Feature Aggregation and Propagation Network for Camouflaged Object DetectionTao Zhou, Yi Zhou, Chen Gong et al.
Camouflaged object detection (COD) aims to detect/segment camouflaged objects embedded in the environment, which has attracted increasing attention over the past decades. Although several COD methods have been developed, they still suffer from unsatisfactory performance due to the intrinsic similarities between the foreground objects and background surroundings. In this paper, we propose a novel Feature Aggregation and Propagation Network (FAP-Net) for camouflaged object detection. Specifically, we propose a Boundary Guidance Module (BGM) to explicitly model the boundary characteristic, which can provide boundary-enhanced features to boost the COD performance. To capture the scale variations of the camouflaged objects, we propose a Multi-scale Feature Aggregation Module (MFAM) to characterize the multi-scale information from each layer and obtain the aggregated feature representations. Furthermore, we propose a Cross-level Fusion and Propagation Module (CFPM). In the CFPM, the feature fusion part can effectively integrate the features from adjacent layers to exploit the cross-level correlations, and the feature propagation part can transmit valuable context information from the encoder to the decoder network via a gate unit. Finally, we formulate a unified and end-to-end trainable framework where cross-level features can be effectively fused and propagated for capturing rich context information. Extensive experiments on three benchmark camouflaged datasets demonstrate that our FAP-Net outperforms other state-of-the-art COD models. Moreover, our model can be extended to the polyp segmentation task, and the comparison results further validate the effectiveness of the proposed model in segmenting polyps. Learning Visibility for Robust Dense Human Body EstimationChun-Han Yao, Jimei Yang, Duygu Ceylan et al.
Estimating 3D human pose and shape from 2D images is a crucial yet challenging task. While prior methods with model-based representations can perform reasonably well on whole-body images, they often fail when parts of the body are occluded or outside the frame. Moreover, these results usually do not faithfully capture the human silhouettes due to their limited representation power of deformable models (e.g., representing only the naked body). An alternative approach is to estimate dense vertices of a predefined template body in the image space. Such representations are effective in localizing vertices within an image but cannot handle out-of-frame body parts. In this work, we learn dense human body estimation that is robust to partial observations. We explicitly model the visibility of human joints and vertices in the x, y, and z axes separately. The visibility in x and y axes help distinguishing out-of-frame cases, and the visibility in depth axis corresponds to occlusions (either self-occlusions or occlusions by other objects). We obtain pseudo ground-truths of visibility labels from dense UV correspondences and train a neural network to predict visibility along with 3D coordinates. We show that visibility can serve as 1) an additional signal to resolve depth ordering ambiguities of self-occluded vertices and 2) a regularization term when fitting a human body model to the predictions. Extensive experiments on multiple 3D human datasets demonstrate that visibility modeling significantly improves the accuracy of human body estimation, especially for partial-body cases. Recently, Meta AI Research releases a general Segment Anything Model (SAM), which has demonstrated promising performance in several segmentation tasks. As we know, polyp segmentation is a fundamental task in the medical imaging field, which plays a critical role in the diagnosis and cure of colorectal cancer. In particular, applying SAM to the polyp segmentation task is interesting. In this report, we evaluate the performance of SAM in segmenting polyps, in which SAM is under unprompted settings. Edge-aware Feature Aggregation Network for Polyp SegmentationTao Zhou, Yizhe Zhang, Geng Chen et al.
Precise polyp segmentation is vital for the early diagnosis and prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC) in clinical practice. However, due to scale variation and blurry polyp boundaries, it is still a challenging task to achieve satisfactory segmentation performance with different scales and shapes. In this study, we present a novel Edge-aware Feature Aggregation Network (EFA-Net) for polyp segmentation, which can fully make use of cross-level and multi-scale features to enhance the performance of polyp segmentation. Specifically, we first present an Edge-aware Guidance Module (EGM) to combine the low-level features with the high-level features to learn an edge-enhanced feature, which is incorporated into each decoder unit using a layer-by-layer strategy. Besides, a Scale-aware Convolution Module (SCM) is proposed to learn scale-aware features by using dilated convolutions with different ratios, in order to effectively deal with scale variation. Further, a Cross-level Fusion Module (CFM) is proposed to effectively integrate the cross-level features, which can exploit the local and global contextual information. Finally, the outputs of CFMs are adaptively weighted by using the learned edge-aware feature, which are then used to produce multiple side-out segmentation maps. Experimental results on five widely adopted colonoscopy datasets show that our EFA-Net outperforms state-of-the-art polyp segmentation methods in terms of generalization and effectiveness. Boosting Multi-modal Model Performance with Adaptive Gradient ModulationHong Li, Xingyu Li, Pengbo Hu et al.
While the field of multi-modal learning keeps growing fast, the deficiency of the standard joint training paradigm has become clear through recent studies. They attribute the sub-optimal performance of the jointly trained model to the modality competition phenomenon. Existing works attempt to improve the jointly trained model by modulating the training process. Despite their effectiveness, those methods can only apply to late fusion models. More importantly, the mechanism of the modality competition remains unexplored. In this paper, we first propose an adaptive gradient modulation method that can boost the performance of multi-modal models with various fusion strategies. Extensive experiments show that our method surpasses all existing modulation methods. Furthermore, to have a quantitative understanding of the modality competition and the mechanism behind the effectiveness of our modulation method, we introduce a novel metric to measure the competition strength. This metric is built on the mono-modal concept, a function that is designed to represent the competition-less state of a modality. Through systematic investigation, our results confirm the intuition that the modulation encourages the model to rely on the more informative modality. In addition, we find that the jointly trained model typically has a preferred modality on which the competition is weaker than other modalities. Multi-scale Transformer Network with Edge-aware Pre-training for Cross-Modality MR Image SynthesisYonghao Li, Tao Zhou, Kelei He et al.
Cross-modality magnetic resonance (MR) image synthesis can be used to generate missing modalities from given ones. Existing (supervised learning) methods often require a large number of paired multi-modal data to train an effective synthesis model. However, it is often challenging to obtain sufficient paired data for supervised training. In reality, we often have a small number of paired data while a large number of unpaired data. To take advantage of both paired and unpaired data, in this paper, we propose a Multi-scale Transformer Network (MT-Net) with edge-aware pre-training for cross-modality MR image synthesis. Specifically, an Edge-preserving Masked AutoEncoder (Edge-MAE) is first pre-trained in a self-supervised manner to simultaneously perform 1) image imputation for randomly masked patches in each image and 2) whole edge map estimation, which effectively learns both contextual and structural information. Besides, a novel patch-wise loss is proposed to enhance the performance of Edge-MAE by treating different masked patches differently according to the difficulties of their respective imputations. Based on this proposed pre-training, in the subsequent fine-tuning stage, a Dual-scale Selective Fusion (DSF) module is designed (in our MT-Net) to synthesize missing-modality images by integrating multi-scale features extracted from the encoder of the pre-trained Edge-MAE. Further, this pre-trained encoder is also employed to extract high-level features from the synthesized image and corresponding ground-truth image, which are required to be similar (consistent) in the training. Experimental results show that our MT-Net achieves comparable performance to the competing methods even using $70\%$ of all available paired data. Uncertainty-inspired Open Set Learning for Retinal Anomaly IdentificationMeng Wang, Tian Lin, Lianyu Wang et al.
Failure to recognize samples from the classes unseen during training is a major limitation of artificial intelligence in the real-world implementation for recognition and classification of retinal anomalies. We established an uncertainty-inspired open-set (UIOS) model, which was trained with fundus images of 9 retinal conditions. Besides assessing the probability of each category, UIOS also calculated an uncertainty score to express its confidence. Our UIOS model with thresholding strategy achieved an F1 score of 99.55%, 97.01% and 91.91% for the internal testing set, external target categories (TC)-JSIEC dataset and TC-unseen testing set, respectively, compared to the F1 score of 92.20%, 80.69% and 64.74% by the standard AI model. Furthermore, UIOS correctly predicted high uncertainty scores, which would prompt the need for a manual check in the datasets of non-target categories retinal diseases, low-quality fundus images, and non-fundus images. UIOS provides a robust method for real-world screening of retinal anomalies.

