MESH2IR: Neural Acoustic Impulse Response Generator for Complex 3D Scenes

We propose a mesh-based neural network (MESH2IR) to generate acoustic impulse responses (IRs) for indoor 3D scenes represented using a mesh. The IRs are used to create a high-quality sound experience in interactive applications and audio processing. Our method can handle input triangular meshes with arbitrary topologies (2K - 3M triangles). We present a novel training technique to train MESH2IR using energy decay relief and highlight its benefits. We also show that training MESH2IR on IRs preprocessed using our proposed technique significantly improves the accuracy of IR generation. We reduce the non-linearity in the mesh space by transforming 3D scene meshes to latent space using a graph convolution network. Our MESH2IR is more than 200 times faster than a geometric acoustic algorithm on a CPU and can generate more than 10,000 IRs per second on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GPU for a given furnished indoor 3D scene. The acoustic metrics are used to characterize the acoustic environment. We show that the acoustic metrics of the IRs predicted from our MESH2IR match the ground truth with less than 10% error. We also highlight the benefits of MESH2IR on audio and speech processing applications such as speech dereverberation and speech separation. To the best of our knowledge, ours is the first neural-network-based approach to predict IRs from a given 3D scene mesh in real-time.

Exploring Data Redundancy in Real-world Image Classification through Data Selection

Deep learning models often require large amounts of data for training, leading to increased costs. It is particularly challenging in medical imaging, i.e., gathering distributed data for centralized training, and meanwhile, obtaining quality labels remains a tedious job. Many methods have been proposed to address this issue in various training paradigms, e.g., continual learning, active learning, and federated learning, which indeed demonstrate certain forms of the data valuation process. However, existing methods are either overly intuitive or limited to common clean/toy datasets in the experiments. In this work, we present two data valuation metrics based on Synaptic Intelligence and gradient norms, respectively, to study the redundancy in real-world image data. Novel online and offline data selection algorithms are then proposed via clustering and grouping based on the examined data values. Our online approach effectively evaluates data utilizing layerwise model parameter updates and gradients in each epoch and can accelerate model training with fewer epochs and a subset (e.g., 19%-59%) of data while maintaining equivalent levels of accuracy in a variety of datasets. It also extends to the offline coreset construction, producing subsets of only 18%-30% of the original. RH20T: A Comprehensive Robotic Dataset for Learning Diverse Skills in One-Shot

A key challenge in robotic manipulation in open domains is how to acquire diverse and generalizable skills for robots. Recent research in one-shot imitation learning has shown promise in transferring trained policies to new tasks based on demonstrations. This feature is attractive for enabling robots to acquire new skills and improving task and motion planning. However, due to limitations in the training dataset, the current focus of the community has mainly been on simple cases, such as push or pick-place tasks, relying solely on visual guidance. In reality, there are many complex skills, some of which may even require both visual and tactile perception to solve. This paper aims to unlock the potential for an agent to generalize to hundreds of real-world skills with multi-modal perception. To achieve this, we have collected a dataset comprising over 110,000 contact-rich robot manipulation sequences across diverse skills, contexts, robots, and camera viewpoints, all collected in the real world. Each sequence in the dataset includes visual, force, audio, and action information. Moreover, we also provide a corresponding human demonstration video and a language description for each robot sequence. We have invested significant efforts in calibrating all the sensors and ensuring a high-quality dataset. The dataset is made publicly available at rh20t.github.io

MBench: A Comprehensive Benchmark on Memory Capability for Video World Models

Recent advancements in video-based world models have demonstrated an unprecedented ability to synthesize high-fidelity visual sequences. However, a fundamental gap persists between visually plausible video generation and the functional requirements of a world model, particularly in maintaining a stable and reasonable internal state over extended temporal horizons. While existing benchmarks primarily emphasize visual quality, motion coherence, and text-video alignment, they largely overlook memory, the core capability of a world model to preserve consistency across long-term horizons and complex interactions. To address this gap, we present \textbf{MBench}, a comprehensive benchmark dedicated to quantifying and evaluating the memory capability of video world models. We systematically decompose the memory capability of video world models into three hierarchical and complementary core dimensions: entity consistency, environment consistency, and causal consistency, which are further refined into 12 quantifiable sub-dimensions for comprehensive characterization of long-term memory. Our benchmark is built upon rigorously curated real-captured long videos, and evaluated by rule-based quantitative matrices and VLM to enable objective and comprehensive consistency assessment. Extensive evaluations of mainstream state-of-the-art video world models reveal critical systemic limitations of existing methods in long-term state retention, providing a standardized benchmark and clear research direction to advance the field.

Synthetic Wave-Geometric Impulse Responses for Improved Speech Dereverberation

We present a novel approach to improve the performance of learning-based speech dereverberation using accurate synthetic datasets. Our approach is designed to recover the reverb-free signal from a reverberant speech signal. We show that accurately simulating the low-frequency components of Room Impulse Responses (RIRs) is important to achieving good dereverberation. We use the GWA dataset that consists of synthetic RIRs generated in a hybrid fashion: an accurate wave-based solver is used to simulate the lower frequencies and geometric ray tracing methods simulate the higher frequencies. We demonstrate that speech dereverberation models trained on hybrid synthetic RIRs outperform models trained on RIRs generated by prior geometric ray tracing methods on four real-world RIR datasets.

