Semantic-aware Dense Representation Learning for Remote Sensing Image Change Detection

Hao Chen, Wenyuan Li, Song Chen et al.

Supervised deep learning models depend on massive labeled data. Unfortunately, it is time-consuming and labor-intensive to collect and annotate bitemporal samples containing desired changes. Transfer learning from pre-trained models is effective to alleviate label insufficiency in remote sensing (RS) change detection (CD). We explore the use of semantic information during pre-training. Different from traditional supervised pre-training that learns the mapping from image to label, we incorporate semantic supervision into the self-supervised learning (SSL) framework. Typically, multiple objects of interest (e.g., buildings) are distributed in various locations in an uncurated RS image. Instead of manipulating image-level representations via global pooling, we introduce point-level supervision on per-pixel embeddings to learn spatially-sensitive features, thus benefiting downstream dense CD. To achieve this, we obtain multiple points via class-balanced sampling on the overlapped area between views using the semantic mask. We learn an embedding space where background and foreground points are pushed apart, and spatially aligned points across views are pulled together. Our intuition is the resulting semantically discriminative representations invariant to irrelevant changes (illumination and unconcerned land covers) may help change recognition. We collect large-scale image-mask pairs freely available in the RS community for pre-training. Extensive experiments on three CD datasets verify the effectiveness of our method. Ours significantly outperforms ImageNet pre-training, in-domain supervision, and several SSL methods. Empirical results indicate our pre-training improves the generalization and data efficiency of the CD model. Notably, we achieve competitive results using 20% training data than baseline (random initialization) using 100% data. Our code is available.

Sentiment Word Aware Multimodal Refinement for Multimodal Sentiment Analysis with ASR Errors

Yang Wu, Yanyan Zhao, Hao Yang et al.

Multimodal sentiment analysis has attracted increasing attention and lots of models have been proposed. However, the performance of the state-of-the-art models decreases sharply when they are deployed in the real world. We find that the main reason is that real-world applications can only access the text outputs by the automatic speech recognition (ASR) models, which may be with errors because of the limitation of model capacity. Through further analysis of the ASR outputs, we find that in some cases the sentiment words, the key sentiment elements in the textual modality, are recognized as other words, which makes the sentiment of the text change and hurts the performance of multimodal sentiment models directly. To address this problem, we propose the sentiment word aware multimodal refinement model (SWRM), which can dynamically refine the erroneous sentiment words by leveraging multimodal sentiment clues. Specifically, we first use the sentiment word position detection module to obtain the most possible position of the sentiment word in the text and then utilize the multimodal sentiment word refinement module to dynamically refine the sentiment word embeddings. The refined embeddings are taken as the textual inputs of the multimodal feature fusion module to predict the sentiment labels. We conduct extensive experiments on the real-world datasets including MOSI-Speechbrain, MOSI-IBM, and MOSI-iFlytek and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of our model, which surpasses the current state-of-the-art models on three datasets. Furthermore, our approach can be adapted for other multimodal feature fusion models easily. Data and code are available at https://github.com/albertwy/SWRM.

Accelerated Distributed Aggregative Optimization

Jiaxu Liu, Song Chen, Shengze Cai et al.

In this paper, we investigate a distributed aggregative optimization problem in a network, where each agent has its own local cost function which depends not only on the local state variable but also on an aggregated function of state variables from all agents. To accelerate the optimization process, we combine heavy ball and Nesterov's accelerated methods with distributed aggregative gradient tracking, and propose two novel algorithms named DAGT-HB and DAGT-NES for solving the distributed aggregative optimization problem. We analyse that the DAGT-HB and DAGT-NES algorithms can converge to an optimal solution at a global $\mathbf{R}-$linear convergence rate when the objective function is smooth and strongly convex, and when the parameters (e.g., step size and momentum coefficients) are selected within certain ranges. A numerical experiment on the optimal placement problem is given to verify the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed algorithms.

Language-aware Multiple Datasets Detection Pretraining for DETRs

Jing Hao, Song Chen, Xiaodi Wang et al.

Pretraining on large-scale datasets can boost the performance of object detectors while the annotated datasets for object detection are hard to scale up due to the high labor cost. What we possess are numerous isolated filed-specific datasets, thus, it is appealing to jointly pretrain models across aggregation of datasets to enhance data volume and diversity. In this paper, we propose a strong framework for utilizing Multiple datasets to pretrain DETR-like detectors, termed METR, without the need for manual label spaces integration. It converts the typical multi-classification in object detection into binary classification by introducing a pre-trained language model. Specifically, we design a category extraction module for extracting potential categories involved in an image and assign these categories into different queries by language embeddings. Each query is only responsible for predicting a class-specific object. Besides, to adapt our novel detection paradigm, we propose a group bipartite matching strategy that limits the ground truths to match queries assigned to the same category. Extensive experiments demonstrate that METR achieves extraordinary results on either multi-task joint training or the pretrain & finetune paradigm. Notably, our pre-trained models have high flexible transferability and increase the performance upon various DETR-like detectors on COCO val2017 benchmark. Codes will be available after this paper is published.