RiskFlow: Fast and Faithful Safety-Critical Traffic Scenario GenerationQi Lan, Yining Tang, Yu Shen et al.
Safety-critical traffic scenario generation is essential for evaluating autonomous driving systems under rare but high-risk interactions. Existing diffusion-based methods offer strong controllability in closed-loop generation, but their iterative denoising process is computationally expensive and may accumulate sampling and guidance errors over long rollouts, causing unrealistic motion artifacts such as jitter, abnormal acceleration, and off-road behavior. To address these issues, we propose RiskFlow, a closed-loop safety-critical multi-agent traffic generation framework that formulates future trajectory generation as transport in the action space. Instead of relying on iterative denoising, RiskFlow learns an average velocity field over a finite interval to transform Gaussian action sequences into future acceleration and yaw-rate commands with a single forward pass, using a JVP-based objective for efficient and stable training. At test time, RiskFlow applies output-space guidance to the generated actions, steering selected critical agents toward risky interactions while regularizing off-road behavior, and reconstructs physically feasible trajectories through vehicle dynamics. Experiments on nuScenes with tbsim closed-loop evaluation show that RiskFlow achieves a strong adversariality-realism trade-off across multi-agent and long-horizon settings. Compared with representative baselines, RiskFlow consistently improves realism while maintaining competitive safety-critical generation capability, and substantially reduces inference time for evaluation.

Conic10K: A Challenging Math Problem Understanding and Reasoning DatasetHaoyi Wu, Wenyang Hui, Yezeng Chen et al.
Mathematical understanding and reasoning are crucial tasks for assessing the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI). However, existing benchmarks either require just a few steps of reasoning, or only contain a small amount of data in one specific topic, making it hard to analyse AI's behaviour with reference to different problems within a specific topic in detail. In this work, we propose Conic10K, a challenging math problem dataset on conic sections in Chinese senior high school education. Our dataset contains various problems with different reasoning depths, while only the knowledge from conic sections is required. Since the dataset only involves a narrow range of knowledge, it is easy to separately analyse the knowledge a model possesses and the reasoning ability it has. For each problem, we provide a high-quality formal representation, the reasoning steps, and the final solution. Experiments show that existing large language models, including GPT-4, exhibit weak performance on complex reasoning. We hope that our findings could inspire more advanced techniques for precise natural language understanding and reasoning. Our dataset and codes are available at https://github.com/whyNLP/Conic10K.

Early detection and assessment of polyps play a crucial role in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC). Polyp segmentation provides an effective solution to assist clinicians in accurately locating and segmenting polyp regions. In the past, people often relied on manually extracted lower-level features such as color, texture, and shape, which often had issues capturing global context and lacked robustness to complex scenarios. With the advent of deep learning, more and more outstanding medical image segmentation algorithms based on deep learning networks have emerged, making significant progress in this field. This paper provides a comprehensive review of polyp segmentation algorithms. We first review some traditional algorithms based on manually extracted features and deep segmentation algorithms, then detail benchmark datasets related to the topic. Specifically, we carry out a comprehensive evaluation of recent deep learning models and results based on polyp sizes, considering the pain points of research topics and differences in network structures. Finally, we discuss the challenges of polyp segmentation and future trends in this field. GRIP: Generating Interaction Poses Using Spatial Cues and Latent ConsistencyOmid Taheri, Yi Zhou, Dimitrios Tzionas et al.
Hands are dexterous and highly versatile manipulators that are central to how humans interact with objects and their environment. Consequently, modeling realistic hand-object interactions, including the subtle motion of individual fingers, is critical for applications in computer graphics, computer vision, and mixed reality. Prior work on capturing and modeling humans interacting with objects in 3D focuses on the body and object motion, often ignoring hand pose. In contrast, we introduce GRIP, a learning-based method that takes, as input, the 3D motion of the body and the object, and synthesizes realistic motion for both hands before, during, and after object interaction. As a preliminary step before synthesizing the hand motion, we first use a network, ANet, to denoise the arm motion. Then, we leverage the spatio-temporal relationship between the body and the object to extract two types of novel temporal interaction cues, and use them in a two-stage inference pipeline to generate the hand motion. In the first stage, we introduce a new approach to enforce motion temporal consistency in the latent space (LTC), and generate consistent interaction motions. In the second stage, GRIP generates refined hand poses to avoid hand-object penetrations. Given sequences of noisy body and object motion, GRIP upgrades them to include hand-object interaction. Quantitative experiments and perceptual studies demonstrate that GRIP outperforms baseline methods and generalizes to unseen objects and motions from different motion-capture datasets.

When Correct Demonstrations Hurt: Rethinking the Role of Exemplars in In-Context LearningChenghao Qiu, Chunli Peng, Yufeng Yang et al.
In-context learning (ICL) is often motivated by the intuition that demonstrations help because they provide correct input-output examples. However, we reveal a counterintuitive phenomenon: correctness does not guarantee exemplar utility, and some correct demonstrations can even reduce ICL accuracy. To study this correctness-utility gap, we introduce task-preserving perturbations, where only the exemplar input is changed, while the example remains a correct instance of the same task. Concretely, each perturbed exemplar is assigned the target induced by the task mapping. This framework covers both label-updating perturbations, where task-relevant semantics change and targets are recomputed, and stricter target-preserving perturbations, where the original target remains valid. We formalize the resulting failure mode as contextual evidence shift: task-preserving perturbations can change the effective mixture of evidence used by the model for contextual inference, thereby separating exemplar correctness from exemplar utility. Across sentiment classification, logical reasoning, and math word problems, we find that task-preserving perturbed demonstrations can substantially degrade ICL performance, especially for smaller models, harder tasks, and higher perturbation ratios. Our results show that robust ICL requires evaluating not only whether demonstrations are correct, but also how they influence contextual inference. A Repulsive Force Unit for Garment Collision Handling in Neural NetworksQingyang Tan, Yi Zhou, Tuanfeng Wang et al.
Despite recent success, deep learning-based methods for predicting 3D garment deformation under body motion suffer from interpenetration problems between the garment and the body. To address this problem, we propose a novel collision handling neural network layer called Repulsive Force Unit (ReFU). Based on the signed distance function (SDF) of the underlying body and the current garment vertex positions, ReFU predicts the per-vertex offsets that push any interpenetrating vertex to a collision-free configuration while preserving the fine geometric details. We show that ReFU is differentiable with trainable parameters and can be integrated into different network backbones that predict 3D garment deformations. Our experiments show that ReFU significantly reduces the number of collisions between the body and the garment and better preserves geometric details compared to prior methods based on collision loss or post-processing optimization.

