Correcting the Sub-optimal Bit Allocation

Tongda Xu, Han Gao, Yuanyuan Wang et al.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of bit allocation in Neural Video Compression (NVC). First, we reveal that a recent bit allocation approach claimed to be optimal is, in fact, sub-optimal due to its implementation. Specifically, we find that its sub-optimality lies in the improper application of semi-amortized variational inference (SAVI) on latent with non-factorized variational posterior. Then, we show that the corrected version of SAVI on non-factorized latent requires recursively applying back-propagating through gradient ascent, based on which we derive the corrected optimal bit allocation algorithm. Due to the computational in-feasibility of the corrected bit allocation, we design an efficient approximation to make it practical. Empirical results show that our proposed correction significantly improves the incorrect bit allocation in terms of R-D performance and bitrate error, and outperforms all other bit allocation methods by a large margin. The source code is provided in the supplementary material.

Contrastive Private Data Synthesis via Weighted Multi-PLM Fusion

Tianyuan Zou, Yang Liu, Peng Li et al. · tsinghua

Substantial quantity and high quality are the golden rules of making a good training dataset with sample privacy protection equally important. Generating synthetic samples that resemble high-quality private data while ensuring Differential Privacy (DP), a formal privacy guarantee, promises scalability and practicality. However, existing methods relying on pre-trained models for data synthesis %that avoid fine-tuning large pre-trained generative models often struggle in data-deficient scenarios, suffering from limited sample size, inevitable generation noise and existing pre-trained model bias. To address these challenges, we propose a novel contrAstive private data Synthesis via Weighted multiple Pre-trained language models (PLM) framework, named as WASP. WASP utilizes limited private samples for more accurate private data distribution estimation via a Top-Q voting mechanism, and leverages low-quality synthetic samples for contrastive generation via collaboration among dynamically weighted multiple pre-trained models.Extensive experiments on 6 well-developed datasets with 6 open-source and 3 closed-source PLMs demonstrate the superiority of WASP in improving model performance over diverse downstream tasks. DGGT: Feedforward 4D Reconstruction of Dynamic Driving Scenes using Unposed Images

Xiaoxue Chen, Ziyi Xiong, Yuantao Chen et al.

Autonomous driving needs fast, scalable 4D reconstruction and re-simulation for training and evaluation, yet most methods for dynamic driving scenes still rely on per-scene optimization, known camera calibration, or short frame windows, making them slow and impractical. We revisit this problem from a feedforward perspective and introduce \textbf{Driving Gaussian Grounded Transformer (DGGT)}, a unified framework for pose-free dynamic scene reconstruction. We note that the existing formulations, treating camera pose as a required input, limit flexibility and scalability. Instead, we reformulate pose as an output of the model, enabling reconstruction directly from sparse, unposed images and supporting an arbitrary number of views for long sequences. Our approach jointly predicts per-frame 3D Gaussian maps and camera parameters, disentangles dynamics with a lightweight dynamic head, and preserves temporal consistency with a lifespan head that modulates visibility over time. A diffusion-based rendering refinement further reduces motion/interpolation artifacts and improves novel-view quality under sparse inputs. The result is a single-pass, pose-free algorithm that achieves state-of-the-art performance and speed. Trained and evaluated on large-scale driving benchmarks (Waymo, nuScenes, Argoverse2), our method outperforms prior work both when trained on each dataset and in zero-shot transfer across datasets, and it scales well as the number of input frames increases.