SCP: Accelerating Discovery with a Global Web of Autonomous Scientific Agents

We introduce SCP: the Science Context Protocol, an open-source standard designed to accelerate discovery by enabling a global network of autonomous scientific agents. SCP is built on two foundational pillars: (1) Unified Resource Integration: At its core, SCP provides a universal specification for describing and invoking scientific resources, spanning software tools, models, datasets, and physical instruments. This protocol-level standardization enables AI agents and applications to discover, call, and compose capabilities seamlessly across disparate platforms and institutional boundaries. (2) Orchestrated Experiment Lifecycle Management: SCP complements the protocol with a secure service architecture, which comprises a centralized SCP Hub and federated SCP Servers. This architecture manages the complete experiment lifecycle (registration, planning, execution, monitoring, and archival), enforces fine-grained authentication and authorization, and orchestrates traceable, end-to-end workflows that bridge computational and physical laboratories. Based on SCP, we have constructed a scientific discovery platform that offers researchers and agents a large-scale ecosystem of more than 1,600 tool resources. Across diverse use cases, SCP facilitates secure, large-scale collaboration between heterogeneous AI systems and human researchers while significantly reducing integration overhead and enhancing reproducibility. By standardizing scientific context and tool orchestration at the protocol level, SCP establishes essential infrastructure for scalable, multi-institution, agent-driven science.

Cycle3D: High-quality and Consistent Image-to-3D Generation via Generation-Reconstruction Cycle

Recent 3D large reconstruction models typically employ a two-stage process, including first generate multi-view images by a multi-view diffusion model, and then utilize a feed-forward model to reconstruct images to 3D content.However, multi-view diffusion models often produce low-quality and inconsistent images, adversely affecting the quality of the final 3D reconstruction. To address this issue, we propose a unified 3D generation framework called Cycle3D, which cyclically utilizes a 2D diffusion-based generation module and a feed-forward 3D reconstruction module during the multi-step diffusion process. Concretely, 2D diffusion model is applied for generating high-quality texture, and the reconstruction model guarantees multi-view consistency.Moreover, 2D diffusion model can further control the generated content and inject reference-view information for unseen views, thereby enhancing the diversity and texture consistency of 3D generation during the denoising process. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior ability of our method to create 3D content with high-quality and consistency compared with state-of-the-art baselines.

MoE-LLaVA: Mixture of Experts for Large Vision-Language Models

Recent advances demonstrate that scaling Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) effectively improves downstream task performances. However, existing scaling methods enable all model parameters to be active for each token in the calculation, which brings massive training and inferring costs. In this work, we propose a simple yet effective training strategy MoE-Tuning for LVLMs. This strategy innovatively addresses the common issue of performance degradation in multi-modal sparsity learning, consequently constructing a sparse model with an outrageous number of parameters but a constant computational cost. Furthermore, we present the MoE-LLaVA, a MoE-based sparse LVLM architecture, which uniquely activates only the top-k experts through routers during deployment, keeping the remaining experts inactive. Extensive experiments show the significant performance of MoE-LLaVA in a variety of visual understanding and object hallucination benchmarks. Remarkably, with only approximately 3B sparsely activated parameters, MoE-LLaVA demonstrates performance comparable to the LLaVA-1.5-7B on various visual understanding datasets and even surpasses the LLaVA-1.5-13B in object hallucination benchmark. Through MoE-LLaVA, we aim to establish a baseline for sparse LVLMs and provide valuable insights for future research in developing more efficient and effective multi-modal learning systems. Open-Sora Plan: Open-Source Large Video Generation Model

We introduce Open-Sora Plan, an open-source project that aims to contribute a large generation model for generating desired high-resolution videos with long durations based on various user inputs. Our project comprises multiple components for the entire video generation process, including a Wavelet-Flow Variational Autoencoder, a Joint Image-Video Skiparse Denoiser, and various condition controllers. Moreover, many assistant strategies for efficient training and inference are designed, and a multi-dimensional data curation pipeline is proposed for obtaining desired high-quality data. Benefiting from efficient thoughts, our Open-Sora Plan achieves impressive video generation results in both qualitative and quantitative evaluations. We hope our careful design and practical experience can inspire the video generation research community. Epona: Autoregressive Diffusion World Model for Autonomous Driving

Diffusion models have demonstrated exceptional visual quality in video generation, making them promising for autonomous driving world modeling. However, existing video diffusion-based world models struggle with flexible-length, long-horizon predictions and integrating trajectory planning. This is because conventional video diffusion models rely on global joint distribution modeling of fixed-length frame sequences rather than sequentially constructing localized distributions at each timestep. In this work, we propose Epona, an autoregressive diffusion world model that enables localized spatiotemporal distribution modeling through two key innovations: 1) Decoupled spatiotemporal factorization that separates temporal dynamics modeling from fine-grained future world generation, and 2) Modular trajectory and video prediction that seamlessly integrate motion planning with visual modeling in an end-to-end framework. Our architecture enables high-resolution, long-duration generation while introducing a novel chain-of-forward training strategy to address error accumulation in autoregressive loops. Experimental results demonstrate state-of-the-art performance with 7.4\% FVD improvement and minutes longer prediction duration compared to prior works. The learned world model further serves as a real-time motion planner, outperforming strong end-to-end planners on NAVSIM benchmarks. Scaling Speech Tokenizers with Diffusion Autoencoders

Speech tokenizers are foundational to speech language models, yet existing approaches face two major challenges: (1) balancing trade-offs between encoding semantics for understanding and acoustics for reconstruction, and (2) achieving low bit rates and low token rates. We propose Speech Diffusion Tokenizer (SiTok), a diffusion autoencoder that jointly learns semantic-rich representations through supervised learning and enables high-fidelity audio reconstruction with diffusion. We scale SiTok to 1.6B parameters and train it on 2 million hours of speech. Experiments show that SiTok outperforms strong baselines on understanding, reconstruction and generation tasks, at an extremely low token rate of $12.5$ Hz and a bit-rate of 200 bits-per-second.