NeMF: Neural Motion Fields for Kinematic AnimationChengan He, Jun Saito, James Zachary et al.
We present an implicit neural representation to learn the spatio-temporal space of kinematic motions. Unlike previous work that represents motion as discrete sequential samples, we propose to express the vast motion space as a continuous function over time, hence the name Neural Motion Fields (NeMF). Specifically, we use a neural network to learn this function for miscellaneous sets of motions, which is designed to be a generative model conditioned on a temporal coordinate $t$ and a random vector $z$ for controlling the style. The model is then trained as a Variational Autoencoder (VAE) with motion encoders to sample the latent space. We train our model with a diverse human motion dataset and quadruped dataset to prove its versatility, and finally deploy it as a generic motion prior to solve task-agnostic problems and show its superiority in different motion generation and editing applications, such as motion interpolation, in-betweening, and re-navigating. Delving into the Estimation Shift of Batch Normalization in a NetworkLei Huang, Yi Zhou, Tian Wang et al.
Batch normalization (BN) is a milestone technique in deep learning. It normalizes the activation using mini-batch statistics during training but the estimated population statistics during inference. This paper focuses on investigating the estimation of population statistics. We define the estimation shift magnitude of BN to quantitatively measure the difference between its estimated population statistics and expected ones. Our primary observation is that the estimation shift can be accumulated due to the stack of BN in a network, which has detriment effects for the test performance. We further find a batch-free normalization (BFN) can block such an accumulation of estimation shift. These observations motivate our design of XBNBlock that replace one BN with BFN in the bottleneck block of residual-style networks. Experiments on the ImageNet and COCO benchmarks show that XBNBlock consistently improves the performance of different architectures, including ResNet and ResNeXt, by a significant margin and seems to be more robust to distribution shift.

Mitigating Modality Imbalance in Multi-modal Learning via Multi-objective OptimizationHeshan Fernando, Parikshit Ram, Yi Zhou et al.
Multi-modal learning (MML) aims to integrate information from multiple modalities, which is expected to lead to superior performance over single-modality learning. However, recent studies have shown that MML can underperform, even compared to single-modality approaches, due to imbalanced learning across modalities. Methods have been proposed to alleviate this imbalance issue using different heuristics, which often lead to computationally intensive subroutines. In this paper, we reformulate the MML problem as a multi-objective optimization (MOO) problem that overcomes the imbalanced learning issue among modalities and propose a gradient-based algorithm to solve the modified MML problem. We provide convergence guarantees for the proposed method, and empirical evaluations on popular MML benchmarks showcasing the improved performance of the proposed method over existing balanced MML and MOO baselines, with up to ~20x reduction in subroutine computation time. Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road? Rephrasing and Analyzing Ambiguous Questions in VQAElias Stengel-Eskin, Jimena Guallar-Blasco, Yi Zhou et al.
Natural language is ambiguous. Resolving ambiguous questions is key to successfully answering them. Focusing on questions about images, we create a dataset of ambiguous examples. We annotate these, grouping answers by the underlying question they address and rephrasing the question for each group to reduce ambiguity. Our analysis reveals a linguistically-aligned ontology of reasons for ambiguity in visual questions. We then develop an English question-generation model which we demonstrate via automatic and human evaluation produces less ambiguous questions. We further show that the question generation objective we use allows the model to integrate answer group information without any direct supervision.

Cross-view Geo-localization via Learning Disentangled Geometric Layout CorrespondenceXiaohan Zhang, Xingyu Li, Waqas Sultani et al.
Cross-view geo-localization aims to estimate the location of a query ground image by matching it to a reference geo-tagged aerial images database. As an extremely challenging task, its difficulties root in the drastic view changes and different capturing time between two views. Despite these difficulties, recent works achieve outstanding progress on cross-view geo-localization benchmarks. However, existing methods still suffer from poor performance on the cross-area benchmarks, in which the training and testing data are captured from two different regions. We attribute this deficiency to the lack of ability to extract the spatial configuration of visual feature layouts and models' overfitting on low-level details from the training set. In this paper, we propose GeoDTR which explicitly disentangles geometric information from raw features and learns the spatial correlations among visual features from aerial and ground pairs with a novel geometric layout extractor module. This module generates a set of geometric layout descriptors, modulating the raw features and producing high-quality latent representations. In addition, we elaborate on two categories of data augmentations, (i) Layout simulation, which varies the spatial configuration while keeping the low-level details intact. (ii) Semantic augmentation, which alters the low-level details and encourages the model to capture spatial configurations. These augmentations help to improve the performance of the cross-view geo-localization models, especially on the cross-area benchmarks. Moreover, we propose a counterfactual-based learning process to benefit the geometric layout extractor in exploring spatial information. Extensive experiments show that GeoDTR not only achieves state-of-the-art results but also significantly boosts the performance on same-area and cross-area benchmarks.

Real-time Motion Segmentation with Event-based Normal FlowSheng Zhong, Zhongyang Ren, Xiya Zhu et al.
Event-based cameras are bio-inspired sensors with pixels that independently and asynchronously respond to brightness changes at microsecond resolution, offering the potential to handle visual tasks in challenging scenarios. However, due to the sparse information content in individual events, directly processing the raw event data to solve vision tasks is highly inefficient, which severely limits the applicability of state-of-the-art methods in real-time tasks, such as motion segmentation, a fundamental task for dynamic scene understanding. Incorporating normal flow as an intermediate representation to compress motion information from event clusters within a localized region provides a more effective solution. In this work, we propose a normal flow-based motion segmentation framework for event-based vision. Leveraging the dense normal flow directly learned from event neighborhoods as input, we formulate the motion segmentation task as an energy minimization problem solved via graph cuts, and optimize it iteratively with normal flow clustering and motion model fitting. By using a normal flow-based motion model initialization and fitting method, the proposed system is able to efficiently estimate the motion models of independently moving objects with only a limited number of candidate models, which significantly reduces the computational complexity and ensures real-time performance, achieving nearly a 800x speedup in comparison to the open-source state-of-the-art method. Extensive evaluations on multiple public datasets fully demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of our framework.

