UHR-BAT: Budget-Aware Token Compression Vision-Language model for Ultra-High-Resolution Remote SensingYunkai Dang, Minxin Dai, Yuekun Yang et al.
Ultra-high-resolution (UHR) remote sensing imagery couples kilometer-scale context with query-critical evidence that may occupy only a few pixels. Such vast spatial scale leads to a quadratic explosion of visual tokens and hinders the extraction of information from small objects. Previous works utilize direct downsampling, dense tiling, or global top-k pruning, which either compromise query-critical image details or incur unpredictable compute. In this paper, we propose UHR-BAT, a query-guided and region-faithful token compression framework to efficiently select visual tokens under a strict context budget. Specifically, we leverage text-guided, multi-scale importance estimation for visual tokens, effectively tackling the challenge of achieving precise yet low-cost feature extraction. Furthermore, by introducing region-wise preserve and merge strategies, we mitigate visual token redundancy, further driving down the computational budget. Experimental results show that UHR-BAT achieves state-of-the-art performance across various benchmarks. Code will be available at https://github.com/Yunkaidang/UHR.

VastGaussian: Vast 3D Gaussians for Large Scene ReconstructionJiaqi Lin, Zhihao Li, Xiao Tang et al. · pku
Existing NeRF-based methods for large scene reconstruction often have limitations in visual quality and rendering speed. While the recent 3D Gaussian Splatting works well on small-scale and object-centric scenes, scaling it up to large scenes poses challenges due to limited video memory, long optimization time, and noticeable appearance variations. To address these challenges, we present VastGaussian, the first method for high-quality reconstruction and real-time rendering on large scenes based on 3D Gaussian Splatting. We propose a progressive partitioning strategy to divide a large scene into multiple cells, where the training cameras and point cloud are properly distributed with an airspace-aware visibility criterion. These cells are merged into a complete scene after parallel optimization. We also introduce decoupled appearance modeling into the optimization process to reduce appearance variations in the rendered images. Our approach outperforms existing NeRF-based methods and achieves state-of-the-art results on multiple large scene datasets, enabling fast optimization and high-fidelity real-time rendering.

MirrorGaussian: Reflecting 3D Gaussians for Reconstructing Mirror ReflectionsJiayue Liu, Xiao Tang, Freeman Cheng et al. · pku
3D Gaussian Splatting showcases notable advancements in photo-realistic and real-time novel view synthesis. However, it faces challenges in modeling mirror reflections, which exhibit substantial appearance variations from different viewpoints. To tackle this problem, we present MirrorGaussian, the first method for mirror scene reconstruction with real-time rendering based on 3D Gaussian Splatting. The key insight is grounded on the mirror symmetry between the real-world space and the virtual mirror space. We introduce an intuitive dual-rendering strategy that enables differentiable rasterization of both the real-world 3D Gaussians and the mirrored counterpart obtained by reflecting the former about the mirror plane. All 3D Gaussians are jointly optimized with the mirror plane in an end-to-end framework. MirrorGaussian achieves high-quality and real-time rendering in scenes with mirrors, empowering scene editing like adding new mirrors and objects. Comprehensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms existing methods, achieving state-of-the-art results. Efficient Redundancy Reduction for Open-Vocabulary Semantic SegmentationLin Chen, Qi Yang, Kun Ding et al.
Open-vocabulary semantic segmentation (OVSS) is an open-world task that aims to assign each pixel within an image to a specific class defined by arbitrary text descriptions. Recent advancements in large-scale vision-language models have demonstrated their open-vocabulary understanding capabilities, significantly facilitating the development of OVSS. However, most existing methods suffer from either suboptimal performance or long latency. This study introduces ERR-Seg, a novel framework that effectively reduces redundancy to balance accuracy and efficiency. ERR-Seg incorporates a training-free Channel Reduction Module (CRM) that leverages prior knowledge from vision-language models like CLIP to identify the most relevant classes while discarding others. Moreover, it incorporates Efficient Semantic Context Fusion (ESCF) with spatial-level and class-level sequence reduction strategies. CRM and ESCF result in substantial memory and computational savings without compromising accuracy. Additionally, recognizing the significance of hierarchical semantics extracted from middle-layer features for closed-set semantic segmentation, ERR-Seg introduces the Hierarchical Semantic Module (HSM) to exploit hierarchical semantics in the context of OVSS. Compared to previous state-of-the-art methods under the ADE20K-847 setting, ERR-Seg achieves +$5.6\%$ mIoU improvement and reduces latency by $67.3\%$.
