XIMAGENET-12: An Explainable AI Benchmark Dataset for Model Robustness EvaluationQiang Li, Dan Zhang, Shengzhao Lei et al.
Despite the promising performance of existing visual models on public benchmarks, the critical assessment of their robustness for real-world applications remains an ongoing challenge. To bridge this gap, we propose an explainable visual dataset, XIMAGENET-12, to evaluate the robustness of visual models. XIMAGENET-12 consists of over 200K images with 15,410 manual semantic annotations. Specifically, we deliberately selected 12 categories from ImageNet, representing objects commonly encountered in practical life. To simulate real-world situations, we incorporated six diverse scenarios, such as overexposure, blurring, and color changes, etc. We further develop a quantitative criterion for robustness assessment, allowing for a nuanced understanding of how visual models perform under varying conditions, notably in relation to the background. We make the XIMAGENET-12 dataset and its corresponding code openly accessible at \url{https://sites.google.com/view/ximagenet-12/home}. We expect the introduction of the XIMAGENET-12 dataset will empower researchers to thoroughly evaluate the robustness of their visual models under challenging conditions.

Embedding Generalized Semantic Knowledge into Few-Shot Remote Sensing SegmentationYuyu Jia, Wei Huang, Junyu Gao et al.
Few-shot segmentation (FSS) for remote sensing (RS) imagery leverages supporting information from limited annotated samples to achieve query segmentation of novel classes. Previous efforts are dedicated to mining segmentation-guiding visual cues from a constrained set of support samples. However, they still struggle to address the pronounced intra-class differences in RS images, as sparse visual cues make it challenging to establish robust class-specific representations. In this paper, we propose a holistic semantic embedding (HSE) approach that effectively harnesses general semantic knowledge, i.e., class description (CD) embeddings.Instead of the naive combination of CD embeddings and visual features for segmentation decoding, we investigate embedding the general semantic knowledge during the feature extraction stage.Specifically, in HSE, a spatial dense interaction module allows the interaction of visual support features with CD embeddings along the spatial dimension via self-attention.Furthermore, a global content modulation module efficiently augments the global information of the target category in both support and query features, thanks to the transformative fusion of visual features and CD embeddings. These two components holistically synergize general CD embeddings and visual cues, constructing a robust class-specific representation.Through extensive experiments on the standard FSS benchmark, the proposed HSE approach demonstrates superior performance compared to peer work, setting a new state-of-the-art.

StyleSeg V2: Towards Robust One-shot Segmentation of Brain Tissue via Optimization-free Registration Error PerceptionZhiwei Wang, Xiaoyu Zeng, Chongwei Wu et al.
One-shot segmentation of brain tissue requires training registration-segmentation (reg-seg) dual-model iteratively, where reg-model aims to provide pseudo masks of unlabeled images for seg-model by warping a carefully-labeled atlas. However, the imperfect reg-model induces image-mask misalignment, poisoning the seg-model subsequently. Recent StyleSeg bypasses this bottleneck by replacing the unlabeled images with their warped copies of atlas, but needs to borrow the diverse image patterns via style transformation. Here, we present StyleSeg V2, inherited from StyleSeg but granted the ability of perceiving the registration errors. The motivation is that good registration behaves in a mirrored fashion for mirrored images. Therefore, almost at no cost, StyleSeg V2 can have reg-model itself "speak out" incorrectly-aligned regions by simply mirroring (symmetrically flipping the brain) its input, and the registration errors are symmetric inconsistencies between the outputs of original and mirrored inputs. Consequently, StyleSeg V2 allows the seg-model to make use of correctly-aligned regions of unlabeled images and also enhances the fidelity of style-transformed warped atlas image by weighting the local transformation strength according to registration errors. The experimental results on three public datasets demonstrate that our proposed StyleSeg V2 outperforms other state-of-the-arts by considerable margins, and exceeds StyleSeg by increasing the average Dice by at least 2.4%.

Spatial-Spectral Residual Network for Hyperspectral Image Super-ResolutionQi Wang, Qiang Li, Xuelong Li
Deep learning-based hyperspectral image super-resolution (SR) methods have achieved great success recently. However, most existing models can not effectively explore spatial information and spectral information between bands simultaneously, obtaining relatively low performance. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a novel spectral-spatial residual network for hyperspectral image super-resolution (SSRNet). Our method can effectively explore spatial-spectral information by using 3D convolution instead of 2D convolution, which enables the network to better extract potential information. Furthermore, we design a spectral-spatial residual module (SSRM) to adaptively learn more effective features from all the hierarchical features in units through local feature fusion, significantly improving the performance of the algorithm. In each unit, we employ spatial and temporal separable 3D convolution to extract spatial and spectral information, which not only reduces unaffordable memory usage and high computational cost, but also makes the network easier to train. Extensive evaluations and comparisons on three benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves superior performance in comparison to existing state-of-the-art methods.
