Ground Plane Matters: Picking Up Ground Plane Prior in Monocular 3D Object DetectionFan Yang, Xinhao Xu, Hui Chen et al.
The ground plane prior is a very informative geometry clue in monocular 3D object detection (M3OD). However, it has been neglected by most mainstream methods. In this paper, we identify two key factors that limit the applicability of ground plane prior: the projection point localization issue and the ground plane tilt issue. To pick up the ground plane prior for M3OD, we propose a Ground Plane Enhanced Network (GPENet) which resolves both issues at one go. For the projection point localization issue, instead of using the bottom vertices or bottom center of the 3D bounding box (BBox), we leverage the object's ground contact points, which are explicit pixels in the image and easy for the neural network to detect. For the ground plane tilt problem, our GPENet estimates the horizon line in the image and derives a novel mathematical expression to accurately estimate the ground plane equation. An unsupervised vertical edge mining algorithm is also proposed to address the occlusion of the horizon line. Furthermore, we design a novel 3D bounding box deduction method based on a dynamic back projection algorithm, which could take advantage of the accurate contact points and the ground plane equation. Additionally, using only M3OD labels, contact point and horizon line pseudo labels can be easily generated with NO extra data collection and label annotation cost. Extensive experiments on the popular KITTI benchmark show that our GPENet can outperform other methods and achieve state-of-the-art performance, well demonstrating the effectiveness and the superiority of the proposed approach. Moreover, our GPENet works better than other methods in cross-dataset evaluation on the nuScenes dataset. Our code and models will be published.

Probabilistic Tree Inference Enabled by FDSOI Ferroelectric FETsPengyu Ren, Xingtian Wang, Boyang Cheng et al.
Artificial intelligence applications in autonomous driving, medical diagnostics, and financial systems increasingly demand machine learning models that can provide robust uncertainty quantification, interpretability, and noise resilience. Bayesian decision trees (BDTs) are attractive for these tasks because they combine probabilistic reasoning, interpretable decision-making, and robustness to noise. However, existing hardware implementations of BDTs based on CPUs and GPUs are limited by memory bottlenecks and irregular processing patterns, while multi-platform solutions exploiting analog content-addressable memory (ACAM) and Gaussian random number generators (GRNGs) introduce integration complexity and energy overheads. Here we report a monolithic FDSOI-FeFET hardware platform that natively supports both ACAM and GRNG functionalities. The ferroelectric polarization of FeFETs enables compact, energy-efficient multi-bit storage for ACAM, and band-to-band tunneling in the gate-to-drain overlap region and subsequent hole storage in the floating body provides a high-quality entropy source for GRNG. System-level evaluations demonstrate that the proposed architecture provides robust uncertainty estimation, interpretability, and noise tolerance with high energy efficiency. Under both dataset noise and device variations, it achieves over 40% higher classification accuracy on MNIST compared to conventional decision trees. Moreover, it delivers more than two orders of magnitude speedup over CPU and GPU baselines and over four orders of magnitude improvement in energy efficiency, making it a scalable solution for deploying BDTs in resource-constrained and safety-critical environments.

Lightweight True In-Pixel Encryption with FeFET Enabled Pixel Design for Secure ImagingMd Rahatul Islam Udoy, Diego Ferrer, Wantong Li et al.
Ensuring end-to-end security in image sensors has become essential as visual data can be exposed through multiple stages of the imaging pipeline. Advanced protection requires encryption to occur before pixel values appear on any readout lines. This work introduces a secure pixel sensor (SecurePix), a compact CMOS-compatible pixel architecture that performs true in-pixel encryption using a symmetric key realized through programmable, non-volatile multidomain polarization states of a ferroelectric field-effect transistor. The pixel and array operations are designed and simulated in HSPICE, while a 45 nm CMOS process design kit is used for layout drawing. The resulting layout confirms a pixel pitch of 2.33 x 3.01 um^2. Each pixel's non-volatile programming level defines its analog transfer characteristic, enabling the photodiode voltage to be converted into an encrypted analog output within the pixel. Full-image evaluation shows that ResNet-18 recognition accuracy drops from 99.29 percent to 9.58 percent on MNIST and from 91.33 percent to 6.98 percent on CIFAR-10 after encryption, indicating strong resistance to neural-network-based inference. Lookup-table-based inverse mapping enables recovery for authorized receivers using the same symmetric key. Based on HSPICE simulation, the SecurePix achieves a per-pixel programming power-delay product of 17 uW us and a per-pixel sensing power-delay product of 1.25 uW us, demonstrating low-overhead hardware-level protection.