BeNeRF: Neural Radiance Fields from a Single Blurry Image and Event StreamWenpu Li, Pian Wan, Peng Wang et al.
Neural implicit representation of visual scenes has attracted a lot of attention in recent research of computer vision and graphics. Most prior methods focus on how to reconstruct 3D scene representation from a set of images. In this work, we demonstrate the possibility to recover the neural radiance fields (NeRF) from a single blurry image and its corresponding event stream. We model the camera motion with a cubic B-Spline in SE(3) space. Both the blurry image and the brightness change within a time interval, can then be synthesized from the 3D scene representation given the 6-DoF poses interpolated from the cubic B-Spline. Our method can jointly learn both the implicit neural scene representation and recover the camera motion by minimizing the differences between the synthesized data and the real measurements without pre-computed camera poses from COLMAP. We evaluate the proposed method with both synthetic and real datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that we are able to render view-consistent latent sharp images from the learned NeRF and bring a blurry image alive in high quality. COEFF-KANs: A Paradigm to Address the Electrolyte Field with KANsXinhe Li, Zhuoying Feng, Yezeng Chen et al.
To reduce the experimental validation workload for chemical researchers and accelerate the design and optimization of high-energy-density lithium metal batteries, we aim to leverage models to automatically predict Coulombic Efficiency (CE) based on the composition of liquid electrolytes. There are mainly two representative paradigms in existing methods: machine learning and deep learning. However, the former requires intelligent input feature selection and reliable computational methods, leading to error propagation from feature estimation to model prediction, while the latter (e.g. MultiModal-MoLFormer) faces challenges of poor predictive performance and overfitting due to limited diversity in augmented data. To tackle these issues, we propose a novel method COEFF (COlumbic EFficiency prediction via Fine-tuned models), which consists of two stages: pre-training a chemical general model and fine-tuning on downstream domain data. Firstly, we adopt the publicly available MoLFormer model to obtain feature vectors for each solvent and salt in the electrolyte. Then, we perform a weighted average of embeddings for each token across all molecules, with weights determined by the respective electrolyte component ratios. Finally, we input the obtained electrolyte features into a Multi-layer Perceptron or Kolmogorov-Arnold Network to predict CE. Experimental results on a real-world dataset demonstrate that our method achieves SOTA for predicting CE compared to all baselines. Data and code used in this work will be made publicly available after the paper is published.

Structure-informed Language Models Are Protein DesignersZaixiang Zheng, Yifan Deng, Dongyu Xue et al.
This paper demonstrates that language models are strong structure-based protein designers. We present LM-Design, a generic approach to reprogramming sequence-based protein language models (pLMs), that have learned massive sequential evolutionary knowledge from the universe of natural protein sequences, to acquire an immediate capability to design preferable protein sequences for given folds. We conduct a structural surgery on pLMs, where a lightweight structural adapter is implanted into pLMs and endows it with structural awareness. During inference, iterative refinement is performed to effectively optimize the generated protein sequences. Experiments show that LM-Design improves the state-of-the-art results by a large margin, leading to up to 4% to 12% accuracy gains in sequence recovery (e.g., 55.65%/56.63% on CATH 4.2/4.3 single-chain benchmarks, and >60% when designing protein complexes). We provide extensive and in-depth analyses, which verify that LM-Design can (1) indeed leverage both structural and sequential knowledge to accurately handle structurally non-deterministic regions, (2) benefit from scaling data and model size, and (3) generalize to other proteins (e.g., antibodies and de novo proteins)

Privacy-Preserving Federated Learning over Vertically and Horizontally Partitioned Data for Financial Anomaly DetectionSwanand Ravindra Kadhe, Heiko Ludwig, Nathalie Baracaldo et al.
The effective detection of evidence of financial anomalies requires collaboration among multiple entities who own a diverse set of data, such as a payment network system (PNS) and its partner banks. Trust among these financial institutions is limited by regulation and competition. Federated learning (FL) enables entities to collaboratively train a model when data is either vertically or horizontally partitioned across the entities. However, in real-world financial anomaly detection scenarios, the data is partitioned both vertically and horizontally and hence it is not possible to use existing FL approaches in a plug-and-play manner. Our novel solution, PV4FAD, combines fully homomorphic encryption (HE), secure multi-party computation (SMPC), differential privacy (DP), and randomization techniques to balance privacy and accuracy during training and to prevent inference threats at model deployment time. Our solution provides input privacy through HE and SMPC, and output privacy against inference time attacks through DP. Specifically, we show that, in the honest-but-curious threat model, banks do not learn any sensitive features about PNS transactions, and the PNS does not learn any information about the banks' dataset but only learns prediction labels. We also develop and analyze a DP mechanism to protect output privacy during inference. Our solution generates high-utility models by significantly reducing the per-bank noise level while satisfying distributed DP. To ensure high accuracy, our approach produces an ensemble model, in particular, a random forest. This enables us to take advantage of the well-known properties of ensembles to reduce variance and increase accuracy. Our solution won second prize in the first phase of the U.S. Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) Prize Challenge.

Motion and Structure from Event-based Normal FlowZhongyang Ren, Bangyan Liao, Delei Kong et al.
Recovering the camera motion and scene geometry from visual data is a fundamental problem in the field of computer vision. Its success in standard vision is attributed to the maturity of feature extraction, data association and multi-view geometry. The recent emergence of neuromorphic event-based cameras places great demands on approaches that use raw event data as input to solve this fundamental problem. Existing state-of-the-art solutions typically infer implicitly data association by iteratively reversing the event data generation process. However, the nonlinear nature of these methods limits their applicability in real-time tasks, and the constant-motion assumption leads to unstable results under agile motion. To this end, we rethink the problem formulation in a way that aligns better with the differential working principle of event cameras. We show that the event-based normal flow can be used, via the proposed geometric error term, as an alternative to the full flow in solving a family of geometric problems that involve instantaneous first-order kinematics and scene geometry. Furthermore, we develop a fast linear solver and a continuous-time nonlinear solver on top of the proposed geometric error term. Experiments on both synthetic and real data show the superiority of our linear solver in terms of accuracy and efficiency, and indicate its complementary feature as an initialization method for existing nonlinear solvers. Besides, our continuous-time non-linear solver exhibits exceptional capability in accommodating sudden variations in motion since it does not rely on the constant-motion assumption.

Normal-guided Garment UV Prediction for Human Re-texturingYasamin Jafarian, Tuanfeng Y. Wang, Duygu Ceylan et al.
Clothes undergo complex geometric deformations, which lead to appearance changes. To edit human videos in a physically plausible way, a texture map must take into account not only the garment transformation induced by the body movements and clothes fitting, but also its 3D fine-grained surface geometry. This poses, however, a new challenge of 3D reconstruction of dynamic clothes from an image or a video. In this paper, we show that it is possible to edit dressed human images and videos without 3D reconstruction. We estimate a geometry aware texture map between the garment region in an image and the texture space, a.k.a, UV map. Our UV map is designed to preserve isometry with respect to the underlying 3D surface by making use of the 3D surface normals predicted from the image. Our approach captures the underlying geometry of the garment in a self-supervised way, requiring no ground truth annotation of UV maps and can be readily extended to predict temporally coherent UV maps. We demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art human UV map estimation approaches on both real and synthetic data.

