Zero-Shot 3D Shape Correspondence

We propose a novel zero-shot approach to computing correspondences between 3D shapes. Existing approaches mainly focus on isometric and near-isometric shape pairs (e.g., human vs. human), but less attention has been given to strongly non-isometric and inter-class shape matching (e.g., human vs. cow). To this end, we introduce a fully automatic method that exploits the exceptional reasoning capabilities of recent foundation models in language and vision to tackle difficult shape correspondence problems. Our approach comprises multiple stages. First, we classify the 3D shapes in a zero-shot manner by feeding rendered shape views to a language-vision model (e.g., BLIP2) to generate a list of class proposals per shape. These proposals are unified into a single class per shape by employing the reasoning capabilities of ChatGPT. Second, we attempt to segment the two shapes in a zero-shot manner, but in contrast to the co-segmentation problem, we do not require a mutual set of semantic regions. Instead, we propose to exploit the in-context learning capabilities of ChatGPT to generate two different sets of semantic regions for each shape and a semantic mapping between them. This enables our approach to match strongly non-isometric shapes with significant differences in geometric structure. Finally, we employ the generated semantic mapping to produce coarse correspondences that can further be refined by the functional maps framework to produce dense point-to-point maps. Our approach, despite its simplicity, produces highly plausible results in a zero-shot manner, especially between strongly non-isometric shapes. Hinge-Wasserstein: Estimating Multimodal Aleatoric Uncertainty in Regression Tasks

Computer vision systems that are deployed in safety-critical applications need to quantify their output uncertainty. We study regression from images to parameter values and here it is common to detect uncertainty by predicting probability distributions. In this context, we investigate the regression-by-classification paradigm which can represent multimodal distributions, without a prior assumption on the number of modes. Through experiments on a specifically designed synthetic dataset, we demonstrate that traditional loss functions lead to poor probability distribution estimates and severe overconfidence, in the absence of full ground truth distributions. In order to alleviate these issues, we propose hinge-Wasserstein -- a simple improvement of the Wasserstein loss that reduces the penalty for weak secondary modes during training. This enables prediction of complex distributions with multiple modes, and allows training on datasets where full ground truth distributions are not available. In extensive experiments, we show that the proposed loss leads to substantially better uncertainty estimation on two challenging computer vision tasks: horizon line detection and stereo disparity estimation.

Build-A-Scene: Interactive 3D Layout Control for Diffusion-Based Image Generation

We propose a diffusion-based approach for Text-to-Image (T2I) generation with interactive 3D layout control. Layout control has been widely studied to alleviate the shortcomings of T2I diffusion models in understanding objects' placement and relationships from text descriptions. Nevertheless, existing approaches for layout control are limited to 2D layouts, require the user to provide a static layout beforehand, and fail to preserve generated images under layout changes. This makes these approaches unsuitable for applications that require 3D object-wise control and iterative refinements, e.g., interior design and complex scene generation. To this end, we leverage the recent advancements in depth-conditioned T2I models and propose a novel approach for interactive 3D layout control. We replace the traditional 2D boxes used in layout control with 3D boxes. Furthermore, we revamp the T2I task as a multi-stage generation process, where at each stage, the user can insert, change, and move an object in 3D while preserving objects from earlier stages. We achieve this through our proposed Dynamic Self-Attention (DSA) module and the consistent 3D object translation strategy. Experiments show that our approach can generate complicated scenes based on 3D layouts, boosting the object generation success rate over the standard depth-conditioned T2I methods by 2x. CounterCount: A Diagnostic Framework for Counting Bias in Vision Language Models

Vision-Language Models (VLMs) excel at multimodal reasoning, yet it remains unclear whether their answers are grounded in visual evidence or driven by learned language and world priors. Counting provides a precise testbed: when visual evidence conflicts with canonical object knowledge, a model must rely on the image rather than a prototypical count. We introduce CounterCount, a diagnostic framework for counterfactual counting in VLMs, consisting of paired factual and counterfactual images with edited count-relevant attributes, verified answers, and localized evidence annotations. Evaluating recent VLMs, we find strong performance on factual images but consistent degradation under counterfactual attribute changes, indicating reliance on object-level priors even when contradictory visual evidence is present. Using localized annotations, we show that these failures are not solely due to missing or ambiguous visual evidence, but to models underweighting attention to count-relevant visual tokens. We introduce a unified inference-time attention modulation strategy that reweights selected visual tokens, improving counterfactual counting accuracy by up to 8% across multiple VLMs. Overall, CounterCount exposes prior-driven counting failures and provides diagnostic insights for designing future VLMs.