MolClaw: An Autonomous Agent with Hierarchical Skills for Drug Molecule Evaluation, Screening, and Optimization

Computational drug discovery, particularly the complex workflows of drug molecule screening and optimization, requires orchestrating dozens of specialized tools in multi-step workflows, yet current AI agents struggle to maintain robust performance and consistently underperform in these high-complexity scenarios. Here we present MolClaw, an autonomous agent that leads drug molecule evaluation, screening, and optimization. It unifies over 30 specialized domain resources through a three-tier hierarchical skill architecture (70 skills in total) that facilitates agent long-term interaction at runtime: tool-level skills standardize atomic operations, workflow-level skills compose them into validated pipelines with quality check and reflection, and a discipline-level skill supplies scientific principles governing planning and verification across all scenarios in the field. Additionally, we introduce MolBench, a benchmark comprising molecular screening, optimization, and end-to-end discovery challenges spanning 8 to 50+ sequential tool calls. MolClaw achieves state-of-the-art performance across all metrics, and ablation studies confirm that gains concentrate on tasks that demand structured workflows while vanishing on those solvable with ad hoc scripting, establishing workflow orchestration competence as the primary capability bottleneck for AI-driven drug discovery.

Unleashing Scientific Reasoning for Bio-experimental Protocol Generation via Structured Component-based Reward Mechanism

The foundation of reproducible science lies in protocols that are precise, logically ordered, and executable. The autonomous generation of these protocols through natural language queries could greatly improve the efficiency of the reproduction process. However, current leading large language models (LLMs) often generate incomplete or inconsistent protocols, limiting their utility. To address this limitation, we first introduce SciRecipe, a large-scale dataset of over 12K structured protocols spanning 27 biological subfields and encompassing both comprehension and problem-solving tasks. To further improve protocol generation, we propose the "Sketch-and-Fill" paradigm, which separates analysis, structuring, and expression to ensure each step is explicit and verifiable. Complementing this, the structured component-based reward mechanism evaluates step granularity, action order, and semantic fidelity, aligning model optimization with experimental reliability. Building on these components, we develop Thoth, trained through a staged Knowledge-to-Action process that progresses from knowledge acquisition to operational reasoning and ultimately to robust, executable protocol generation. Across multiple benchmarks, Thoth consistently surpasses both proprietary and open-source LLMs, achieving significant improvements in step alignment, logical sequencing, and semantic accuracy. Our approach paves the way for reliable scientific assistants that bridge knowledge with experimental execution. All data, code, and models will be released publicly.

InvCoSS: Inversion-driven Continual Self-supervised Learning in Medical Multi-modal Image Pre-training

Continual self-supervised learning (CSSL) in medical imaging trains a foundation model sequentially, alleviating the need for collecting multi-modal images for joint training and offering promising improvements in downstream performance while preserving data privacy. However, most existing methods still rely on replaying data from previous stages to prevent catastrophic forgetting, which compromises privacy and limits their applicability in real-world scenarios where data transfer across sites is often restricted. In this work, we propose InvCoSS, an inversion-driven continual self-supervised learning framework for medical multi-modal image pre-training. Specifically, after training on a previous task, InvCoSS inverts the pre-trained self-supervised model to generate synthetic images that approximate the original training distribution. These synthetic images are then combined with data from the new task for joint optimization, which effectively mitigates catastrophic forgetting while strictly adhering to the constraint of no access to previous real data. Furthermore, to improve the fidelity of synthetic images, we introduce a novel InvUNet with a multi-scale fusion architecture to restore both high- and low-frequency components of the inverted images. To enhance diversity and prevent mode collapse, we design a repulsive representation-learning mechanism that encourages a diverse feature space for synthetic images without class guidance. Extensive experiments across nine downstream tasks validate the effectiveness of InvCoSS, achieving performance comparable to or even superior to prior data-replay methods while significantly reducing storage requirements and eliminating data privacy constraints.

Vevo: Controllable Zero-Shot Voice Imitation with Self-Supervised Disentanglement

The imitation of voice, targeted on specific speech attributes such as timbre and speaking style, is crucial in speech generation. However, existing methods rely heavily on annotated data, and struggle with effectively disentangling timbre and style, leading to challenges in achieving controllable generation, especially in zero-shot scenarios. To address these issues, we propose Vevo, a versatile zero-shot voice imitation framework with controllable timbre and style. Vevo operates in two core stages: (1) Content-Style Modeling: Given either text or speech's content tokens as input, we utilize an autoregressive transformer to generate the content-style tokens, which is prompted by a style reference; (2) Acoustic Modeling: Given the content-style tokens as input, we employ a flow-matching transformer to produce acoustic representations, which is prompted by a timbre reference. To obtain the content and content-style tokens of speech, we design a fully self-supervised approach that progressively decouples the timbre, style, and linguistic content of speech. Specifically, we adopt VQ-VAE as the tokenizer for the continuous hidden features of HuBERT. We treat the vocabulary size of the VQ-VAE codebook as the information bottleneck, and adjust it carefully to obtain the disentangled speech representations. Solely self-supervised trained on 60K hours of audiobook speech data, without any fine-tuning on style-specific corpora, Vevo matches or surpasses existing methods in accent and emotion conversion tasks. Additionally, Vevo's effectiveness in zero-shot voice conversion and text-to-speech tasks further demonstrates its strong generalization and versatility. Repaint123: Fast and High-quality One Image to 3D Generation with Progressive Controllable 2D Repainting