Various types of social biases have been reported with pretrained Masked Language Models (MLMs) in prior work. However, multiple underlying factors are associated with an MLM such as its model size, size of the training data, training objectives, the domain from which pretraining data is sampled, tokenization, and languages present in the pretrained corpora, to name a few. It remains unclear as to which of those factors influence social biases that are learned by MLMs. To study the relationship between model factors and the social biases learned by an MLM, as well as the downstream task performance of the model, we conduct a comprehensive study over 39 pretrained MLMs covering different model sizes, training objectives, tokenization methods, training data domains and languages. Our results shed light on important factors often neglected in prior literature, such as tokenization or model objectives.

Seeing Together:Multi-Robot Cooperative Egocentric Spatial Reasoning with Multimodal Large Language ModelsKunyu Peng, Zhikun Zhou, Kailun Yang et al.
Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have made substantial progress in egocentric video understanding, but their ability to reason cooperatively from multiple embodied viewpoints remains largely unexplored. We study this problem through multi-robot cooperative dynamic spatial reasoning, where a model must answer spatial, temporal, visibility, and coordination questions by integrating synchronized egocentric videos from a team of moving robots. To support this setting, we introduce CoopSR, the first benchmark for this task, together with EgoTeam, a multi-robot egocentric QA dataset. EgoTeam contains 114,227 QA pairs spanning 19 question types, four difficulty tiers, and three team sizes in Habitat and iGibson, along with a real-world test set of around 2,326 QAs collected using two quadruped robots. We further propose SP-CoR (Spectral and Physics-Informed Cooperative Reasoner), an MLLM framework for fine-grained cooperative spatial reasoning. SP-CoR combines dynamics-aware multi-robot frame sampling, spectral- and physics-guided view fusion, and physics-aligned prompt distillation, enabling the model to benefit from privileged robot-pose supervision during training while requiring only egocentric videos at test time. Across 22 MLLM baselines, SP-CoR consistently improves cooperative reasoning, outperforming the strongest fine-tuned baseline by +3.87% on Habitat and +7.12% on iGibson. Self-Paced Learning for Open-Set Domain AdaptationXinghong Liu, Yi Zhou, Tao Zhou et al.
Domain adaptation tackles the challenge of generalizing knowledge acquired from a source domain to a target domain with different data distributions. Traditional domain adaptation methods presume that the classes in the source and target domains are identical, which is not always the case in real-world scenarios. Open-set domain adaptation (OSDA) addresses this limitation by allowing previously unseen classes in the target domain. Open-set domain adaptation aims to not only recognize target samples belonging to common classes shared by source and target domains but also perceive unknown class samples. We propose a novel framework based on self-paced learning to distinguish common and unknown class samples precisely, referred to as SPLOS (self-paced learning for open-set). To utilize unlabeled target samples for self-paced learning, we generate pseudo labels and design a cross-domain mixup method tailored for OSDA scenarios. This strategy minimizes the noise from pseudo labels and ensures our model progressively learns common class features of the target domain, beginning with simpler examples and advancing to more complex ones. Furthermore, unlike existing OSDA methods that require manual hyperparameter $threshold$ tuning to separate common and unknown classes, our approach self-tunes a suitable threshold, eliminating the need for empirical tuning during testing. Comprehensive experiments illustrate that our method consistently achieves superior performance on different benchmarks compared with various state-of-the-art methods.

MedKCO: Medical Vision-Language Pretraining via Knowledge-Driven Cognitive OrchestrationChenran Zhang, Ruiqi Wu, Tao Zhou et al.
Medical vision-language pretraining (VLP) models have recently been investigated for their generalization to diverse downstream tasks. However, current medical VLP methods typically force the model to learn simple and complex concepts simultaneously. This anti-cognitive process leads to suboptimal feature representations, especially under distribution shift. To address this limitation, we propose a Knowledge-driven Cognitive Orchestration for Medical VLP (MedKCO) that involves both the ordering of the pretraining data and the learning objective of vision-language contrast. Specifically, we design a two level curriculum by incorporating diagnostic sensitivity and intra-class sample representativeness for the ordering of the pretraining data. Moreover, considering the inter-class similarity of medical images, we introduce a self-paced asymmetric contrastive loss to dynamically adjust the participation of the pretraining objective. We evaluate the proposed pretraining method on three medical imaging scenarios in multiple vision-language downstream tasks, and compare it with several curriculum learning methods. Enhancing Text-based Knowledge Graph Completion with Zero-Shot Large Language Models: A Focus on Semantic EnhancementRui Yang, Jiahao Zhu, Jianping Man et al.
The design and development of text-based knowledge graph completion (KGC) methods leveraging textual entity descriptions are at the forefront of research. These methods involve advanced optimization techniques such as soft prompts and contrastive learning to enhance KGC models. The effectiveness of text-based methods largely hinges on the quality and richness of the training data. Large language models (LLMs) can utilize straightforward prompts to alter text data, thereby enabling data augmentation for KGC. Nevertheless, LLMs typically demand substantial computational resources. To address these issues, we introduce a framework termed constrained prompts for KGC (CP-KGC). This CP-KGC framework designs prompts that adapt to different datasets to enhance semantic richness. Additionally, CP-KGC employs a context constraint strategy to effectively identify polysemous entities within KGC datasets. Through extensive experimentation, we have verified the effectiveness of this framework. Even after quantization, the LLM (Qwen-7B-Chat-int4) still enhances the performance of text-based KGC methods \footnote{Code and datasets are available at \href{https://github.com/sjlmg/CP-KGC}{https://github.com/sjlmg/CP-KGC}}. This study extends the performance limits of existing models and promotes further integration of KGC with LLMs.

COCA: Classifier-Oriented Calibration via Textual Prototype for Source-Free Universal Domain AdaptationXinghong Liu, Yi Zhou, Tao Zhou et al.
Universal domain adaptation (UniDA) aims to address domain and category shifts across data sources. Recently, due to more stringent data restrictions, researchers have introduced source-free UniDA (SF-UniDA). SF-UniDA methods eliminate the need for direct access to source samples when performing adaptation to the target domain. However, existing SF-UniDA methods still require an extensive quantity of labeled source samples to train a source model, resulting in significant labeling costs. To tackle this issue, we present a novel plug-and-play classifier-oriented calibration (COCA) method. COCA, which exploits textual prototypes, is designed for the source models based on few-shot learning with vision-language models (VLMs). It endows the VLM-powered few-shot learners, which are built for closed-set classification, with the unknown-aware ability to distinguish common and unknown classes in the SF-UniDA scenario. Crucially, COCA is a new paradigm to tackle SF-UniDA challenges based on VLMs, which focuses on classifier instead of image encoder optimization. Experiments show that COCA outperforms state-of-the-art UniDA and SF-UniDA models.