Out-of-Distribution Segmentation via Wasserstein-Based Evidential Uncertainty

Deep neural networks achieve superior performance in semantic segmentation, but are limited to a predefined set of classes, which leads to failures when they encounter unknown objects in open-world scenarios. Recognizing and segmenting these out-of-distribution (OOD) objects is crucial for safety-critical applications such as automated driving. In this work, we present an evidence segmentation framework using a Wasserstein loss, which captures distributional distances while respecting the probability simplex geometry. Combined with Kullback-Leibler regularization and Dice structural consistency terms, our approach leads to improved OOD segmentation performance compared to uncertainty-based approaches.

FloorplanQA: A Benchmark for Spatial Reasoning in LLMs using Structured Representations

We introduce FloorplanQA, a diagnostic benchmark for evaluating spatial reasoning in large-language models (LLMs). FloorplanQA is grounded in structured representations of indoor scenes, such as (e.g., kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and others), encoded symbolically in JSON or XML layouts. The benchmark covers core spatial tasks, including distance measurement, visibility, path finding, and object placement within constrained spaces. Our results across a variety of frontier open-source and commercial LLMs reveal that while models may succeed in shallow queries, they often fail to respect physical constraints, preserve spatial coherence, though they remain mostly robust to small spatial perturbations. FloorplanQA uncovers a blind spot in today's LLMs: inconsistent reasoning about indoor layouts. We hope this benchmark inspires new work on language models that can accurately infer and manipulate spatial and geometric properties in practical settings.

Skill-Aligned Annotation for Reliable Evaluation in Text-to-Image Generation

Text-to-image (T2I) generation has advanced rapidly, making reliable evaluation critical as performance differences between models narrow. Existing evaluation practices typically apply uniform annotation mechanisms, such as Likert-scale or binary question answering (BQA), across heterogeneous evaluation skills, despite fundamental differences in their nature. In this work, we revisit T2I evaluation through the lens of skill-aligned annotation, where annotation strategies reflect the underlying characteristics of each evaluation skill. We systematically compare skill-aligned annotation against uniform baselines and show that it produces more consistent evaluation signals, with higher inter-annotator agreement and improved stability across models. Finally, we present an automated pipeline that instantiates the proposed evaluation protocol, enabling scalable and fine-grained evaluation with spatially grounded feedback. Our work highlights that improving the foundations of image evaluation can increase reliability and efficiency without simply scaling annotation effort. We hope this motivates further research on refining evaluation protocols as a central component of reliable model assessment.

SoccerLens: Grounded Soccer Video Understanding Beyond Accuracy

Vision-language models (VLMs) have recently shown strong potential in soccer video understanding. However, given the high complexity of soccer videos due to large viewpoint variations, rapid shot transitions, and cluttered scenes, it remains unclear on whether VLMs rely on meaningful visual evidence or exploit spurious correlations and shortcut learning. Existing evaluation protocols focus primarily on classification accuracy and do not assess visual grounding. To address this limitation, we introduce SoccerLens, a benchmark for grounded soccer video understanding. The benchmark contains annotated video segments spanning $13$ common soccer events, with structured visual cues organized into three levels of semantic relevance. We further extend the attribution method of Chefer [arXiv:2103.15679] to jointly model spatial and temporal attention, and introduce evaluation metrics that measure whether model attention aligns with annotated cues or drifts toward spurious regions. Our evaluation of state-of-the-art soccer VLMs shows that, despite strong classification accuracy, current models fail to exceed $50\%$ grounding performance even under the loosest cue definitions and consistently underutilize temporal information. These results reveal a substantial gap between predictive performance and true visual grounding, highlighting the need for grounded evaluation in complex spatio-temporal domains such as soccer.