X-VLA: Soft-Prompted Transformer as Scalable Cross-Embodiment Vision-Language-Action Model

Jinliang Zheng, Jianxiong Li, Zhihao Wang et al. · tsinghua

Successful generalist Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models rely on effective training across diverse robotic platforms with large-scale, cross-embodiment, heterogeneous datasets. To facilitate and leverage the heterogeneity in rich, diverse robotic data sources, we propose a novel Soft Prompt approach with minimally added parameters, by infusing prompt learning concepts into cross-embodiment robot learning and introducing separate sets of learnable embeddings for each distinct data source. These embeddings serve as embodiment-specific prompts, which in unity empower VLA models with effective exploitation of varying cross-embodiment features. Our new X-VLA, a neat flow-matching-based VLA architecture, relies exclusively on soft-prompted standard Transformer encoders, enjoying both scalability and simplicity. Evaluated across 6 simulations as well as 3 real-world robots, our 0.9B instantiation-X-VLA-0.9B simultaneously achieves SOTA performance over a sweep of benchmarks, demonstrating superior results on a wide axes of capabilities, from flexible dexterity to quick adaptation across embodiments, environments, and tasks. InvRGB+L: Inverse Rendering of Complex Scenes with Unified Color and LiDAR Reflectance Modeling

Xiaoxue Chen, Bhargav Chandaka, Chih-Hao Lin et al.

We present InvRGB+L, a novel inverse rendering model that reconstructs large, relightable, and dynamic scenes from a single RGB+LiDAR sequence. Conventional inverse graphics methods rely primarily on RGB observations and use LiDAR mainly for geometric information, often resulting in suboptimal material estimates due to visible light interference. We find that LiDAR's intensity values-captured with active illumination in a different spectral range-offer complementary cues for robust material estimation under variable lighting. Inspired by this, InvRGB+L leverages LiDAR intensity cues to overcome challenges inherent in RGB-centric inverse graphics through two key innovations: (1) a novel physics-based LiDAR shading model and (2) RGB-LiDAR material consistency losses. The model produces novel-view RGB and LiDAR renderings of urban and indoor scenes and supports relighting, night simulations, and dynamic object insertions, achieving results that surpass current state-of-the-art methods in both scene-level urban inverse rendering and LiDAR simulation.

From Theory to Therapy: Reframing SBDD Model Evaluation via Practical Metrics

Bowen Gao, Haichuan Tan, Yanwen Huang et al.

Recent advancements in structure-based drug design (SBDD) have significantly enhanced the efficiency and precision of drug discovery by generating molecules tailored to bind specific protein pockets. Despite these technological strides, their practical application in real-world drug development remains challenging due to the complexities of synthesizing and testing these molecules. The reliability of the Vina docking score, the current standard for assessing binding abilities, is increasingly questioned due to its susceptibility to overfitting. To address these limitations, we propose a comprehensive evaluation framework that includes assessing the similarity of generated molecules to known active compounds, introducing a virtual screening-based metric for practical deployment capabilities, and re-evaluating binding affinity more rigorously. Our experiments reveal that while current SBDD models achieve high Vina scores, they fall short in practical usability metrics, highlighting a significant gap between theoretical predictions and real-world applicability. Our proposed metrics and dataset aim to bridge this gap, enhancing the practical applicability of future SBDD models and aligning them more closely with the needs of pharmaceutical research and development.

PQ-Transformer: Jointly Parsing 3D Objects and Layouts from Point Clouds

Xiaoxue Chen, Hao Zhao, Guyue Zhou et al.

3D scene understanding from point clouds plays a vital role for various robotic applications. Unfortunately, current state-of-the-art methods use separate neural networks for different tasks like object detection or room layout estimation. Such a scheme has two limitations: 1) Storing and running several networks for different tasks are expensive for typical robotic platforms. 2) The intrinsic structure of separate outputs are ignored and potentially violated. To this end, we propose the first transformer architecture that predicts 3D objects and layouts simultaneously, using point cloud inputs. Unlike existing methods that either estimate layout keypoints or edges, we directly parameterize room layout as a set of quads. As such, the proposed architecture is termed as P(oint)Q(uad)-Transformer. Along with the novel quad representation, we propose a tailored physical constraint loss function that discourages object-layout interference. The quantitative and qualitative evaluations on the public benchmark ScanNet show that the proposed PQ-Transformer succeeds to jointly parse 3D objects and layouts, running at a quasi-real-time (8.91 FPS) rate without efficiency-oriented optimization. Moreover, the new physical constraint loss can improve strong baselines, and the F1-score of the room layout is significantly promoted from 37.9% to 57.9%.