Recent one image to 3D generation methods commonly adopt Score Distillation Sampling (SDS). Despite the impressive results, there are multiple deficiencies including multi-view inconsistency, over-saturated and over-smoothed textures, as well as the slow generation speed. To address these deficiencies, we present Repaint123 to alleviate multi-view bias as well as texture degradation and speed up the generation process. The core idea is to combine the powerful image generation capability of the 2D diffusion model and the texture alignment ability of the repainting strategy for generating high-quality multi-view images with consistency. We further propose visibility-aware adaptive repainting strength for overlap regions to enhance the generated image quality in the repainting process. The generated high-quality and multi-view consistent images enable the use of simple Mean Square Error (MSE) loss for fast 3D content generation. We conduct extensive experiments and show that our method has a superior ability to generate high-quality 3D content with multi-view consistency and fine textures in 2 minutes from scratch. Next Patch Prediction for Autoregressive Visual Generation

Autoregressive models, built based on the Next Token Prediction (NTP) paradigm, show great potential in developing a unified framework that integrates both language and vision tasks. Pioneering works introduce NTP to autoregressive visual generation tasks. In this work, we rethink the NTP for autoregressive image generation and extend it to a novel Next Patch Prediction (NPP) paradigm. Our key idea is to group and aggregate image tokens into patch tokens with higher information density. By using patch tokens as a more compact input sequence, the autoregressive model is trained to predict the next patch, significantly reducing computational costs. To further exploit the natural hierarchical structure of image data, we propose a multi-scale coarse-to-fine patch grouping strategy. With this strategy, the training process begins with a large patch size and ends with vanilla NTP where the patch size is 1$\times$1, thus maintaining the original inference process without modifications. Extensive experiments across a diverse range of model sizes demonstrate that NPP could reduce the training cost to around 0.6 times while improving image generation quality by up to 1.0 FID score on the ImageNet 256x256 generation benchmark. Notably, our method retains the original autoregressive model architecture without introducing additional trainable parameters or specifically designing a custom image tokenizer, offering a flexible and plug-and-play solution for enhancing autoregressive visual generation.

AE-NeRF: Augmenting Event-Based Neural Radiance Fields for Non-ideal Conditions and Larger Scene

Compared to frame-based methods, computational neuromorphic imaging using event cameras offers significant advantages, such as minimal motion blur, enhanced temporal resolution, and high dynamic range. The multi-view consistency of Neural Radiance Fields combined with the unique benefits of event cameras, has spurred recent research into reconstructing NeRF from data captured by moving event cameras. While showing impressive performance, existing methods rely on ideal conditions with the availability of uniform and high-quality event sequences and accurate camera poses, and mainly focus on the object level reconstruction, thus limiting their practical applications. In this work, we propose AE-NeRF to address the challenges of learning event-based NeRF from non-ideal conditions, including non-uniform event sequences, noisy poses, and various scales of scenes. Our method exploits the density of event streams and jointly learn a pose correction module with an event-based NeRF (e-NeRF) framework for robust 3D reconstruction from inaccurate camera poses. To generalize to larger scenes, we propose hierarchical event distillation with a proposal e-NeRF network and a vanilla e-NeRF network to resample and refine the reconstruction process. We further propose an event reconstruction loss and a temporal loss to improve the view consistency of the reconstructed scene. We established a comprehensive benchmark that includes large-scale scenes to simulate practical non-ideal conditions, incorporating both synthetic and challenging real-world event datasets. The experimental results show that our method achieves a new state-of-the-art in event-based 3D reconstruction.

Envision3D: One Image to 3D with Anchor Views Interpolation

We present Envision3D, a novel method for efficiently generating high-quality 3D content from a single image. Recent methods that extract 3D content from multi-view images generated by diffusion models show great potential. However, it is still challenging for diffusion models to generate dense multi-view consistent images, which is crucial for the quality of 3D content extraction. To address this issue, we propose a novel cascade diffusion framework, which decomposes the challenging dense views generation task into two tractable stages, namely anchor views generation and anchor views interpolation. In the first stage, we train the image diffusion model to generate global consistent anchor views conditioning on image-normal pairs. Subsequently, leveraging our video diffusion model fine-tuned on consecutive multi-view images, we conduct interpolation on the previous anchor views to generate extra dense views. This framework yields dense, multi-view consistent images, providing comprehensive 3D information. To further enhance the overall generation quality, we introduce a coarse-to-fine sampling strategy for the reconstruction algorithm to robustly extract textured meshes from the generated dense images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method is capable of generating high-quality 3D content in terms of texture and geometry, surpassing previous image-to-3D baseline methods.

