Baichuan-Omni-1.5 Technical Report

Yadong Li, Jun Liu, Tao Zhang et al.

We introduce Baichuan-Omni-1.5, an omni-modal model that not only has omni-modal understanding capabilities but also provides end-to-end audio generation capabilities. To achieve fluent and high-quality interaction across modalities without compromising the capabilities of any modality, we prioritized optimizing three key aspects. First, we establish a comprehensive data cleaning and synthesis pipeline for multimodal data, obtaining about 500B high-quality data (text, audio, and vision). Second, an audio-tokenizer (Baichuan-Audio-Tokenizer) has been designed to capture both semantic and acoustic information from audio, enabling seamless integration and enhanced compatibility with MLLM. Lastly, we designed a multi-stage training strategy that progressively integrates multimodal alignment and multitask fine-tuning, ensuring effective synergy across all modalities. Baichuan-Omni-1.5 leads contemporary models (including GPT4o-mini and MiniCPM-o 2.6) in terms of comprehensive omni-modal capabilities. Notably, it achieves results comparable to leading models such as Qwen2-VL-72B across various multimodal medical benchmarks.

Contextual Restless Multi-Armed Bandits with Application to Demand Response Decision-Making

Xin Chen, I-Hong Hou

This paper introduces a novel multi-armed bandits framework, termed Contextual Restless Bandits (CRB), for complex online decision-making. This CRB framework incorporates the core features of contextual bandits and restless bandits, so that it can model both the internal state transitions of each arm and the influence of external global environmental contexts. Using the dual decomposition method, we develop a scalable index policy algorithm for solving the CRB problem, and theoretically analyze the asymptotical optimality of this algorithm. In the case when the arm models are unknown, we further propose a model-based online learning algorithm based on the index policy to learn the arm models and make decisions simultaneously. Furthermore, we apply the proposed CRB framework and the index policy algorithm specifically to the demand response decision-making problem in smart grids. The numerical simulations demonstrate the performance and efficiency of our proposed CRB approaches.

TrInk: Ink Generation with Transformer Network

Zezhong Jin, Shubhang Desai, Xu Chen et al.

In this paper, we propose TrInk, a Transformer-based model for ink generation, which effectively captures global dependencies. To better facilitate the alignment between the input text and generated stroke points, we introduce scaled positional embeddings and a Gaussian memory mask in the cross-attention module. Additionally, we design both subjective and objective evaluation pipelines to comprehensively assess the legibility and style consistency of the generated handwriting. Experiments demonstrate that our Transformer-based model achieves a 35.56\% reduction in character error rate (CER) and an 29.66% reduction in word error rate (WER) on the IAM-OnDB dataset compared to previous methods. We provide an demo page with handwriting samples from TrInk and baseline models at: https://akahello-a11y.github.io/trink-demo/

Active Sampling for Node Attribute Completion on Graphs

Benyuan Liu, Xu Chen, Yanfeng Wang et al.

Node attribute, a type of crucial information for graph analysis, may be partially or completely missing for certain nodes in real world applications. Restoring the missing attributes is expected to benefit downstream graph learning. Few attempts have been made on node attribute completion, but a novel framework called Structure-attribute Transformer (SAT) was recently proposed by using a decoupled scheme to leverage structures and attributes. SAT ignores the differences in contributing to the learning schedule and finding a practical way to model the different importance of nodes with observed attributes is challenging. This paper proposes a novel AcTive Sampling algorithm (ATS) to restore missing node attributes. The representativeness and uncertainty of each node's information are first measured based on graph structure, representation similarity and learning bias. To select nodes as train samples in the next optimization step, a weighting scheme controlled by Beta distribution is then introduced to linearly combine the two properties. Extensive experiments on four public benchmark datasets and two downstream tasks have shown the superiority of ATS in node attribute completion.

Data hiding in Fingerprint Minutiae Template for Privacy Protection

Sheng Li, Xin Chen, Zhigao Zheng et al.

In this paper, we propose a novel scheme for data hiding in the fingerprint minutiae template, which is the most popular in fingerprint recognition systems. Various strategies are proposed in data embedding in order to maintain the accuracy of fingerprint recognition as well as the undetectability of data hiding. In bits replacement based data embedding, we replace the last few bits of each element of the original minutiae template with the data to be hidden. This strategy can be further improved using an optimized bits replacement based data embedding, which is able to minimize the impact of data hiding on the performance of fingerprint recognition. The third strategy is an order preserving mechanism which is proposed to reduce the detectability of data hiding. By using such a mechanism, it would be difficult for the attacker to differentiate the minutiae template with hidden data from the original minutiae templates. The experimental results show that the proposed data hiding scheme achieves sufficient capacity for hiding common personal data, where the accuracy of fingerprint recognition is acceptable after the data hiding.