CQ-CiM: Hardware-Aware Embedding Shaping for Robust CiM-Based RetrievalXinzhao Li, Alptekin Vardar, Franz Müller et al.
Deploying Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) on edge devices is in high demand, but is hindered by the latency of massive data movement and computation on traditional architectures. Compute-in-Memory (CiM) architectures address this bottleneck by performing vector search directly within their crossbar structure. However, CiM's adoption for RAG is limited by a fundamental ``representation gap,'' as high-precision, high-dimension embeddings are incompatible with CiM's low-precision, low-dimension array constraints. This gap is compounded by the diversity of CiM implementations (e.g., SRAM, ReRAM, FeFET), each with unique designs (e.g., 2-bit cells, 512x512 arrays). Consequently, RAG data must be naively reshaped to fit each target implementation. Current data shaping methods handle dimension and precision disjointly, which degrades data fidelity. This not only negates the advantages of CiM for RAG but also confuses hardware designers, making it unclear if a failure is due to the circuit design or the degraded input data. As a result, CiM adoption remains limited. In this paper, we introduce CQ-CiM, a unified, hardware-aware data shaping framework that jointly learns Compression and Quantization to produce CiM-compatible low-bit embeddings for diverse CiM designs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to shape data for comprehensive CiM usage on RAG.

A Unified Memory Perspective for Probabilistic Trustworthy AIXueji Zhao, Likai Pei, Jianbo Liu et al.
Trustworthy artificial intelligence increasingly relies on probabilistic computation to achieve robustness, interpretability, security and privacy. In practical systems, such workloads interleave deterministic data access with repeated stochastic sampling across models, data paths and system functions, shifting performance bottlenecks from arithmetic units to memory systems that must deliver both data and randomness. Here we present a unified data-access perspective in which deterministic access is treated as a limiting case of stochastic sampling, enabling both modes to be analyzed within a common framework. This view reveals that increasing stochastic demand reduces effective data-access efficiency and can drive systems into entropy-limited operation. Based on this insight, we define memory-level evaluation criteria, including unified operation, distribution programmability, efficiency, robustness to hardware non-idealities and parallel compatibility. Using these criteria, we analyze limitations of conventional architectures and examine emerging probabilistic compute-in-memory approaches that integrate sampling with memory access, outlining pathways toward scalable hardware for trustworthy AI.

DynamicTrack: Advancing Gigapixel Tracking in Crowded ScenesYunqi Zhao, Yuchen Guo, Zheng Cao et al.
Tracking in gigapixel scenarios holds numerous potential applications in video surveillance and pedestrian analysis. Existing algorithms attempt to perform tracking in crowded scenes by utilizing multiple cameras or group relationships. However, their performance significantly degrades when confronted with complex interaction and occlusion inherent in gigapixel images. In this paper, we introduce DynamicTrack, a dynamic tracking framework designed to address gigapixel tracking challenges in crowded scenes. In particular, we propose a dynamic detector that utilizes contrastive learning to jointly detect the head and body of pedestrians. Building upon this, we design a dynamic association algorithm that effectively utilizes head and body information for matching purposes. Extensive experiments show that our tracker achieves state-of-the-art performance on widely used tracking benchmarks specifically designed for gigapixel crowded scenes.

Robust Implementation of Retrieval-Augmented Generation on Edge-based Computing-in-Memory ArchitecturesRuiyang Qin, Zheyu Yan, Dewen Zeng et al.
Large Language Models (LLMs) deployed on edge devices learn through fine-tuning and updating a certain portion of their parameters. Although such learning methods can be optimized to reduce resource utilization, the overall required resources remain a heavy burden on edge devices. Instead, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), a resource-efficient LLM learning method, can improve the quality of the LLM-generated content without updating model parameters. However, the RAG-based LLM may involve repetitive searches on the profile data in every user-LLM interaction. This search can lead to significant latency along with the accumulation of user data. Conventional efforts to decrease latency result in restricting the size of saved user data, thus reducing the scalability of RAG as user data continuously grows. It remains an open question: how to free RAG from the constraints of latency and scalability on edge devices? In this paper, we propose a novel framework to accelerate RAG via Computing-in-Memory (CiM) architectures. It accelerates matrix multiplications by performing in-situ computation inside the memory while avoiding the expensive data transfer between the computing unit and memory. Our framework, Robust CiM-backed RAG (RoCR), utilizing a novel contrastive learning-based training method and noise-aware training, can enable RAG to efficiently search profile data with CiM. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work utilizing CiM to accelerate RAG.