AnyDexGrasp: General Dexterous Grasping for Different Hands with Human-level Learning Efficiency

We introduce an efficient approach for learning dexterous grasping with minimal data, advancing robotic manipulation capabilities across different robotic hands. Unlike traditional methods that require millions of grasp labels for each robotic hand, our method achieves high performance with human-level learning efficiency: only hundreds of grasp attempts on 40 training objects. The approach separates the grasping process into two stages: first, a universal model maps scene geometry to intermediate contact-centric grasp representations, independent of specific robotic hands. Next, a unique grasp decision model is trained for each robotic hand through real-world trial and error, translating these representations into final grasp poses. Our results show a grasp success rate of 75-95\% across three different robotic hands in real-world cluttered environments with over 150 novel objects, improving to 80-98\% with increased training objects. This adaptable method demonstrates promising applications for humanoid robots, prosthetics, and other domains requiring robust, versatile robotic manipulation.

VoiceShop: A Unified Speech-to-Speech Framework for Identity-Preserving Zero-Shot Voice Editing

We present VoiceShop, a novel speech-to-speech framework that can modify multiple attributes of speech, such as age, gender, accent, and speech style, in a single forward pass while preserving the input speaker's timbre. Previous works have been constrained to specialized models that can only edit these attributes individually and suffer from the following pitfalls: the magnitude of the conversion effect is weak, there is no zero-shot capability for out-of-distribution speakers, or the synthesized outputs exhibit undesirable timbre leakage. Our work proposes solutions for each of these issues in a simple modular framework based on a conditional diffusion backbone model with optional normalizing flow-based and sequence-to-sequence speaker attribute-editing modules, whose components can be combined or removed during inference to meet a wide array of tasks without additional model finetuning. LLMBind: A Unified Modality-Task Integration Framework

In the multi-modal domain, the dependence of various models on specific input formats leads to user confusion and hinders progress. To address this challenge, we introduce \textbf{LLMBind}, a novel framework designed to unify a diverse array of multi-modal tasks. By harnessing a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) Large Language Model (LLM), LLMBind processes multi-modal inputs and generates task-specific tokens, enabling the invocation of corresponding models to accomplish tasks. This unique approach empowers LLMBind to interpret inputs and generate outputs across various modalities, including image, text, video, and audio. Furthermore, we have constructed an interaction dataset comprising 400k instructions, which unlocks the ability of LLMBind for interactive visual generation and editing tasks. Extensive experimentation demonstrates that LLMBind achieves very superior performance across diverse tasks and outperforms existing models in user evaluations conducted in real-world scenarios. Moreover, the adaptability of LLMBind allows for seamless integration with the latest models and extension to new modality tasks, highlighting its potential to serve as a unified AI agent for modeling universal modalities.

NeuralGS: Bridging Neural Fields and 3D Gaussian Splatting for Compact 3D Representations

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) achieves impressive quality and rendering speed, but with millions of 3D Gaussians and significant storage and transmission costs. In this paper, we aim to develop a simple yet effective method called NeuralGS that compresses the original 3DGS into a compact representation. Our observation is that neural fields like NeRF can represent complex 3D scenes with Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural networks using only a few megabytes. Thus, NeuralGS effectively adopts the neural field representation to encode the attributes of 3D Gaussians with MLPs, only requiring a small storage size even for a large-scale scene. To achieve this, we adopt a clustering strategy and fit the Gaussians within each cluster using different tiny MLPs, based on importance scores of Gaussians as fitting weights. We experiment on multiple datasets, achieving a 91-times average model size reduction without harming the visual quality.

Multi-modal Vision Pre-training for Medical Image Analysis

Self-supervised learning has greatly facilitated medical image analysis by suppressing the training data requirement for real-world applications. Current paradigms predominantly rely on self-supervision within uni-modal image data, thereby neglecting the inter-modal correlations essential for effective learning of cross-modal image representations. This limitation is particularly significant for naturally grouped multi-modal data, e.g., multi-parametric MRI scans for a patient undergoing various functional imaging protocols in the same study. To bridge this gap, we conduct a novel multi-modal image pre-training with three proxy tasks to facilitate the learning of cross-modality representations and correlations using multi-modal brain MRI scans (over 2.4 million images in 16,022 scans of 3,755 patients), i.e., cross-modal image reconstruction, modality-aware contrastive learning, and modality template distillation. To demonstrate the generalizability of our pre-trained model, we conduct extensive experiments on various benchmarks with ten downstream tasks. The superior performance of our method is reported in comparison to state-of-the-art pre-training methods, with Dice Score improvement of 0.28\%-14.47\% across six segmentation benchmarks and a consistent accuracy boost of 0.65\%-18.07\% in four individual image classification tasks.

GS2E: Gaussian Splatting is an Effective Data Generator for Event Stream Generation

We introduce GS2E (Gaussian Splatting to Event), a large-scale synthetic event dataset for high-fidelity event vision tasks, captured from real-world sparse multi-view RGB images. Existing event datasets are often synthesized from dense RGB videos, which typically lack viewpoint diversity and geometric consistency, or depend on expensive, difficult-to-scale hardware setups. GS2E overcomes these limitations by first reconstructing photorealistic static scenes using 3D Gaussian Splatting, and subsequently employing a novel, physically-informed event simulation pipeline. This pipeline generally integrates adaptive trajectory interpolation with physically-consistent event contrast threshold modeling. Such an approach yields temporally dense and geometrically consistent event streams under diverse motion and lighting conditions, while ensuring strong alignment with underlying scene structures. Experimental results on event-based 3D reconstruction demonstrate GS2E's superior generalization capabilities and its practical value as a benchmark for advancing event vision research.