SASQ: Static Activation Scaling for Quantization-Aware Training in Large Language Models

Shizhuo Mao, Song Chen, Yi Kang

Large language models (LLMs) excel at natural language tasks but face deployment challenges due to their growing size outpacing GPU memory advancements. Model quantization mitigates this issue by lowering weight and activation precision, but existing solutions face fundamental trade-offs: dynamic quantization incurs high computational overhead and poses deployment challenges on edge devices, while static quantization sacrifices accuracy. Existing approaches of quantization-aware training (QAT) further suffer from weight training costs. We propose SASQ: a lightweight QAT framework specifically tailored for activation quantization factors. SASQ exclusively optimizes only the quantization factors (without changing pre-trained weights), enabling static inference with high accuracy while maintaining deployment efficiency. SASQ adaptively truncates some outliers, thereby reducing the difficulty of quantization while preserving the distributional characteristics of the activations. SASQ not only surpasses existing SOTA quantization schemes but also outperforms the corresponding FP16 models. On LLaMA2-7B, it achieves 5.2% lower perplexity than QuaRot and 4.7% lower perplexity than the FP16 model on WikiText2.

An FPGA Implementation of Displacement Vector Search for Intra Pattern Copy in JPEG XS

Qiyue Chen, Yao Li, Jie Tao et al.

Recently, progress has been made on the Intra Pattern Copy (IPC) tool for JPEG XS, an image compression standard designed for low-latency and low-complexity coding. IPC performs wavelet-domain intra compensation predictions to reduce spatial redundancy in screen content. A key module of IPC is the displacement vector (DV) search, which aims to solve the optimal prediction reference offset. However, the DV search process is computationally intensive, posing challenges for practical hardware deployment. In this paper, we propose an efficient pipelined FPGA architecture design for the DV search module to promote the practical deployment of IPC. Optimized memory organization, which leverages the IPC computational characteristics and data inherent reuse patterns, is further introduced to enhance the performance. Experimental results show that our proposed architecture achieves a throughput of 38.3 Mpixels/s with a power consumption of 277 mW, demonstrating its feasibility for practical hardware implementation in IPC and other predictive coding tools, and providing a promising foundation for ASIC deployment.

Graph Attention-Based Symmetry Constraint Extraction for Analog Circuits

Qi Xu, Lijie Wang, Jing Wang et al.

In recent years, analog circuits have received extensive attention and are widely used in many emerging applications. The high demand for analog circuits necessitates shorter circuit design cycles. To achieve the desired performance and specifications, various geometrical symmetry constraints must be carefully considered during the analog layout process. However, the manual labeling of these constraints by experienced analog engineers is a laborious and time-consuming process. To handle the costly runtime issue, we propose a graph-based learning framework to automatically extract symmetric constraints in analog circuit layout. The proposed framework leverages the connection characteristics of circuits and the devices' information to learn the general rules of symmetric constraints, which effectively facilitates the extraction of device-level constraints on circuit netlists. The experimental results demonstrate that compared to state-of-the-art symmetric constraint detection approaches, our framework achieves higher accuracy and F1-score.

VeriGRAG: Enhancing LLM-Based Verilog Code Generation with Structure-Aware Soft Prompts

Jiayu Zhao, Song Chen

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated strong capabilities in generating Verilog code from natural language descriptions. However, Verilog code inherently encodes structural information of hardware circuits. Effectively leveraging this structural information to enhance the functional and syntactic correctness of LLM-generated Verilog code remains a significant challenge. To address this challenge, we propose VeriGRAG , a novel framework that extracts structural graph embeddings from Verilog code using graph neural networks (GNNs). A multimodal retriever then selects the graph embeddings most relevant to the given generation task, which are aligned with the code modality through the VeriFormer module to generate structure-aware soft prompts. Our experiments demonstrate that VeriGRAG substantially improves the correctness of Verilog code generation, achieving state-of-the-art or superior performance across both VerilogEval and RTLLM benchmarks.

Semantic decoupled representation learning for remote sensing image change detection

Hao Chen, Yifan Zao, Liqin Liu et al.

Contemporary transfer learning-based methods to alleviate the data insufficiency in change detection (CD) are mainly based on ImageNet pre-training. Self-supervised learning (SSL) has recently been introduced to remote sensing (RS) for learning in-domain representations. Here, we propose a semantic decoupled representation learning for RS image CD. Typically, the object of interest (e.g., building) is relatively small compared to the vast background. Different from existing methods expressing an image into one representation vector that may be dominated by irrelevant land-covers, we disentangle representations of different semantic regions by leveraging the semantic mask. We additionally force the model to distinguish different semantic representations, which benefits the recognition of objects of interest in the downstream CD task. We construct a dataset of bitemporal images with semantic masks in an effortless manner for pre-training. Experiments on two CD datasets show our model outperforms ImageNet pre-training, in-domain supervised pre-training, and several recent SSL methods.

Realtime CNN-based Keypoint Detector with Sobel Filter and CNN-based Descriptor Trained with Keypoint Candidates

Xun Yuan, Ke Hu, Song Chen

The local feature detector and descriptor are essential in many computer vision tasks, such as SLAM and 3D reconstruction. In this paper, we introduce two separate CNNs, lightweight SobelNet and DesNet, to detect key points and to compute dense local descriptors. The detector and the descriptor work in parallel. Sobel filter provides the edge structure of the input images as the input of CNN. The locations of key points will be obtained after exerting the non-maximum suppression (NMS) process on the output map of the CNN. We design Gaussian loss for the training process of SobelNet to detect corner points as keypoints. At the same time, the input of DesNet is the original grayscale image, and circle loss is used to train DesNet. Besides, output maps of SobelNet are needed while training DesNet. We have evaluated our method on several benchmarks including HPatches benchmark, ETH benchmark, and FM-Bench. SobelNet achieves better or comparable performance with less computation compared with SOTA methods in recent years. The inference time of an image of 640x480 is 7.59ms and 1.09ms for SobelNet and DesNet respectively on RTX 2070 SUPER.