Federated learning (FL) is a popular way of edge computing that doesn't compromise users' privacy. Current FL paradigms assume that data only resides on the edge, while cloud servers only perform model averaging. However, in real-life situations such as recommender systems, the cloud server has the ability to store historical and interactive features. In this paper, our proposed Edge-Cloud Collaborative Knowledge Transfer Framework (ECCT) bridges the gap between the edge and cloud, enabling bi-directional knowledge transfer between both, sharing feature embeddings and prediction logits. ECCT consolidates various benefits, including enhancing personalization, enabling model heterogeneity, tolerating training asynchronization, and relieving communication burdens. Extensive experiments on public and industrial datasets demonstrate ECCT's effectiveness and potential for use in academia and industry.

Interpretable Battery Aging without Extra Tests via Neural-Assisted Physics-based ModellingYuan Qiu, Wei Li, Wei Zhang et al.
State of health (SoH) is widely used for battery management, but it is a single scalar and offers limited interpretability. Two batteries with similar SoH can exhibit very different degradation behaviors and the lack of interpretability hinders optimal battery operation. In this paper, we propose IBAM for interpretable battery aging modelling with a neural-assisted physics-based framework. IBAM outputs a 2-D aging fingerprint without extra diagnostic tests and uses only routine logs from the battery management system. The fingerprint offers great interpretability by capturing a battery's curve-wide polarization voltage loss and the tail loss near the end-of-discharge. IBAM first creates a physics-based battery model based on a fractional-order equivalent circuit model, and then extracts per-cycle fingerprints from the model using a two-stage least-squares method. IBAM further anchors fingerprints on the SoH axis with physics-guided regression, where the per-cycle SoH is estimated via a bidirectional gated recurrent unit with customized multi-channel voltage features. Across batteries with short-, medium-, and long-lifespans, IBAM consistently yields the best physics model fidelity at different aging stages, and provides clear interpretations of degradation mechanisms and fingerprint patterns about batteries of different lifespans. The resulting fingerprints support interpretable battery health assessment and can inform battery control choices.

Sense embedding learning methods learn different embeddings for the different senses of an ambiguous word. One sense of an ambiguous word might be socially biased while its other senses remain unbiased. In comparison to the numerous prior work evaluating the social biases in pretrained word embeddings, the biases in sense embeddings have been relatively understudied. We create a benchmark dataset for evaluating the social biases in sense embeddings and propose novel sense-specific bias evaluation measures. We conduct an extensive evaluation of multiple static and contextualised sense embeddings for various types of social biases using the proposed measures. Our experimental results show that even in cases where no biases are found at word-level, there still exist worrying levels of social biases at sense-level, which are often ignored by the word-level bias evaluation measures.

Tree-of-Mixed-Thought: Combining Fast and Slow Thinking for Multi-hop Visual ReasoningPengbo Hu, Ji Qi, Xingyu Li et al.
There emerges a promising trend of using large language models (LLMs) to generate code-like plans for complex inference tasks such as visual reasoning. This paradigm, known as LLM-based planning, provides flexibility in problem solving and endows better interpretability. However, current research is mostly limited to basic scenarios of simple questions that can be straightforward answered in a few inference steps. Planning for the more challenging multi-hop visual reasoning tasks remains under-explored. Specifically, under multi-hop reasoning situations, the trade-off between accuracy and the complexity of plan-searching becomes prominent. The prevailing algorithms either address the efficiency issue by employing the fast one-stop generation or adopt a complex iterative generation method to improve accuracy. Both fail to balance the need for efficiency and performance. Drawing inspiration from the dual system of cognition in the human brain, the fast and the slow think processes, we propose a hierarchical plan-searching algorithm that integrates the one-stop reasoning (fast) and the Tree-of-thought (slow). Our approach succeeds in performance while significantly saving inference steps. Moreover, we repurpose the PTR and the CLEVER datasets, developing a systematic framework for evaluating the performance and efficiency of LLMs-based plan-search algorithms under reasoning tasks at different levels of difficulty. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our proposed algorithm in terms of performance and efficiency. The dataset and code will be release soon.

Turning Generative Models Degenerate: The Power of Data Poisoning AttacksShuli Jiang, Swanand Ravindra Kadhe, Yi Zhou et al.
The increasing use of large language models (LLMs) trained by third parties raises significant security concerns. In particular, malicious actors can introduce backdoors through poisoning attacks to generate undesirable outputs. While such attacks have been extensively studied in image domains and classification tasks, they remain underexplored for natural language generation (NLG) tasks. To address this gap, we conduct an investigation of various poisoning techniques targeting the LLM's fine-tuning phase via prefix-tuning, a Parameter Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) method. We assess their effectiveness across two generative tasks: text summarization and text completion; and we also introduce new metrics to quantify the success and stealthiness of such NLG poisoning attacks. Through our experiments, we find that the prefix-tuning hyperparameters and trigger designs are the most crucial factors to influence attack success and stealthiness. Moreover, we demonstrate that existing popular defenses are ineffective against our poisoning attacks. Our study presents the first systematic approach to understanding poisoning attacks targeting NLG tasks during fine-tuning via PEFT across a wide range of triggers and attack settings. We hope our findings will aid the AI security community in developing effective defenses against such threats.

DarkVisionNet: Low-Light Imaging via RGB-NIR Fusion with Deep Inconsistency PriorShuangping Jin, Bingbing Yu, Minhao Jing et al.
RGB-NIR fusion is a promising method for low-light imaging. However, high-intensity noise in low-light images amplifies the effect of structure inconsistency between RGB-NIR images, which fails existing algorithms. To handle this, we propose a new RGB-NIR fusion algorithm called Dark Vision Net (DVN) with two technical novelties: Deep Structure and Deep Inconsistency Prior (DIP). The Deep Structure extracts clear structure details in deep multiscale feature space rather than raw input space, which is more robust to noisy inputs. Based on the deep structures from both RGB and NIR domains, we introduce the DIP to leverage the structure inconsistency to guide the fusion of RGB-NIR. Benefiting from this, the proposed DVN obtains high-quality lowlight images without the visual artifacts. We also propose a new dataset called Dark Vision Dataset (DVD), consisting of aligned RGB-NIR image pairs, as the first public RGBNIR fusion benchmark. Quantitative and qualitative results on the proposed benchmark show that DVN significantly outperforms other comparison algorithms in PSNR and SSIM, especially in extremely low light conditions.

Dynamic Modeling and Control of Multi-Stack Alkaline Water Electrolysis Systems with Shared Gas Separators and Lye Circulation: An Experiment-Based StudyYiwei Qiu, Jiatong Li, Yangjun Zeng et al.
An emerging approach for large-scale renewable hydrogen production is integrating multiple alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) stacks into one balance-of-plant (BoP) system, sharing gas-lye separation and lye circulation components. While this configuration, termed $N$-in-1, reduces cost and complexity, its dynamic performance under fluctuating power remains unclear compared with conventional 1-in-1 systems. This paper develops a state-space model of the multi-stack AWE system, capturing lye circulation, temperature, and hydrogen-to-oxygen (HTO) dynamics, calibrated via experiments on a 4,000 Nm$^3$/h-rated 4-in-1 system. A nonlinear model predictive controller (NMPC) is then designed to coordinate inter-stack current distribution, lye flow, and cooling for load tracking and operational stability. Simulations on the experimental-validated model show that a $4$-in-1 system can achieve very similar performance compared to four parallel 1-in-1 systems. Differences in load-tracking error, temperature stabilization, and specific energy consumption remain below 0.015 MW, 0.346 K, and 0.001 kWh/Nm$^3$ under wind power supply.