ShareGPT4Video: Improving Video Understanding and Generation with Better Captions

We present the ShareGPT4Video series, aiming to facilitate the video understanding of large video-language models (LVLMs) and the video generation of text-to-video models (T2VMs) via dense and precise captions. The series comprises: 1) ShareGPT4Video, 40K GPT4V annotated dense captions of videos with various lengths and sources, developed through carefully designed data filtering and annotating strategy. 2) ShareCaptioner-Video, an efficient and capable captioning model for arbitrary videos, with 4.8M high-quality aesthetic videos annotated by it. 3) ShareGPT4Video-8B, a simple yet superb LVLM that reached SOTA performance on three advancing video benchmarks. To achieve this, taking aside the non-scalable costly human annotators, we find using GPT4V to caption video with a naive multi-frame or frame-concatenation input strategy leads to less detailed and sometimes temporal-confused results. We argue the challenge of designing a high-quality video captioning strategy lies in three aspects: 1) Inter-frame precise temporal change understanding. 2) Intra-frame detailed content description. 3) Frame-number scalability for arbitrary-length videos. To this end, we meticulously designed a differential video captioning strategy, which is stable, scalable, and efficient for generating captions for videos with arbitrary resolution, aspect ratios, and length. Based on it, we construct ShareGPT4Video, which contains 40K high-quality videos spanning a wide range of categories, and the resulting captions encompass rich world knowledge, object attributes, camera movements, and crucially, detailed and precise temporal descriptions of events. FAST-RIR: Fast neural diffuse room impulse response generator

We present a neural-network-based fast diffuse room impulse response generator (FAST-RIR) for generating room impulse responses (RIRs) for a given acoustic environment. Our FAST-RIR takes rectangular room dimensions, listener and speaker positions, and reverberation time as inputs and generates specular and diffuse reflections for a given acoustic environment. Our FAST-RIR is capable of generating RIRs for a given input reverberation time with an average error of 0.02s. We evaluate our generated RIRs in automatic speech recognition (ASR) applications using Google Speech API, Microsoft Speech API, and Kaldi tools. We show that our proposed FAST-RIR with batch size 1 is 400 times faster than a state-of-the-art diffuse acoustic simulator (DAS) on a CPU and gives similar performance to DAS in ASR experiments. Our FAST-RIR is 12 times faster than an existing GPU-based RIR generator (gpuRIR). We show that our FAST-RIR outperforms gpuRIR by 2.5% in an AMI far-field ASR benchmark.

Improving Reverberant Speech Separation with Multi-stage Training and Curriculum Learning

We present a novel approach that improves the performance of reverberant speech separation. Our approach is based on an accurate geometric acoustic simulator (GAS) which generates realistic room impulse responses (RIRs) by modeling both specular and diffuse reflections. We also propose three training methods - pre-training, multi-stage training and curriculum learning that significantly improve separation quality in the presence of reverberation. We also demonstrate that mixing the synthetic RIRs with a small number of real RIRs during training enhances separation performance. We evaluate our approach on reverberant mixtures generated from real, recorded data (in several different room configurations) from the VOiCES dataset. Our novel approach (curriculum learning+pre-training+multi-stage training) results in a significant relative improvement over prior techniques based on image source method (ISM).

Online Self-Attentive Gated RNNs for Real-Time Speaker Separation

Deep neural networks have recently shown great success in the task of blind source separation, both under monaural and binaural settings. Although these methods were shown to produce high-quality separations, they were mainly applied under offline settings, in which the model has access to the full input signal while separating the signal. In this study, we convert a non-causal state-of-the-art separation model into a causal and real-time model and evaluate its performance under both online and offline settings. We compare the performance of the proposed model to several baseline methods under anechoic, noisy, and noisy-reverberant recording conditions while exploring both monaural and binaural inputs and outputs. Our findings shed light on the relative difference between causal and non-causal models when performing separation. Our stateful implementation for online separation leads to a minor drop in performance compared to the offline model; 0.8dB for monaural inputs and 0.3dB for binaural inputs while reaching a real-time factor of 0.65. Point-based Acoustic Scattering for Interactive Sound Propagation via Surface Encoding

We present a novel geometric deep learning method to compute the acoustic scattering properties of geometric objects. Our learning algorithm uses a point cloud representation of objects to compute the scattering properties and integrates them with ray tracing for interactive sound propagation in dynamic scenes. We use discrete Laplacian-based surface encoders and approximate the neighborhood of each point using a shared multi-layer perceptron. We show that our formulation is permutation invariant and present a neural network that computes the scattering function using spherical harmonics. Our approach can handle objects with arbitrary topologies and deforming models, and takes less than 1ms per object on a commodity GPU. We have analyzed the accuracy and perform validation on thousands of unseen 3D objects and highlight the benefits over other point-based geometric deep learning methods. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first real-time learning algorithm that can approximate the acoustic scattering properties of arbitrary objects with high accuracy.