FeBiM: Efficient and Compact Bayesian Inference Engine Empowered with Ferroelectric In-Memory ComputingChao Li, Zhicheng Xu, Bo Wen et al.
In scenarios with limited training data or where explainability is crucial, conventional neural network-based machine learning models often face challenges. In contrast, Bayesian inference-based algorithms excel in providing interpretable predictions and reliable uncertainty estimation in these scenarios. While many state-of-the-art in-memory computing (IMC) architectures leverage emerging non-volatile memory (NVM) technologies to offer unparalleled computing capacity and energy efficiency for neural network workloads, their application in Bayesian inference is limited. This is because the core operations in Bayesian inference differ significantly from the multiplication-accumulation (MAC) operations common in neural networks, rendering them generally unsuitable for direct implementation in most existing IMC designs. In this paper, we propose FeBiM, an efficient and compact Bayesian inference engine powered by multi-bit ferroelectric field-effect transistor (FeFET)-based IMC. FeBiM effectively encodes the trained probabilities of a Bayesian inference model within a compact FeFET-based crossbar. It maps quantized logarithmic probabilities to discrete FeFET states. As a result, the accumulated outputs of the crossbar naturally represent the posterior probabilities, i.e., the Bayesian inference model's output given a set of observations. This approach enables efficient in-memory Bayesian inference without the need for additional calculation circuitry. As the first FeFET-based in-memory Bayesian inference engine, FeBiM achieves an impressive storage density of 26.32 Mb/mm$^{2}$ and a computing efficiency of 581.40 TOPS/W in a representative Bayesian classification task. These results demonstrate 10.7$\times$/43.4$\times$ improvement in compactness/efficiency compared to the state-of-the-art hardware implementation of Bayesian inference.

Trilinear Compute-in-Memory Architecture for Energy-Efficient Transformer AccelerationMd Zesun Ahmed Mia, Jiahui Duan, Kai Ni et al.
Self-attention in Transformers generates dynamic operands that force conventional Compute-in-Memory (CIM) accelerators into costly non-volatile memory (NVM) reprogramming cycles, degrading throughput and stressing device endurance. Existing solutions either reduce but retain NVM writes through matrix decomposition or sparsity, or move attention computation to digital CMOS at the expense of NVM density. We present TrilinearCIM, a Double-Gate FeFET (DG-FeFET)-based architecture that uses back-gate modulation to realize a three-operand multiply-accumulate primitive for in-memory attention computation without dynamic ferroelectric reprogramming. Evaluated on BERT-base (GLUE) and ViT-base (ImageNet and CIFAR), TrilinearCIM outperforms conventional CIM on seven of nine GLUE tasks while achieving up to 46.6\% energy reduction and 20.4\% latency improvement over conventional FeFET CIM at 37.3\% area overhead. To our knowledge, this is the first architecture to perform complete Transformer attention computation exclusively in NVM cores without runtime reprogramming.

NVCiM-PT: An NVCiM-assisted Prompt Tuning Framework for Edge LLMsRuiyang Qin, Pengyu Ren, Zheyu Yan et al.
Large Language Models (LLMs) deployed on edge devices, known as edge LLMs, need to continuously fine-tune their model parameters from user-generated data under limited resource constraints. However, most existing learning methods are not applicable for edge LLMs because of their reliance on high resources and low learning capacity. Prompt tuning (PT) has recently emerged as an effective fine-tuning method for edge LLMs by only modifying a small portion of LLM parameters, but it suffers from user domain shifts, resulting in repetitive training and losing resource efficiency. Conventional techniques to address domain shift issues often involve complex neural networks and sophisticated training, which are incompatible for PT for edge LLMs. Therefore, an open research question is how to address domain shift issues for edge LLMs with limited resources. In this paper, we propose a prompt tuning framework for edge LLMs, exploiting the benefits offered by non-volatile computing-in-memory (NVCiM) architectures. We introduce a novel NVCiM-assisted PT framework, where we narrow down the core operations to matrix-matrix multiplication, which can then be accelerated by performing in-situ computation on NVCiM. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work employing NVCiM to improve the edge LLM PT performance.

SWAG: Item Recommendations using Convolutions on Weighted GraphsAmit Pande, Kai Ni, Venkataramani Kini
Recent advancements in deep neural networks for graph-structured data have led to state-of-the-art performance on recommender system benchmarks. In this work, we present a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) algorithm SWAG (Sample Weight and AGgregate), which combines efficient random walks and graph convolutions on weighted graphs to generate embeddings for nodes (items) that incorporate both graph structure as well as node feature information such as item-descriptions and item-images. The three important SWAG operations that enable us to efficiently generate node embeddings based on graph structures are (a) Sampling of graph to homogeneous structure, (b) Weighting the sampling, walks and convolution operations, and (c) using AGgregation functions for generating convolutions. The work is an adaptation of graphSAGE over weighted graphs. We deploy SWAG at Target and train it on a graph of more than 500K products sold online with over 50M edges. Offline and online evaluations reveal the benefit of using a graph-based approach and the benefits of weighing to produce high quality embeddings and product recommendations.