Federated Learning (FL) is a paradigm for jointly training machine learning algorithms in a decentralized manner which allows for parties to communicate with an aggregator to create and train a model, without exposing the underlying raw data distribution of the local parties involved in the training process. Most research in FL has been focused on Neural Network-based approaches, however Tree-Based methods, such as XGBoost, have been underexplored in Federated Learning due to the challenges in overcoming the iterative and additive characteristics of the algorithm. Decision tree-based models, in particular XGBoost, can handle non-IID data, which is significant for algorithms used in Federated Learning frameworks since the underlying characteristics of the data are decentralized and have risks of being non-IID by nature. In this paper, we focus on investigating the effects of how Federated XGBoost is impacted by non-IID distributions by performing experiments on various sample size-based data skew scenarios and how these models perform under various non-IID scenarios. We conduct a set of extensive experiments across multiple different datasets and different data skew partitions. Our experimental results demonstrate that despite the various partition ratios, the performance of the models stayed consistent and performed close to or equally well against models that were trained in a centralized manner.

LibraGen: Playing a Balance Game in Subject-Driven Video GenerationJiahao Zhu, Shanshan Lao, Lijie Liu et al.
With the advancement of video generation foundation models (VGFMs), customized generation, particularly subject-to-video (S2V), has attracted growing attention. However, a key challenge lies in balancing the intrinsic priors of a VGFM, such as motion coherence, visual aesthetics, and prompt alignment, with its newly derived S2V capability. Existing methods often neglect this balance by enhancing one aspect at the expense of others. To address this, we propose LibraGen, a novel framework that views extending foundation models for S2V generation as a balance game between intrinsic VGFM strengths and S2V capability. Specifically, guided by the core philosophy of "Raising the Fulcrum, Tuning to Balance," we identify data quality as the fulcrum and advocate a quality-over-quantity approach. We construct a hybrid pipeline that combines automated and manual data filtering to improve overall data quality. To further harmonize the VGFM's native capabilities with its S2V extension, we introduce a Tune-to-Balance post-training paradigm. During supervised fine-tuning, both cross-pair and in-pair data are incorporated, and model merging is employed to achieve an effective trade-off. Subsequently, two tailored direct preference optimization (DPO) pipelines, namely Consis-DPO and Real-Fake DPO, are designed and merged to consolidate this balance. During inference, we introduce a time-dependent dynamic classifier-free guidance scheme to enable flexible and fine-grained control. Experimental results demonstrate that LibraGen outperforms both open-source and commercial S2V models using only thousand-scale training data.

Global solvers have emerged as a powerful paradigm for 3D vision, offering certifiable solutions to nonconvex geometric optimization problems traditionally addressed by local or heuristic methods. This survey presents the first systematic review of global solvers in geometric vision, unifying the field through a comprehensive taxonomy of three core paradigms: Branch-and-Bound (BnB), Convex Relaxation (CR), and Graduated Non-Convexity (GNC). We present their theoretical foundations, algorithmic designs, and practical enhancements for robustness and scalability, examining how each addresses the fundamental nonconvexity of geometric estimation problems. Our analysis spans ten core vision tasks, from Wahba problem to bundle adjustment, revealing the optimality-robustness-scalability trade-offs that govern solver selection. We identify critical future directions: scaling algorithms while maintaining guarantees, integrating data-driven priors with certifiable optimization, establishing standardized benchmarks, and addressing societal implications for safety-critical deployment. By consolidating theoretical foundations, practical advances, and broader impacts, this survey provides a unified perspective and roadmap toward certifiable, trustworthy perception for real-world applications. However, stringent constraints on training throughput, serving latency, and memory, often limit the complexity and input feature set of online ads ranking models. This challenge is magnified in extensive systems like Meta's, which encompass hundreds of models with diverse specifications, rendering the tailoring of user representation learning for each model impractical. To address these challenges, we present Scaling User Modeling (SUM), a framework widely deployed in Meta's ads ranking system, designed to facilitate efficient and scalable sharing of online user representation across hundreds of ads models. SUM leverages a few designated upstream user models to synthesize user embeddings from massive amounts of user features with advanced modeling techniques. These embeddings then serve as inputs to downstream online ads ranking models, promoting efficient representation sharing. To adapt to the dynamic nature of user features and ensure embedding freshness, we designed SUM Online Asynchronous Platform (SOAP), a latency free online serving system complemented with model freshness and embedding stabilization, which enables frequent user model updates and online inference of user embeddings upon each user request. We share our hands-on deployment experiences for the SUM framework and validate its superiority through comprehensive experiments. To date, SUM has been launched to hundreds of ads ranking models in Meta, processing hundreds of billions of user requests daily, yielding significant online metric gains and improved infrastructure efficiency.

SHAPE: An Unified Approach to Evaluate the Contribution and Cooperation of Individual ModalitiesPengbo Hu, Xingyu Li, Yi Zhou
As deep learning advances, there is an ever-growing demand for models capable of synthesizing information from multi-modal resources to address the complex tasks raised from real-life applications. Recently, many large multi-modal datasets have been collected, on which researchers actively explore different methods of fusing multi-modal information. However, little attention has been paid to quantifying the contribution of different modalities within the proposed models. In this paper, we propose the {\bf SH}apley v{\bf A}lue-based {\bf PE}rceptual (SHAPE) scores that measure the marginal contribution of individual modalities and the degree of cooperation across modalities. Using these scores, we systematically evaluate different fusion methods on different multi-modal datasets for different tasks. Our experiments suggest that for some tasks where different modalities are complementary, the multi-modal models still tend to use the dominant modality alone and ignore the cooperation across modalities. On the other hand, models learn to exploit cross-modal cooperation when different modalities are indispensable for the task. In this case, the scores indicate it is better to fuse different modalities at relatively early stages. We hope our scores can help improve the understanding of how the present multi-modal models operate on different modalities and encourage more sophisticated methods of integrating multiple modalities.