Scene-aware Far-field Automatic Speech Recognition

We propose a novel method for generating scene-aware training data for far-field automatic speech recognition. We use a deep learning-based estimator to non-intrusively compute the sub-band reverberation time of an environment from its speech samples. We model the acoustic characteristics of a scene with its reverberation time and represent it using a multivariate Gaussian distribution. We use this distribution to select acoustic impulse responses from a large real-world dataset for augmenting speech data. The speech recognition system trained on our scene-aware data consistently outperforms the system trained using many more random acoustic impulse responses on the REVERB and the AMI far-field benchmarks. In practice, we obtain 2.64% absolute improvement in word error rate compared with using training data of the same size with uniformly distributed reverberation times.

TS-RIR: Translated synthetic room impulse responses for speech augmentation

We present a method for improving the quality of synthetic room impulse responses for far-field speech recognition. We bridge the gap between the fidelity of synthetic room impulse responses (RIRs) and the real room impulse responses using our novel, TS-RIRGAN architecture. Given a synthetic RIR in the form of raw audio, we use TS-RIRGAN to translate it into a real RIR. We also perform real-world sub-band room equalization on the translated synthetic RIR. Our overall approach improves the quality of synthetic RIRs by compensating low-frequency wave effects, similar to those in real RIRs. We evaluate the performance of improved synthetic RIRs on a far-field speech dataset augmented by convolving the LibriSpeech clean speech dataset [1] with RIRs and adding background noise. We show that far-field speech augmented using our improved synthetic RIRs reduces the word error rate by up to 19.9% in Kaldi far-field automatic speech recognition benchmark [2].

IR-GAN: Room Impulse Response Generator for Far-field Speech Recognition

We present a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) based room impulse response generator (IR-GAN) for generating realistic synthetic room impulse responses (RIRs). IR-GAN extracts acoustic parameters from captured real-world RIRs and uses these parameters to generate new synthetic RIRs. We use these generated synthetic RIRs to improve far-field automatic speech recognition in new environments that are different from the ones used in training datasets. In particular, we augment the far-field speech training set by convolving our synthesized RIRs with a clean LibriSpeech dataset. We evaluate the quality of our synthetic RIRs on the real-world LibriSpeech test set created using real-world RIRs from the BUT ReverbDB and AIR datasets. Our IR-GAN reports up to an 8.95% lower error rate than Geometric Acoustic Simulator (GAS) in far-field speech recognition benchmarks. We further improve the performance when we combine our synthetic RIRs with synthetic impulse responses generated using GAS. This combination can reduce the word error rate by up to 14.3% in far-field speech recognition benchmarks.

Learning Acoustic Scattering Fields for Dynamic Interactive Sound Propagation

We present a novel hybrid sound propagation algorithm for interactive applications. Our approach is designed for dynamic scenes and uses a neural network-based learned scattered field representation along with ray tracing to generate specular, diffuse, diffraction, and occlusion effects efficiently. We use geometric deep learning to approximate the acoustic scattering field using spherical harmonics. We use a large 3D dataset for training, and compare its accuracy with the ground truth generated using an accurate wave-based solver. The additional overhead of computing the learned scattered field at runtime is small and we demonstrate its interactive performance by generating plausible sound effects in dynamic scenes with diffraction and occlusion effects. We demonstrate the perceptual benefits of our approach based on an audio-visual user study.

Synergistic Learning of Lung Lobe Segmentation and Hierarchical Multi-Instance Classification for Automated Severity Assessment of COVID-19 in CT Images

Understanding chest CT imaging of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) will help detect infections early and assess the disease progression. Especially, automated severity assessment of COVID-19 in CT images plays an essential role in identifying cases that are in great need of intensive clinical care. However, it is often challenging to accurately assess the severity of this disease in CT images, due to variable infection regions in the lungs, similar imaging biomarkers, and large inter-case variations. To this end, we propose a synergistic learning framework for automated severity assessment of COVID-19 in 3D CT images, by jointly performing lung lobe segmentation and multi-instance classification. Considering that only a few infection regions in a CT image are related to the severity assessment, we first represent each input image by a bag that contains a set of 2D image patches (with each cropped from a specific slice). A multi-task multi-instance deep network (called M$^2$UNet) is then developed to assess the severity of COVID-19 patients and also segment the lung lobe simultaneously. Our M$^2$UNet consists of a patch-level encoder, a segmentation sub-network for lung lobe segmentation, and a classification sub-network for severity assessment (with a unique hierarchical multi-instance learning strategy). Here, the context information provided by segmentation can be implicitly employed to improve the performance of severity assessment. Extensive experiments were performed on a real COVID-19 CT image dataset consisting of 666 chest CT images, with results suggesting the effectiveness of our proposed method compared to several state-of-the-art methods.

Review of Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Imaging Data Acquisition, Segmentation and Diagnosis for COVID-19

Medical imaging such as X-ray and computed tomography (CT) plays an essential role in the global fight against COVID-19, whereas the recently emerging artificial intelligence (AI) technologies further strengthen the power of the imaging tools and help medical specialists. We hereby review the rapid responses in the community of medical imaging (empowered by AI) toward COVID-19. For example, AI-empowered image acquisition can significantly help automate the scanning procedure and also reshape the workflow with minimal contact to patients, providing the best protection to the imaging technicians. Also, AI can improve work efficiency by accurate delination of infections in X-ray and CT images, facilitating subsequent quantification. Moreover, the computer-aided platforms help radiologists make clinical decisions, i.e., for disease diagnosis, tracking, and prognosis. In this review paper, we thus cover the entire pipeline of medical imaging and analysis techniques involved with COVID-19, including image acquisition, segmentation, diagnosis, and follow-up. We particularly focus on the integration of AI with X-ray and CT, both of which are widely used in the frontline hospitals, in order to depict the latest progress of medical imaging and radiology fighting against COVID-19.

