises a question: Is accuracy still a reliable metric to fairly evaluate dataset distillation methods? Our empirical findings suggest that the performance improvements of these methods often stem from additional techniques rather than the inherent quality of the images themselves, with even randomly sampled images achieving superior results. Such misaligned evaluation settings severely hinder the development of DD. Therefore, we propose DD-Ranking, a unified evaluation framework, along with new general evaluation metrics to uncover the true performance improvements achieved by different methods. By refocusing on the actual information enhancement of distilled datasets, DD-Ranking provides a more comprehensive and fair evaluation standard for future research advancements.

The future of UAV interaction systems is evolving from engineer-driven to user-driven, aiming to replace traditional predefined Human-UAV Interaction designs. This shift focuses on enabling more personalized task planning and design, thereby achieving a higher quality of interaction experience and greater flexibility, which can be used in many fileds, such as agriculture, aerial photography, logistics, and environmental monitoring. However, due to the lack of a common language between users and the UAVs, such interactions are often difficult to be achieved. The developments of Large Language Models possess the ability to understand nature languages and Robots' (UAVs') behaviors, marking the possibility of personalized Human-UAV Interaction. Recently, some HUI frameworks based on LLMs have been proposed, but they commonly suffer from difficulties in mixed task planning and execution, leading to low adaptability in complex scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel dual-agent HUI framework. This framework constructs two independent LLM agents (a task planning agent, and an execution agent) and applies different Prompt Engineering to separately handle the understanding, planning, and execution of tasks. To verify the effectiveness and performance of the framework, we have built a task database covering four typical application scenarios of UAVs and quantified the performance of the HUI framework using three independent metrics. Meanwhile different LLM models are selected to control the UAVs with compared performance. Our user study experimental results demonstrate that the framework improves the smoothness of HUI and the flexibility of task execution in the tasks scenario we set up, effectively meeting users' personalized needs.

Generative Dataset Distillation Based on Self-knowledge DistillationLongzhen Li, Guang Li, Ren Togo et al.
Dataset distillation is an effective technique for reducing the cost and complexity of model training while maintaining performance by compressing large datasets into smaller, more efficient versions. In this paper, we present a novel generative dataset distillation method that can improve the accuracy of aligning prediction logits. Our approach integrates self-knowledge distillation to achieve more precise distribution matching between the synthetic and original data, thereby capturing the overall structure and relationships within the data. To further improve the accuracy of alignment, we introduce a standardization step on the logits before performing distribution matching, ensuring consistency in the range of logits. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods, resulting in superior distillation performance.

Manta: Enhancing Mamba for Few-Shot Action Recognition of Long Sub-SequenceWenbo Huang, Jinghui Zhang, Guang Li et al.
In few-shot action recognition (FSAR), long sub-sequences of video naturally express entire actions more effectively. However, the high computational complexity of mainstream Transformer-based methods limits their application. Recent Mamba demonstrates efficiency in modeling long sequences, but directly applying Mamba to FSAR overlooks the importance of local feature modeling and alignment. Moreover, long sub-sequences within the same class accumulate intra-class variance, which adversely impacts FSAR performance. To solve these challenges, we propose a Matryoshka MAmba and CoNtrasTive LeArning framework (Manta). Firstly, the Matryoshka Mamba introduces multiple Inner Modules to enhance local feature representation, rather than directly modeling global features. An Outer Module captures dependencies of timeline between these local features for implicit temporal alignment. Secondly, a hybrid contrastive learning paradigm, combining both supervised and unsupervised methods, is designed to mitigate the negative effects of intra-class variance accumulation. The Matryoshka Mamba and the hybrid contrastive learning paradigm operate in two parallel branches within Manta, enhancing Mamba for FSAR of long sub-sequence. Manta achieves new state-of-the-art performance on prominent benchmarks, including SSv2, Kinetics, UCF101, and HMDB51. Extensive empirical studies prove that Manta significantly improves FSAR of long sub-sequence from multiple perspectives.

Continual Self-supervised Learning Considering Medical Domain Knowledge in Chest CT ImagesRen Tasai, Guang Li, Ren Togo et al.
We propose a novel continual self-supervised learning method (CSSL) considering medical domain knowledge in chest CT images. Our approach addresses the challenge of sequential learning by effectively capturing the relationship between previously learned knowledge and new information at different stages. By incorporating an enhanced DER into CSSL and maintaining both diversity and representativeness within the rehearsal buffer of DER, the risk of data interference during pretraining is reduced, enabling the model to learn more richer and robust feature representations. In addition, we incorporate a mixup strategy and feature distillation to further enhance the model's ability to learn meaningful representations. We validate our method using chest CT images obtained under two different imaging conditions, demonstrating superior performance compared to state-of-the-art methods.

SOMTP: Self-Supervised Learning-Based Optimizer for MPC-Based Safe Trajectory Planning Problems in RoboticsYifan Liu, You Wang, Guang Li
Model Predictive Control (MPC)-based trajectory planning has been widely used in robotics, and incorporating Control Barrier Function (CBF) constraints into MPC can greatly improve its obstacle avoidance efficiency. Unfortunately, traditional optimizers are resource-consuming and slow to solve such non-convex constrained optimization problems (COPs) while learning-based methods struggle to satisfy the non-convex constraints. In this paper, we propose SOMTP algorithm, a self-supervised learning-based optimizer for CBF-MPC trajectory planning. Specifically, first, SOMTP employs problem transcription to satisfy most of the constraints. Then the differentiable SLPG correction is proposed to move the solution closer to the safe set and is then converted as the guide policy in the following training process. After that, inspired by the Augmented Lagrangian Method (ALM), our training algorithm integrated with guide policy constraints is proposed to enable the optimizer network to converge to a feasible solution. Finally, experiments show that the proposed algorithm has better feasibility than other learning-based methods and can provide solutions much faster than traditional optimizers with similar optimality.

Information-Guided Diffusion Sampling for Dataset DistillationLinfeng Ye, Shayan Mohajer Hamidi, Guang Li et al.
Dataset distillation aims to create a compact dataset that retains essential information while maintaining model performance. Diffusion models (DMs) have shown promise for this task but struggle in low images-per-class (IPC) settings, where generated samples lack diversity. In this paper, we address this issue from an information-theoretic perspective by identifying two key types of information that a distilled dataset must preserve: ($i$) prototype information $\mathrm{I}(X;Y)$, which captures label-relevant features; and ($ii$) contextual information $\mathrm{H}(X | Y)$, which preserves intra-class variability. Here, $(X,Y)$ represents the pair of random variables corresponding to the input data and its ground truth label, respectively. Observing that the required contextual information scales with IPC, we propose maximizing $\mathrm{I}(X;Y) + β\mathrm{H}(X | Y)$ during the DM sampling process, where $β$ is IPC-dependent. Since directly computing $\mathrm{I}(X;Y)$ and $\mathrm{H}(X | Y)$ is intractable, we develop variational estimations to tightly lower-bound these quantities via a data-driven approach. Our approach, information-guided diffusion sampling (IGDS), seamlessly integrates with diffusion models and improves dataset distillation across all IPC settings. Experiments on Tiny ImageNet and ImageNet subsets show that IGDS significantly outperforms existing methods, particularly in low-IPC regimes. The code will be released upon acceptance.