LatentMan: Generating Consistent Animated Characters using Image Diffusion Models

We propose a zero-shot approach for generating consistent videos of animated characters based on Text-to-Image (T2I) diffusion models. Existing Text-to-Video (T2V) methods are expensive to train and require large-scale video datasets to produce diverse characters and motions. At the same time, their zero-shot alternatives fail to produce temporally consistent videos with continuous motion. We strive to bridge this gap, and we introduce LatentMan, which leverages existing text-based motion diffusion models to generate diverse continuous motions to guide the T2I model. To boost the temporal consistency, we introduce the Spatial Latent Alignment module that exploits cross-frame dense correspondences that we compute to align the latents of the video frames. Furthermore, we propose Pixel-Wise Guidance to steer the diffusion process in a direction that minimizes visual discrepancies between frames. Our proposed approach outperforms existing zero-shot T2V approaches in generating videos of animated characters in terms of pixel-wise consistency and user preference. PartEdit: Fine-Grained Image Editing using Pre-Trained Diffusion Models

We present the first text-based image editing approach for object parts based on pre-trained diffusion models. Diffusion-based image editing approaches capitalized on the deep understanding of diffusion models of image semantics to perform a variety of edits. However, existing diffusion models lack sufficient understanding of many object parts, hindering fine-grained edits requested by users. To address this, we propose to expand the knowledge of pre-trained diffusion models to allow them to understand various object parts, enabling them to perform fine-grained edits. We achieve this by learning special textual tokens that correspond to different object parts through an efficient token optimization process. These tokens are optimized to produce reliable localization masks at each inference step to localize the editing region. Leveraging these masks, we design feature-blending and adaptive thresholding strategies to execute the edits seamlessly. To evaluate our approach, we establish a benchmark and an evaluation protocol for part editing. Experiments show that our approach outperforms existing editing methods on all metrics and is preferred by users 66-90% of the time in conducted user studies.

ZeroKey: Point-Level Reasoning and Zero-Shot 3D Keypoint Detection from Large Language Models

We propose a novel zero-shot approach for keypoint detection on 3D shapes. Point-level reasoning on visual data is challenging as it requires precise localization capability, posing problems even for powerful models like DINO or CLIP. Traditional methods for 3D keypoint detection rely heavily on annotated 3D datasets and extensive supervised training, limiting their scalability and applicability to new categories or domains. In contrast, our method utilizes the rich knowledge embedded within Multi-Modal Large Language Models (MLLMs). Specifically, we demonstrate, for the first time, that pixel-level annotations used to train recent MLLMs can be exploited for both extracting and naming salient keypoints on 3D models without any ground truth labels or supervision. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that our approach achieves competitive performance on standard benchmarks compared to supervised methods, despite not requiring any 3D keypoint annotations during training. Our results highlight the potential of integrating language models for localized 3D shape understanding. This work opens new avenues for cross-modal learning and underscores the effectiveness of MLLMs in contributing to 3D computer vision challenges.

NearID: Identity Representation Learning via Near-identity Distractors

When evaluating identity-focused tasks such as personalized generation and image editing, existing vision encoders entangle object identity with background context, leading to unreliable representations and metrics. We introduce the first principled framework to address this vulnerability using Near-identity (NearID) distractors, where semantically similar but distinct instances are placed on the exact same background as a reference image, eliminating contextual shortcuts and isolating identity as the sole discriminative signal. Based on this principle, we present the NearID dataset (19K identities, 316K matched-context distractors) together with a strict margin-based evaluation protocol. Under this setting, pre-trained encoders perform poorly, achieving Sample Success Rates (SSR), a strict margin-based identity discrimination metric, as low as 30.7% and often ranking distractors above true cross-view matches. We address this by learning identity-aware representations on a frozen backbone using a two-tier contrastive objective enforcing the hierarchy: same identity > NearID distractor > random negative. This improves SSR to 99.2%, enhances part-level discrimination by 28.0%, and yields stronger alignment with human judgments on DreamBench++, a human-aligned benchmark for personalization. PlaceIt3D: Language-Guided Object Placement in Real 3D Scenes

We introduce the novel task of Language-Guided Object Placement in Real 3D Scenes. Our model is given a 3D scene's point cloud, a 3D asset, and a textual prompt broadly describing where the 3D asset should be placed. The task here is to find a valid placement for the 3D asset that respects the prompt. Compared with other language-guided localization tasks in 3D scenes such as grounding, this task has specific challenges: it is ambiguous because it has multiple valid solutions, and it requires reasoning about 3D geometric relationships and free space. We inaugurate this task by proposing a new benchmark and evaluation protocol. We also introduce a new dataset for training 3D LLMs on this task, as well as the first method to serve as a non-trivial baseline. We believe that this challenging task and our new benchmark could become part of the suite of benchmarks used to evaluate and compare generalist 3D LLM models.