Severity Assessment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Using Quantitative Features from Chest CT Images

Background: Chest computed tomography (CT) is recognized as an important tool for COVID-19 severity assessment. As the number of affected patients increase rapidly, manual severity assessment becomes a labor-intensive task, and may lead to delayed treatment. Purpose: Using machine learning method to realize automatic severity assessment (non-severe or severe) of COVID-19 based on chest CT images, and to explore the severity-related features from the resulting assessment model. Materials and Method: Chest CT images of 176 patients (age 45.3$\pm$16.5 years, 96 male and 80 female) with confirmed COVID-19 are used, from which 63 quantitative features, e.g., the infection volume/ratio of the whole lung and the volume of ground-glass opacity (GGO) regions, are calculated. A random forest (RF) model is trained to assess the severity (non-severe or severe) based on quantitative features. Importance of each quantitative feature, which reflects the correlation to the severity of COVID-19, is calculated from the RF model. Results: Using three-fold cross validation, the RF model shows promising results, i.e., 0.933 of true positive rate, 0.745 of true negative rate, 0.875 of accuracy, and 0.91 of area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). The resulting importance of quantitative features shows that the volume and its ratio (with respect to the whole lung volume) of ground glass opacity (GGO) regions are highly related to the severity of COVID-19, and the quantitative features calculated from the right lung are more related to the severity assessment than those of the left lung. Conclusion: The RF based model can achieve automatic severity assessment (non-severe or severe) of COVID-19 infection, and the performance is promising. Several quantitative features, which have the potential to reflect the severity of COVID-19, were revealed.

Scene-Aware Audio Rendering via Deep Acoustic Analysis

We present a new method to capture the acoustic characteristics of real-world rooms using commodity devices, and use the captured characteristics to generate similar sounding sources with virtual models. Given the captured audio and an approximate geometric model of a real-world room, we present a novel learning-based method to estimate its acoustic material properties. Our approach is based on deep neural networks that estimate the reverberation time and equalization of the room from recorded audio. These estimates are used to compute material properties related to room reverberation using a novel material optimization objective. We use the estimated acoustic material characteristics for audio rendering using interactive geometric sound propagation and highlight the performance on many real-world scenarios. We also perform a user study to evaluate the perceptual similarity between the recorded sounds and our rendered audio.

Low-frequency Compensated Synthetic Impulse Responses for Improved Far-field Speech Recognition

We propose a method for generating low-frequency compensated synthetic impulse responses that improve the performance of far-field speech recognition systems trained on artificially augmented datasets. We design linear-phase filters that adapt the simulated impulse responses to equalization distributions corresponding to real-world captured impulse responses. Our filtered synthetic impulse responses are then used to augment clean speech data from LibriSpeech dataset [1]. We evaluate the performance of our method on the real-world LibriSpeech test set. In practice, our low-frequency compensated synthetic dataset can reduce the word-error-rate by up to 8.8% for far-field speech recognition.

Improving Reverberant Speech Training Using Diffuse Acoustic Simulation

We present an efficient and realistic geometric acoustic simulation approach for generating and augmenting training data in speech-related machine learning tasks. Our physically-based acoustic simulation method is capable of modeling occlusion, specular and diffuse reflections of sound in complicated acoustic environments, whereas the classical image method can only model specular reflections in simple room settings. We show that by using our synthetic training data, the same neural networks gain significant performance improvement on real test sets in far-field speech recognition by 1.58% and keyword spotting by 21%, without fine-tuning using real impulse responses.

Regression and Classification for Direction-of-Arrival Estimation with Convolutional Recurrent Neural Networks

We present a novel learning-based approach to estimate the direction-of-arrival (DOA) of a sound source using a convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN) trained via regression on synthetic data and Cartesian labels. We also describe an improved method to generate synthetic data to train the neural network using state-of-the-art sound propagation algorithms that model specular as well as diffuse reflections of sound. We compare our model against three other CRNNs trained using different formulations of the same problem: classification on categorical labels, and regression on spherical coordinate labels. In practice, our model achieves up to 43% decrease in angular error over prior methods. The use of diffuse reflection results in 34% and 41% reduction in angular prediction errors on LOCATA and SOFA datasets, respectively, over prior methods based on image-source methods. Our method results in an additional 3% error reduction over prior schemes that use classification based networks, and we use 36% fewer network parameters.

Receiver Placement for Speech Enhancement using Sound Propagation Optimization

A common problem in acoustic design is the placement of speakers or receivers for public address systems, telecommunications, and home smart speakers or digital personal assistants. We present a novel algorithm to automatically place a speaker or receiver in a room to improve the intelligibility of spoken phrases in a design. Our technique uses a sound propagation optimization formulation to maximize the Speech Transmission Index (STI) by computing an optimal location of the sound receiver. We use an efficient and accurate hybrid sound propagation technique on complex 3D models to compute the Room Impulse Responses (RIR) and evaluate their impact on the STI. The overall algorithm computes a globally optimal position of the receiver that reduces the effects of reverberation and noise over many source positions. We evaluate our algorithm on various indoor 3D models, all showing significant improvement in STI, based on accurate sound propagation.