MARVEL: Universal Murray's Law-informed Vessel Tree Segmentation and Topology EstimationYi Zhou, Thiara Sana Ahmed, Jacqueline Chua et al.
Vascular circulation follows fundamental biophysical principles that optimize mass transport and metabolic energy expenditure, which can be effectively modeled by Murray's law. However, contemporary deep learning methods for vascular segmentation often neglect these biophysical constraints. This leads to physiologically implausible branching and misclassification vascular trees, rendering. These automated segmentation results are unreliable unreliable for downstream clinical tasks such as blood flow simulation or disease quantification. In this paper, we introduce MARVEL (Universal MurrAy's law-infoRmed Vessel sEgmentation and topoLogy estimation), a backbone-agnostic framework that integrates biophysical priors into vascular tree extraction. MARVEL combines per-pixel supervision with explicit radius predictions to enforce local bifurcation constraints derived from an empirical width-exponent mapping. We implement these constraints as differentiable regularizers during training to guide models toward physiologically consistent reconstructions. We evaluate MARVEL on eight public datasets across multiple vascular modalities and segmentation backbones. Results demonstrate MARVEL's superior performance in segmentation accuracy, topological consistency, and physiological plausibility. By converting segmented masks into graph-based hemodynamic simulations, we demonstrate that MARVEL preserves the subtle pathological narrowing and topological connectivity required to distinguish hypertensive from normotensive eyes. Results show that MARVEL significantly improves the classification of hypertension via arteriovenous pressure differences in the eye (p < 0.001), outperforming baseline models in both topological consistency and clinical predictive value.

Geometric Flow Matching for Molecular Conformation Generation via Manifold DecompositionYunqing Liu, Yi Zhou, Wenqi Fan
The generation of accurate 3D molecular conformations is a pivotal challenge in computational chemistry and drug discovery. Recently, diffusion and flow matching models have achieved remarkable success. However, there is a critical misalignment between their mathematical formulation and the physical reality of molecules. Existing approaches predominantly treat molecules as unstructured point clouds in Cartesian space, overlooking the intrinsic hierarchical mechanics where bond lengths and bond angles are relatively stiff, whereas torsion angles constitute the dominant flexible degrees of freedom. This lack of manifold awareness forces models to relearn fundamental geometric constraints from scratch, often leading to physically implausible intermediate structures. To address this, we propose GO-Flow that aligns generative modeling with molecular geometry via manifold decomposition. Instead of forcing motion through Euclidean space, GO-Flow decomposes the generation process into three physically motivated subspaces: translation space with linear optimal transport, rotation space with geodesic flows on $SO(3)$, and conformation space with entropic optimal transport. This decomposition injects geometric inductive biases and makes the generative paths better aligned with molecular degrees of freedom. When combined with equivariant neural architectures, it encourages rotation-consistent generation and improves geometric validity. Extensive experiments on GEOM-Drugs and GEOM-QM9 demonstrate that GO-Flow achieves state-of-the-art generation quality. Notably, by learning straighter probability paths on the correct manifolds naturally, our method enables high-fidelity sampling with as few as 50 steps, effectively bridging the gap between structural precision and computational efficiency.

Finite-Time Error Bounds for Greedy-GQYue Wang, Yi Zhou, Shaofeng Zou
Greedy-GQ with linear function approximation, originally proposed in \cite{maei2010toward}, is a value-based off-policy algorithm for optimal control in reinforcement learning, and it has a non-linear two timescale structure with the non-convex objective function. This paper develops its tightest finite-time error bounds. We show that the Greedy-GQ algorithm converges as fast as $\mathcal{O}({1}/{\sqrt{T}})$ under the i.i.d.\ setting and $\mathcal{O}({\log T}/{\sqrt{T}})$ under the Markovian setting. We further design a variant of the vanilla Greedy-GQ algorithm using the nested-loop approach, and show that its sample complexity is $\mathcal{O}({\log(1/ε)ε^{-2}})$, which matches with the one of the vanilla Greedy-GQ. Our finite-time error bounds match with one of the stochastic gradient descent algorithms for general smooth non-convex optimization problems, despite its additonal challenge in the two time-scale updates. Our finite-sample analysis provides theoretical guidance on choosing step-sizes for faster convergence in practice, and suggests the trade-off between the convergence rate and the quality of the obtained policy. Our techniques provide a general approach for finite-sample analysis of non-convex two timescale value-based reinforcement learning algorithms.

Can Word Sense Distribution Detect Semantic Changes of Words?Xiaohang Tang, Yi Zhou, Taichi Aida et al.
Semantic Change Detection (SCD) of words is an important task for various NLP applications that must make time-sensitive predictions. Some words are used over time in novel ways to express new meanings, and these new meanings establish themselves as novel senses of existing words. On the other hand, Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) methods associate ambiguous words with sense ids, depending on the context in which they occur. Given this relationship between WSD and SCD, we explore the possibility of predicting whether a target word has its meaning changed between two corpora collected at different time steps, by comparing the distributions of senses of that word in each corpora. For this purpose, we use pretrained static sense embeddings to automatically annotate each occurrence of the target word in a corpus with a sense id. Next, we compute the distribution of sense ids of a target word in a given corpus. Finally, we use different divergence or distance measures to quantify the semantic change of the target word across the two given corpora. Our experimental results on SemEval 2020 Task 1 dataset show that word sense distributions can be accurately used to predict semantic changes of words in English, German, Swedish and Latin.

Granite Code Models: A Family of Open Foundation Models for Code IntelligenceMayank Mishra, Matt Stallone, Gaoyuan Zhang et al. · ibm-research
Large Language Models (LLMs) trained on code are revolutionizing the software development process. Increasingly, code LLMs are being integrated into software development environments to improve the productivity of human programmers, and LLM-based agents are beginning to show promise for handling complex tasks autonomously. Realizing the full potential of code LLMs requires a wide range of capabilities, including code generation, fixing bugs, explaining and documenting code, maintaining repositories, and more. In this work, we introduce the Granite series of decoder-only code models for code generative tasks, trained with code written in 116 programming languages. The Granite Code models family consists of models ranging in size from 3 to 34 billion parameters, suitable for applications ranging from complex application modernization tasks to on-device memory-constrained use cases. Evaluation on a comprehensive set of tasks demonstrates that Granite Code models consistently reaches state-of-the-art performance among available open-source code LLMs. The Granite Code model family was optimized for enterprise software development workflows and performs well across a range of coding tasks (e.g. code generation, fixing and explanation), making it a versatile all around code model. We release all our Granite Code models under an Apache 2.0 license for both research and commercial use.

DDDM: a Brain-Inspired Framework for Robust ClassificationXiyuan Chen, Xingyu Li, Yi Zhou et al.
Despite their outstanding performance in a broad spectrum of real-world tasks, deep artificial neural networks are sensitive to input noises, particularly adversarial perturbations. On the contrary, human and animal brains are much less vulnerable. In contrast to the one-shot inference performed by most deep neural networks, the brain often solves decision-making with an evidence accumulation mechanism that may trade time for accuracy when facing noisy inputs. The mechanism is well described by the Drift-Diffusion Model (DDM). In the DDM, decision-making is modeled as a process in which noisy evidence is accumulated toward a threshold. Drawing inspiration from the DDM, we propose the Dropout-based Drift-Diffusion Model (DDDM) that combines test-phase dropout and the DDM for improving the robustness for arbitrary neural networks. The dropouts create temporally uncorrelated noises in the network that counter perturbations, while the evidence accumulation mechanism guarantees a reasonable decision accuracy. Neural networks enhanced with the DDDM tested in image, speech, and text classification tasks all significantly outperform their native counterparts, demonstrating the DDDM as a task-agnostic defense against adversarial attacks.