Global PIQA: Evaluating Physical Commonsense Reasoning Across 100+ Languages and Cultures

To date, there exist almost no culturally-specific evaluation benchmarks for large language models (LLMs) that cover a large number of languages and cultures. In this paper, we present Global PIQA, a participatory commonsense reasoning benchmark for over 100 languages, constructed by hand by 335 researchers from 65 countries around the world. The 116 language varieties in Global PIQA cover five continents, 14 language families, and 23 writing systems. In the non-parallel split of Global PIQA, over 50% of examples reference local foods, customs, traditions, or other culturally-specific elements. We find that state-of-the-art LLMs perform well on Global PIQA in aggregate, but they exhibit weaker performance in lower-resource languages (up to a 37% accuracy gap, despite random chance at 50%). Open models generally perform worse than proprietary models. Global PIQA highlights that in many languages and cultures, everyday knowledge remains an area for improvement, alongside more widely-discussed capabilities such as complex reasoning and expert knowledge. Beyond its uses for LLM evaluation, we hope that Global PIQA provides a glimpse into the wide diversity of cultures in which human language is embedded.

Mind-the-Glitch: Visual Correspondence for Detecting Inconsistencies in Subject-Driven Generation

We propose a novel approach for disentangling visual and semantic features from the backbones of pre-trained diffusion models, enabling visual correspondence in a manner analogous to the well-established semantic correspondence. While diffusion model backbones are known to encode semantically rich features, they must also contain visual features to support their image synthesis capabilities. However, isolating these visual features is challenging due to the absence of annotated datasets. To address this, we introduce an automated pipeline that constructs image pairs with annotated semantic and visual correspondences based on existing subject-driven image generation datasets, and design a contrastive architecture to separate the two feature types. Leveraging the disentangled representations, we propose a new metric, Visual Semantic Matching (VSM), that quantifies visual inconsistencies in subject-driven image generation. Empirical results show that our approach outperforms global feature-based metrics such as CLIP, DINO, and vision--language models in quantifying visual inconsistencies while also enabling spatial localization of inconsistent regions. To our knowledge, this is the first method that supports both quantification and localization of inconsistencies in subject-driven generation, offering a valuable tool for advancing this task. EditCLIP: Representation Learning for Image Editing

We introduce EditCLIP, a novel representation-learning approach for image editing. Our method learns a unified representation of edits by jointly encoding an input image and its edited counterpart, effectively capturing their transformation. To evaluate its effectiveness, we employ EditCLIP to solve two tasks: exemplar-based image editing and automated edit evaluation. In exemplar-based image editing, we replace text-based instructions in InstructPix2Pix with EditCLIP embeddings computed from a reference exemplar image pair. Experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods while being more efficient and versatile. For automated evaluation, EditCLIP assesses image edits by measuring the similarity between the EditCLIP embedding of a given image pair and either a textual editing instruction or the EditCLIP embedding of another reference image pair. Experiments show that EditCLIP aligns more closely with human judgments than existing CLIP-based metrics, providing a reliable measure of edit quality and structural preservation.

AvatarMMC: 3D Head Avatar Generation and Editing with Multi-Modal Conditioning

We introduce an approach for 3D head avatar generation and editing with multi-modal conditioning based on a 3D Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) and a Latent Diffusion Model (LDM). 3D GANs can generate high-quality head avatars given a single or no condition. However, it is challenging to generate samples that adhere to multiple conditions of different modalities. On the other hand, LDMs excel at learning complex conditional distributions. To this end, we propose to exploit the conditioning capabilities of LDMs to enable multi-modal control over the latent space of a pre-trained 3D GAN. Our method can generate and edit 3D head avatars given a mixture of control signals such as RGB input, segmentation masks, and global attributes. This provides better control over the generation and editing of synthetic avatars both globally and locally. Experiments show that our proposed approach outperforms a solely GAN-based approach both qualitatively and quantitatively on generation and editing tasks. Normalized Convolution Upsampling for Refined Optical Flow Estimation

Optical flow is a regression task where convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have led to major breakthroughs. However, this comes at major computational demands due to the use of cost-volumes and pyramidal representations. This was mitigated by producing flow predictions at quarter the resolution, which are upsampled using bilinear interpolation during test time. Consequently, fine details are usually lost and post-processing is needed to restore them. We propose the Normalized Convolution UPsampler (NCUP), an efficient joint upsampling approach to produce the full-resolution flow during the training of optical flow CNNs. Our proposed approach formulates the upsampling task as a sparse problem and employs the normalized convolutional neural networks to solve it. We evaluate our upsampler against existing joint upsampling approaches when trained end-to-end with a a coarse-to-fine optical flow CNN (PWCNet) and we show that it outperforms all other approaches on the FlyingChairs dataset while having at least one order fewer parameters. Moreover, we test our upsampler with a recurrent optical flow CNN (RAFT) and we achieve state-of-the-art results on Sintel benchmark with ~6% error reduction, and on-par on the KITTI dataset, while having 7.5% fewer parameters (see Figure 1). Finally, our upsampler shows better generalization capabilities than RAFT when trained and evaluated on different datasets.

Uncertainty-Aware CNNs for Depth Completion: Uncertainty from Beginning to End

The focus in deep learning research has been mostly to push the limits of prediction accuracy. However, this was often achieved at the cost of increased complexity, raising concerns about the interpretability and the reliability of deep networks. Recently, an increasing attention has been given to untangling the complexity of deep networks and quantifying their uncertainty for different computer vision tasks. Differently, the task of depth completion has not received enough attention despite the inherent noisy nature of depth sensors. In this work, we thus focus on modeling the uncertainty of depth data in depth completion starting from the sparse noisy input all the way to the final prediction. We propose a novel approach to identify disturbed measurements in the input by learning an input confidence estimator in a self-supervised manner based on the normalized convolutional neural networks (NCNNs). Further, we propose a probabilistic version of NCNNs that produces a statistically meaningful uncertainty measure for the final prediction. When we evaluate our approach on the KITTI dataset for depth completion, we outperform all the existing Bayesian Deep Learning approaches in terms of prediction accuracy, quality of the uncertainty measure, and the computational efficiency. Moreover, our small network with 670k parameters performs on-par with conventional approaches with millions of parameters. These results give strong evidence that separating the network into parallel uncertainty and prediction streams leads to state-of-the-art performance with accurate uncertainty estimates.

Unpaired Thermal to Visible Spectrum Transfer using Adversarial Training

Thermal Infrared (TIR) cameras are gaining popularity in many computer vision applications due to their ability to operate under low-light conditions. Images produced by TIR cameras are usually difficult for humans to perceive visually, which limits their usability. Several methods in the literature were proposed to address this problem by transforming TIR images into realistic visible spectrum (VIS) images. However, existing TIR-VIS datasets suffer from imperfect alignment between TIR-VIS image pairs which degrades the performance of supervised methods. We tackle this problem by learning this transformation using an unsupervised Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) which trains on unpaired TIR and VIS images. When trained and evaluated on KAIST-MS dataset, our proposed methods was shown to produce significantly more realistic and sharp VIS images than the existing state-of-the-art supervised methods. In addition, our proposed method was shown to generalize very well when evaluated on a new dataset of new environments.

Confidence Propagation through CNNs for Guided Sparse Depth Regression

Generally, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) process data on a regular grid, e.g. data generated by ordinary cameras. Designing CNNs for sparse and irregularly spaced input data is still an open research problem with numerous applications in autonomous driving, robotics, and surveillance. In this paper, we propose an algebraically-constrained normalized convolution layer for CNNs with highly sparse input that has a smaller number of network parameters compared to related work. We propose novel strategies for determining the confidence from the convolution operation and propagating it to consecutive layers. We also propose an objective function that simultaneously minimizes the data error while maximizing the output confidence. To integrate structural information, we also investigate fusion strategies to combine depth and RGB information in our normalized convolution network framework. In addition, we introduce the use of output confidence as an auxiliary information to improve the results. The capabilities of our normalized convolution network framework are demonstrated for the problem of scene depth completion. Comprehensive experiments are performed on the KITTI-Depth and the NYU-Depth-v2 datasets. The results clearly demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves superior performance while requiring only about 1-5% of the number of parameters compared to the state-of-the-art methods.

Propagating Confidences through CNNs for Sparse Data Regression

In most computer vision applications, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) operate on dense image data generated by ordinary cameras. Designing CNNs for sparse and irregularly spaced input data is still an open problem with numerous applications in autonomous driving, robotics, and surveillance. To tackle this challenging problem, we introduce an algebraically-constrained convolution layer for CNNs with sparse input and demonstrate its capabilities for the scene depth completion task. Comprehensive experiments are performed on the KITTI depth benchmark and the results clearly demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves superior performance while requiring three times fewer parameters than the state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, our approach produces a continuous pixel-wise confidence map enabling information fusion, state inference, and decision support.
